Xiao Feng pivoted sharply toward the twelve o'clock direction, then swiftly sprang onto the jeep's roof, planting both feet firmly atop it. He reached out, grasped the Black Angel sniper rifle, hoisted it onto his shoulder, and leveled his sights precisely at twelve o'clock.
Through the Black Angel's scope, a massive lizard was rapidly closing in—a terrifying B-rank beast, grotesquely bearing two heads. It must have caught the scent of the C-rank mammoth carcass nearby, hastening its approach. Its movements were astonishingly swift; a lizard's crawling speed far outpaced that of the mammoth.
Inside the vehicle, Kelly lazily called out, "See anything, Xiao Feng...?"
Xiao Feng's voice turned resolute. "A B-rank magical beast."
"What? A B-rank beast? You're joking…" Kelly immediately felt her pain subside. Hastily, she tidied her hair and clothes, then slid into the driver's seat.
Xiao Feng's tone was calm yet commanding: "Don't start the engine yet. Only drive when I say. Also, radio Rice at Camp X for backup."
Without hesitation, Kelly grabbed the jeep's radio and called out to Rice at Camp X. Meanwhile, Xiao Feng's gaze remained fixed through the scope on the advancing B-rank lizard. When it reached the perfect firing range, he unleashed a thunderous volley—three slender Black Angel bullets burst forth simultaneously.
The Black Angel reloaded automatically, and Xiao Feng fired again.
The first volley targeted the left head of the two-headed lizard; the second volley aimed at the right. The interval between the two salvos was less than a tenth of a second.
After firing, Xiao Feng observed the first volley slam into the beast's left head, splattering blood in a vivid cascade. The Black Angel's bullets truly pierced through the defenses of a B-rank beast. Though the creature was not felled outright, breaching its beastly hide signaled a tangible hope for its demise.
"Drive," Xiao Feng ordered Kelly.
"Won't you come down?" she asked.
"No need. I'll stand here on the roof and keep firing. You just drive," he replied.
Kelly nodded and promptly floored the accelerator. The jeep's front wheels spun fiercely as it lunged forward.
Through the scope, Xiao Feng saw the beast's fury—the two heads bleeding profusely, roaring as it charged after him.
Firmly balanced atop the jolting jeep, Xiao Feng unleashed a relentless barrage from the Black Angel. Each bullet struck the same wound, chipping relentlessly away.
His fire acted like a chisel carving stone—slow but inexorable. Like drilling through solid rock by steady, repeated blows, eventually even the hardest stone yields.
Kelly steered toward Camp X, where reinforcements were already mobilizing: militia, mech warriors, and armed helicopters taking off from Black Whale City.
Despite the relentless bumps, Kelly glanced repeatedly at Xiao Feng standing unwavering on the jeep's crossbeams. He did not falter.
Then she checked the rearview mirror—there, the B-rank two-headed lizard closed the distance with alarming speed. It dodged the bullets by lowering its heads, but never slowed its pursuit.
Xiao Feng murmured, "Speed up. Push it to two hundred. Otherwise, it'll catch us, and then we're done."
Kelly protested, "I'm not worried about speed; I'm afraid you'll fall off."
"Don't worry. Drive as fast as you can, as fast as you dare. Go crazy," Xiao Feng urged.
Kelly adjusted her sunglasses and smiled. "Fine, it's your call. But if I wreck the jeep, you're buying a new one."
"Don't worry, Kerry's garage has plenty of vehicles. You can borrow any to cover my losses," he retorted.
Kelly laughed softly, then slammed her boot onto the accelerator. The jeep roared, accelerating furiously.
Xiao Feng continued hammering the trigger; the wound on the lizard's head grew wider and deeper.
Yet despite the Black Angel's immense power, its ammo box was the old model, with limited capacity. After several minutes, the rifle clicked empty.
Xiao Feng frowned, recalling the ten rounds of nuclear-fueled bullets stored away. "Those are for critical moments only."
Just then, jolted by the rough ride, his eyes caught a gleam on the barrel—a silver tube.
Suddenly, realization dawned: the engineer from Brom Company had told him—the silver cylinder was a laser cannon.
Xiao Feng grinned, aligning the laser sight on the lizard's left head, where the blood flow was heavier. The right head showed fewer injuries.
He squeezed the trigger. A humming red beam shot forth, striking the left head's wound. The previous barrage had weakened it enough; this laser blast pierced through the skull, rendering that side's head unconscious, collapsing limply.
Xiao Feng swiftly switched aim to the right head, firing twice more.
Normally, a laser pistol could fire three shots, but his seemed a bit shorter. Though its power remained fierce, it only managed two shots.
After the third trigger pull, it failed. Xiao Feng swiftly charged the Black Angel with his electric mutant ability, then fired another crimson beam, striking the lizard's eye.
The B-rank beast wailed, relentlessly chasing Xiao Feng and Kelly across the vast open ground. Kelly pushed the jeep to two hundred miles per hour but still couldn't shake it.
Though one head was destroyed, the remaining one seemed to anticipate Xiao Feng's aim, constantly twisting to complicate his shots. Thankfully, the laser's speed mitigated much of the difficulty.
Still, the laser cannon drained Xiao Feng's energy rapidly.
Kelly watched the beast through the rearview mirror, worry etching her face.
From several kilometers away, Tugu on the armed helicopter spotted the B-rank beast and Xiao Feng firing atop the jeep. Admiring Xiao Feng's daring, he called out to the pilot, "Support Xiao Feng with missiles!"
"Understood," the pilot responded. Activating the weapon system, he unleashed two air-to-ground missiles.
The fiery projectiles streaked toward the beast, detonating on its still-active heads.
Though not fatal, the explosions hindered its movement, relieving pressure on Xiao Feng.
Two more missiles followed, and Tugu barked, "Fire all remaining missiles!"
Without hesitation, the pilot emptied the helicopter's arsenal.
After a barrage of missiles, the beast was drenched in blood, left with only one functioning eye—nearly blinded.
Seizing the moment, Xiao Feng shouted to Kelly, "Stop!"
Surprised, Kelly asked, "Why?"
Before she fully stopped, Xiao Feng leapt from the jeep, leaving the Black Angel behind. He sprinted toward the beast.
Though initially hundreds of meters apart, Xiao Feng closed the distance in mere seconds, then vaulted onto the lizard's head.
With a sharp smack, he landed atop the wound, his hand plunging deep. He roared, "Taste this!" as an overwhelming surge of electricity burst from his body.
The helicopter drew closer, and Tugu and his team witnessed an unprecedented torrent of electric energy coursing fiercely through the beast's entire body.
