My child, forgive me, Mom

Nadi gazed unblinkingly at the ceiling. The ceiling was spotless, the room bathed in brightness, and the scent of disinfectant was somewhat sharp yet invigorating.

She was enveloped by a sense of freedom.

It was wonderful.

Nadi strained to curve her lips into a smile, but no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't manage it.

Late-stage stomach cancer...

Was that about her?

"Nadi!" The ward door was pushed open from outside, and an elderly woman who looked to be around sixty rushed to the bedside. She grasped Nadi's hand and wept sorrowfully, "My precious daughter, Mom has finally seen you!"

Nadi gave a violent start, her pupils contracted, and she stared with eyes wide open in disbelief. Her mouth opened and closed repeatedly, yet not a single word or sound came forth.

Was this really her mother?

Her mother was renowned in the social circle of City of Sura Bay ladies for her elegant appearance and youthful demeanor. When she used to shop with her mother, many people mistook them for sisters.

Her mother was only 50 years old. After not seeing her for two years, why did her mother suddenly appear to have aged ten years?

"Mom..." Nadi croaked. Her eyes brimmed with redness, and she painstakingly raised her hand, gently holding her mother's hand.

This touch felt as if it pierced her heart with countless needles.

"Why are there so many calluses on your hands?" Nadi saw with her own eyes that her once delicate mother now had hands full of calluses, and her knuckles had become thickened; it was evident that she had done a lot of rough work.

Nadi pulled the needle out of the back of her hand and slowly sat up. "Mom, tell me, what happened? What has happened during these two years!"

Ever since she was imprisoned, Nadi hadn't contacted the outside world. She could guess that it must be Adi's order that her family and friends were not allowed to visit her in prison.

In the area of Sura Bay, Adi was as wealthy as a nation and possessed immense power, and no one dared to defy his orders.

"It's nothing," Nadi's mother, Fatimah Lestari, shook her head. She wiped away her tears and tried to smile. "Nothing has happened to Mom. You take good care of yourself. There is Mom here. Mom believes you are innocent. My daughter is the kindest, so Mom will definitely get you out of prison."

For two years, Nadi had been like a lifeless shell and had long forgotten how to cry. Hearing her mother's words and feeling her mother's ardent love and trust, she suddenly burst into tears.

"Mom!" She buried herself in her mother's arms, as if she wanted to release all the pent-up wrongs she had endured over the years.

"My child, you have suffered. It's Mom's fault. Mom is sorry for you." No mother could stand to see her daughter cry like this. Fati's heart shattered into pieces.

Nadi cried for a long time, until she had no strength left, and fell asleep in her mother's arms.

Two years, more than seven hundred days and nights, it was the first time Nadi had slept so peacefully. She felt as if she were sleeping on a cloud, light and unrestrained, surrounded by love, and so content that she could almost fall into an eternal slumber.

But two years of prison life made it impossible for Nadi to sleep peacefully for long. Two hours later, she suddenly woke up.

There was no one in the ward.

"Mom?" Nadi called out.

No one responded.

She pursed her lips, got out of bed barefoot, and with a sense of trying, she opened the door.

Nadi originally thought there would be police officers guarding outside the ward, however, there was no one outside.

"Thud" A muffled sound came from a corner not far away.

Nadi was about to turn back into the room when she heard the sound and stopped. She moistened her dry lips and followed the sound.

Then, Nadi saw a scene that she would never forget for the rest of her life!
