Gojo Satoru returned to Konoha in his own peculiar style, appearing out of nowhere in the middle of the training grounds where Jiraiya was trying, with a mixture of exasperation and pride, to teach Naruto how to summon giant toads.
Naruto was covered in mud, but a new determination shone in his eyes.
"Gojo-sensei!" Naruto exclaimed, interrupting his failed attempt to summon Gamabunta. "You're back! How was your 'mission'?"
Jiraiya looked at Gojo with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. "So, did you resolve your 'energy anomaly' or whatever it was? And what was that thing you said about 'curses'?"
Gojo smiled, his bandage hiding any hint of his concern. "All resolved. It was just a small leak. Nothing this world needs to worry about... for now."
He decided not to reveal the true extent of the threat. The ninja world already had enough problems.
"Well?" Naruto persisted. "What was so important that you had to leave like that?"
Gojo shrugged. "Personal matters. But the important thing is that I'm back. How's training with the pervert going?"
Jiraiya snorted. "This brat has more chakra than brains. He's barely mastered the Rasengan, and Sage Mode... let's just say he's still having trouble sensing natural energy without turning into a toad statue."
Naruto blushed. "I'm trying, Jiraiya-sensei! But it's difficult!"
Just then, a notification popped up in Gojo's Dimensional Shop.
[Critical Plot Alert!]
[Imminent Canonical Event: Naruto Uzumaki's two-year training with Jiraiya.]
[Intervention Restriction: Direct interference in Naruto's training is prohibited. Any attempt to alter the plot will result in a severe penalty.]
Gojo frowned beneath his blindfold. Two years away from the village? Just when things are getting interesting?
"Damn," Gojo muttered, loud enough for Naruto and Jiraiya to hear.
"What's wrong, Gojo?" Jiraiya asked, in his usual sarcastic tone. "Don't you like the idea of your precious student going on a trip with his perverted old sensei?"
Gojo sighed. "It's not that. It's just... something the system just told me. It seems you and the Blond are about to go on a trip. A long trip."
Naruto looked at him, confused. "What are you talking about, Gojo-sensei? Where are we going?"
Jiraiya smiled, a twinkle in his eyes. "It's time you stopped being a genin, brat. We're going to travel the world, training and searching for information about the Akatsuki. Two years, Naruto. Two years to make you stronger."
Naruto blinked, surprised. Two years away from Konoha, away from his friends, away from Sakura... The idea was both exciting and terrifying.
Gojo looked at Naruto, a rare expression of concern on his face. "Listen, Blondie. This trip... is important. You need to get stronger. But remember what I've taught you. Haki, the control of your energy... don't forget it. And don't let that old pervert corrupt you too much."
Jiraiya snorted. "Hey! I'm a role model!"
Gojo ignored Jiraiya. "And remember, Naruto. No matter how far you go, you're not alone. I'll always be watching. And if you ever need my help... just say so."
Naruto nodded, his face a mix of excitement and anxiety. "I understand, Gojo-sensei. I'll get stronger. I promise!"
Gojo gave him one last pat on the shoulder. "Good. Then, I guess this is goodbye... for now." He vanished into thin air, leaving Naruto and Jiraiya alone in the training grounds.
Jiraiya looked at Naruto. "Good, brat. It seems your peculiar sensei has left. Now, focus. We have a lot to do in the next two years."
Naruto nodded, staring off into the horizon. Two years. Two years to get stronger, to master the Rasengan and Sage Mode, and to be ready for whatever the future held. And, somewhere in the world, Gojo Satoru would be watching, ready to intervene if the "plot" required it, or if his "Blonde" truly needed him. But for now, Naruto was alone with his new sensei, ready to face the challenge of his life.
