The swarm of small missiles encircled Charles completely, and the consequences were inevitable.
After a series of relentless explosions, Charles's body was reduced to fragments no larger than nuts.
Henry was captured alive, Tind was instantly slain, and Charles was blasted to smithereens. This was the lethal assassin duo harassing the Brown and Victoria Corporations. Against the trio of Xiao Feng, Rush, and Tu Gou, they appeared utterly feeble—utterly defeated within mere minutes.
From the rooftop opposite, Xiao Feng watched as Rush and Tu Gou subdued Henry and the others. He then holstered his sniper rifle and descended calmly. At that moment, Kelly and her group charged toward the rooftop. Spotting Xiao Feng carrying a flat case on his back, Kelly was visibly startled. "Xiao Feng! How are you here?"
Xiao Feng chuckled lightly. "I came because I missed you. Just wanted to see you."
"Don't joke around. Those shots just now—you fired them, didn't you?"
Xiao Feng nodded. "A few reckless fools tried to harm you. I took care of them."
Kelly and her security detail exchanged astonished glances toward the opposite building. Though their view was unclear, they could vaguely discern two figures on the other side.
Turning to Xiao Feng, Kelly said emotionally, "So it's true."
"Yes. They were the three who tried to assassinate Jason. It took me quite some effort to track them down and follow them here. And tonight, their target was you. If we hadn't intercepted them first, you might have been the one attacked. You had no protection whatsoever—if anything had happened, the consequences would have been disastrous."
Xiao Feng's words struck Kelly deeply. She knew he wasn't joking. Her heart swelled with surprise and gratitude. That he had traveled all the way from distant Black Whale City to this new capital to safeguard her once again moved her profoundly. She threw herself into Xiao Feng's embrace, nearly brought to tears.
Xiao Feng patted her slender back, smiling. "Alright, there are still so many people watching here. It's a bit embarrassing... You'd better send some men over to 'clean up'—because two of them died in rather unsightly ways."
Kelly laughed, releasing herself from his arms. She turned to her security team. "Go check it out."
"Yes, Miss," they replied and promptly descended.
Xiao Feng followed Kelly down the stairs, speaking into his earpiece, "Rush, you must retrieve that Black Angel for me."
"Got it. No need to remind me."
...
The night sky over Black Whale City was serene and luminous—undeniably the quietest night in recent days. The X Legion seemed acclimated to their surroundings, having strategically deployed defensive positions. Black Whale City now boasted its strongest military presence ever: missile units, cannon batteries, scores of fighter jets, armed helicopters, and even a newly formed armored brigade. The city's military might had become formidable.
Yet beneath this impregnable defense, before the cold storage imprisoning Hades, a sinister figure appeared. Around him lay a dozen or so X Legion soldiers, their faces ashen and contorted in agony—not as if slain by bullets, but suffocated, as though drowned.
The cloaked figure surveyed the fallen soldiers, then calmly entered the cold storage with hands clasped behind his back. His shadow resembled a grim reaper roaming the mortal realm.
But the "Reaper" Hades was trapped in a massive ice block, occupying nearly the entire storage chamber. At the stranger's arrival, Hades's eyes flickered.
The figure chuckled. "Hades, it's been days since you returned. I knew something had gone wrong. Never expected you'd be beaten so badly—your flesh all but stripped away, trapped in here. Truly a disgrace to the Seven Gods."
Hades was silent, his eyes darting.
"Alright, I'll set you free now." The figure approached the ice, pressing his hands against it. With a surge of power, the massive ice block instantly liquefied, flooding out of the warehouse.
Curiously, the water did not dampen the mysterious figure's cloak. Instead, the liquid circumvented him, flowing away as if repelled by an unseen force.
Hades collapsed onto the waterlogged floor, his metallic skeleton exposed, and oddly remarked, "Why did you take so long to save me?"
"Heh, besides me, no one else would bother. Given your reputation, who'd come to your rescue? If you hadn't saved my life before, I wouldn't have lifted a finger. You'd be frozen forever, left to your fate."
"Heh, let them try to kill me. Even you might not defeat them. We've both underestimated them."
"Hmph. Just a bunch of lowly mercenaries, hardly formidable. If I met them, I'd kill those arrogant psychics in an instant."
"I won't argue. When you face them, you'll understand. Don't say I didn't warn you—they're very strong. Especially that guy called Xiao Feng. Nobody can even tell what level psychic he is. His combat IQ is ridiculously high."
"Don't inflate others' reputations to belittle yourself. Enough about him. Let's clean up this mess first. Then I'll take you back to restore your body. If you return to headquarters like this, you'll be the laughingstock."
"Yeah, you're right... restoring my body is a priority."
The two left the warehouse, but at that moment, a patrol vehicle arrived. Several X Legion soldiers dismounted, rifles trained on them.
"Don't move! Hands up!"
"Raise your hands..."
The cloaked figure smirked coldly. Suddenly, the soldiers felt an intense dampness around their heads, as if enveloped by thick fog. The moisture rapidly condensed, forming a spherical glass-like water dome encasing each soldier's head.
They were stunned—never had they witnessed such a phenomenon. As suffocation closed in, all dropped their weapons, struggling desperately to free themselves from the watery prisons.
The spheres thickened, transforming into water bubbles, silencing their screams. Despite frantic efforts, escape was impossible. Within seconds, they collapsed, suffocated to death.
Hades sneered at the cloaked man. "They still dared to fight you? They clearly underestimate the might of Poseidon, God of the Seas."
"Hmph. A mere handful of insignificant pawns."
With that, the two vanished into the night.
Poseidon's formidable power had been captured on a surveillance camera. After the incident, the footage was delivered to Rice, who stared at the screen in stunned silence.
"Who is he?" Rice asked a member of the Mark team who delivered the video.
"Poseidon, one of the Seven Gods, and the closest to Hades. Hades once saved his life, which is why Poseidon came to rescue him."
"Judging by his aura, he must be a water-element psychic. Among the Seven Gods, likely surpassing level eight."
"Almost level nine."
"This complicates matters. Luckily he didn't start a battle with us, or our losses tonight would have been severe."
"Indeed. We speculate Poseidon is now reconstructing Hades's body. Once restored, Hades will surely seek revenge. After the way we left him, he won't let it go easily. We must devise countermeasures swiftly. Two level-eight psychics are hard to handle—and there's one who's nearly level nine."
Rice furrowed his brow, deep in thought. Against such legendary psychics, their forces were helpless. Perhaps only K and Rush combined could stand a chance. The X Legion and their lower-level psychics were no match.
After much deliberation, Rice had no choice but to entrust the matter to Xiao Feng. He instructed the Mark team member, "Connect me to Xiao Feng. Inform him of the situation."
The member nodded, linking Rice's computer to Xiao Feng's communicator. Xiao Feng appeared on screen, holding a bottle, chuckling. "Boss Rice, what brings you here so late? I was just enjoying a drink."
"There's something urgent. Watch this video first." Rice motioned for the Mark team to send the footage.
Xiao Feng called Rush and Tu Gou over to watch. After viewing, they were all stunned—the cloaked stranger effortlessly slaughtering so many X Legion soldiers left no doubt: this man was no ordinary adversary.
