Chapter 69

"No need!"

Shenan didn't like being touched, especially not in a way that felt like pity.

He had a leg injury, but that didn't mean he was weak or needed help all the time.

This reaction was built into him like a deep habit.

But he forgot that the crystal cores had already been changing his body without him noticing.

What he thought was just a small push turned out to be much stronger than expected for an ordinary person.

"Ah!"

Kaylee suddenly felt a strong force coming from her arm. She lost her balance right away, stumbled back, and couldn't stop herself from falling. She cried out in surprise.

It was early morning, and people were going in and out of the hospital. Her loud voice caught a lot of attention right away.

Shenan's eyes widened in shock.

He didn't expect that his automatic reaction would cause something like this.

In that instant, his body moved faster than his brain. He quickly reached out and grabbed Kaylee's wrist just as she was falling.

But as soon as he used his strength, he realized something was wrong.

He didn't have full control yet. His power was like a wild horse out of control.

He just wanted to pull her back, but he forgot to hold back the force.

Kaylee felt an even stronger force pulling her forward. She had no control and ended up crashing into a firm, warm chest.

The clean smell of a man mixed with a soft scent of disinfectant filled her nose right away.

Through his thin shirt, she could clearly feel how solid his chest was and how strong and steady his heartbeat sounded.

Beat after beat, like loud drums in her ears. It also made her own heart beat out of rhythm.

Her cheeks turned red all at once, like a cooked shrimp. She even forgot how to breathe.

Shenan froze completely.

The light scent from Kaylee drifted into his nose, and the smooth skin on her wrist felt unbelievably soft.

His heart, which had stayed calm for years, suddenly skipped a beat.

A strange, soft tingling feeling rose in his chest.

He could even feel her soft hair brushing against his chin, tickling him slightly.

"S-Sorry."

At the same time, Shenan quickly let go of her hand. He stepped back stiffly, putting some space between them.

He tried to stay calm, but his voice came out faster than usual.

"I didn't control my strength well."

His eyes were a little unsteady now. He didn't dare look straight at Kaylee.

Kaylee finally came back to her senses. The shock and panic from earlier, along with her current embarrassment and awkwardness, made her want to get angry.

But when she looked up and saw Shenan's tense expression, his red ears, and how he avoided her eyes, it was clear he was nervous. He looked completely different from his usual cold and distant self. Her anger disappeared without warning.

His panicked reaction, compared to how he usually acted like he didn't want anyone near him, felt strangely touching.

Feeling uneasy, she lifted her hand to fix the messy strands of hair near her face. That small action revealed her unsettled emotions.

To hide her embarrassment, she looked away from Shenan and tried to speak in a calm voice.

"It's... it's fine. Let's go. I already registered. If we're late, the appointment will be canceled."

She turned around quickly and walked toward the hospital entrance, a bit flustered.

Shenan looked at her back, his eyes flickering with a mix of emotions. In the end, he said nothing and quietly followed her.

But the hand that had just pushed and pulled Kaylee slowly curled, as if it still remembered the soft touch from before.
