Upon returning to the sanctuary, the commander was momentarily stunned at the sight of the contingent Xiao Feng had brought with him.
Trailing behind Xiao Feng were hundreds of members from the Gui Yao bandit gang, accompanied by dozens of "war chariots." When this formidable procession appeared at the sanctuary gates, the commander initially feared it was yet another assault by the Gui Yao gang.
Only upon seeing Xiao Feng carrying the enhanced version of the Black Angel did he relax slightly. Leading from the front, Xiao Feng called out to the commander perched atop the defensive wall, "These people have been brought under my control. No need to worry—open the gates."
The commander blinked in disbelief. "Are you serious?"
"Absolutely. From now on, they're under your jurisdiction."
The commander's face lit up with excitement as he hurriedly swung open the great gates, allowing the Gui Yao gang to stream inside.
Xiao Feng led Gui Yao forward and addressed the commander, "This is the leader of the Gui Yao gang, Gui Yao himself. From now on, he answers to you. Set aside past grievances and treat him like your own brother. Understood?"
Though skeptical, the commander trusted Xiao Feng's words. After all, Xiao Feng was a bona fide high-ranking member of the X Legion, speaking with the authority of the entire faction. The commander nodded firmly, "Since Xiao Feng vouches for him, the past is behind us. No more grudges. Let's protect this sanctuary well."
Gui Yao, now clad in a worn black T-shirt and jeans, with long hair and a gaunt frame, looked somewhat malnourished. He smiled wryly, "Fine. As long as my brothers have a place to call home, I have no objections, sir. We'll count on you moving forward."
Xiao Feng turned to both the commander and Gui Yao, "You two work together to repair the sanctuary's buildings and live well. When the X Legion's influence grows here, you'll be able to sever ties with the Allied Forces completely." He glanced at the eastern horizon where the sun was rising, then added, "Dawn's breaking. We should move on—I don't want that Black Dragon scoundrel to slip away again."
The commander urged, "Have some food before you leave."
"No time. There's food on the plane; we'll eat and rest there." Before Xiao Feng could finish, Pandora's aircraft had already begun its slow descent onto the clearing before the sanctuary.
Earlier, Pandora had not returned with Xiao Feng and company, instead piloting the Trident directly.
As the plane touched down, Xiao Feng handed over the soil dog and Rush, adding the Count. The group prepared to depart. Xiao Feng instructed Rush to leave his communicator with Qin Tian for future contact.
Qin Tian hesitated, "Why don't I come with you?"
Xiao Feng shook his head, "Take good care of Grandpa. If anything happens, use the communicator to reach me. We'll be there within a day."
Qin Tian nodded solemnly, "Understood… Take care."
Xiao Feng smiled, "Didn't you see our strength? But still, better safe than sorry. This time, we can't let that Black Dragon escape again."
With that, he grabbed the Count, now donning another mask, and said, "Let's go."
Suddenly, Gui Yao spoke up, "Why don't I come with you? Though my abilities aren't exceptional, I can surely be of help."
Xiao Feng paused, "And what exactly would you do?"
"I'm just sitting here idle, and with the commander leading my brothers, we can't go pillaging anymore. Let me tag along," Gui Yao said earnestly.
"Alright then. If you're so eager, one more ally can't hurt. Besides, you're nearly indestructible. Having you along won't be a burden."
Xiao Feng, Soil Dog, Pandora, the Count, Rush, and Gui Yao—six in total—could not all fit into the Trident aircraft, which only accommodated four: two seats in the cockpit and two behind.
So they decided to take vehicles. Pandora parked the plane inside the sanctuary, where soldiers stood guard. The commander remained vigilant—after all, it was Xiao Feng's aircraft.
The six piled into two modified jeeps and headed north.
Though much slower than the plane, jeeps offered safety and stealth, less likely to draw attention. Plus, riding in a jeep allowed them to enjoy the passing scenery—something impossible from a speeding aircraft.
Xiao Feng piloted one jeep, Pandora the other. The vehicles were almost identical in performance. Just as they exited the sanctuary's territorial boundary and hit a highway, Xiao Feng and Pandora began racing.
Gui Yao, seated beside Xiao Feng, tightened his seatbelt nervously. He had never driven a jeep at such heart-stopping speeds. Rush, trailing behind in the other vehicle, also felt uneasy, clutching his seatbelt with trembling hands. "Damn it, Xiao Feng, why are you driving so fast?"
"Don't you feel exhilarated?" Xiao Feng grinned.
Indeed, the summer wind rushing past was cool and refreshing.
Pandora, driving the other jeep, was a cutting-edge android—the pinnacle of Earth's technological marvels. Seated in the driver's seat, she activated her radar scanning system, pushing the vehicle to its mechanical limits. The engine roared deafeningly.
Yet she remained several meters behind Xiao Feng, unable to close the gap. Xiao Feng pushed his jeep to the extreme, eyes fixed intently ahead, not daring to slack even for a moment. He knew a single lapse could send his jeep careening off the road, dooming both him and Rush. Gui Yao need not worry—such an impact wouldn't be fatal for him.
Xiao Feng was often puzzled by Gui Yao's true nature. By his traits, Gui Yao seemed to be another ability user. Yet Pandora detected no such registration, nor did Gui Yao bear any tattoos on his wrist. Xiao Feng was genuinely baffled by his origins.
After racing along the highway for over ten minutes, Pandora still failed to catch up with Xiao Feng. Frustrated, she pounded the steering wheel, "Damn it, is Xiao Feng even human? How can anyone drive this fast? No matter what I do, I can't catch him…"
Soil Dog stood up, gripping the jeep's frame for balance, glanced curiously around, then sat back down, buckling his seatbelt tightly and clutching the door handle.
He had clearly seen the speedometer spike to 200 kilometers per hour.
At such velocity, any accident would leave Pandora unscathed—thanks to the Evil Dragon Sect's invulnerability magic. The Count would likely survive as well. But Soil Dog, laden with weapons and ammunition, would be reduced to scrap if thrown out by a crash.
