"How dare you refuse to carry this child? Fine, go back to prison. And as for your mother, your best friend, her entire family, and even your lover, whether they live or die, don't expect me to care."
Nadi swayed on her feet.
Adi pressed on, his tone dripping with mockery. "Besides, Nadi, haven't you realized?"
His voice stretched out, low and menacing, like the whisper of a demon rising from the depths of hell. "Has your monthly cycle been delayed this month?"
"Tell me," he said slowly, savoring every word, "is it just a normal delay, or are you carrying my child?"
Nadi's body went rigid, frozen in place. Her mind felt as if it had exploded, leaving her unable to think clearly.
After what felt like an eternity, she held her breath, her trembling hands resting on her abdomen.
Was it possible? Had something taken root inside her?
Was she pregnant?
Could she really be carrying Adi's child?
How could it have happened so quickly?
