Seeing you again

Lyla fetched her bag as she prepared to leave. Today was the last day she had to spend with Brea before she left for the city tomorrow, and they had decided to go to every exciting place they had enjoyed together. She hurriedly gave her goodbyes to her family and opened the door, ready to exit, that was until she bumped into something, or rather someone

Her heart skipped as her eyes met with some familiar blue ones that always swirled with sparkling stars

"Hi Lyla"

Lyla's mind raced, trying to figure out why the man she never thought she would see again was standing at her front door. Did he find out her memories weren't erased? Was he back to properly do the job? Or had they sent him to get rid of her since she knew about them? Perhaps he doesn't know, she tried to convince herself, but if he didn't, why was he back? What if another creature had escaped from their world?

She tried to stay as calm as possible as she looked at the man who was just staring at her with a nervous look

"Can we talk?" Anson asked, hope glimmering in his eyes, but she remained silent. Was she supposed to pretend she had forgotten who he was? Was the spell even to forget him completely, or just what she knew about them?

"Darling, haven't you left yet?" her mother asked, coming from the dining room, and she quickly pushed Anson from view

"I was just leaving, bye mum."

Lyla dragged Anson from her house to the street and was surprised to see Damian leaning on a tree nearby

"What do you want?" she asked as calmly as she could

"We need to talk, there is something I need to tell you."

"About?"

"It would be better if we went somewhere more…private."

Lyla looked between the two; this definitely had to be a trick. Did they want to lure her?

"I'm busy."

"Lyla, it's important. Please"

"No. I'm truly busy."

"Okay, then when will you be free? Tomorrow ?"

"NO," she responded, letting her nervousness show

"Lyla…"

"Look, we already know your memories weren't erased, and we're not here to do that. What we need to discuss is important. How about this, you pick the location anywhere you want, and we'll meet you there."

Lyla looked at Damian and took in what he said. She was right, they truly did know, but could she trust them not to try again or do even worse? Even though they were giving her the 'luxury' of picking their meeting place, the two were different beings; they could easily do anything they wanted, no matter where they were, and she wouldn't risk putting anyone in danger, plus what was so important that they needed to urgently tell her

"As I said I really am busy but perhaps we can meet tomorrow afternoon at the horse fields, you know the place right?"

"Of course," Anson responded, sighing in relief

"Then I'll see you both tomorrow at 2."

The brothers watched as she left in silence before Anson turned to his brother

"She seems scared."

"Rightfully, after what happened, she'll be more cautious."

"Yeah, I just hope everything goes well tomorrow."

Lyla rushed to Brea's house, ignoring the encounter she had with the two, whatever it was they wanted to say or do, she would deal with that tomorrow; all that mattered now was her best friend

Their day went as great as both had wished, and by the time they were settling back at Brea's house, they were too tired to do anything else but sleep. The dreaded day between the two came, and Lyla cried as she bid her best friend goodbye, although she would only be a few hours away. Somehow, it felt like they wouldn't be seeing each other anytime soon, so she hugged her tight again and watched as she left

Lyla was anxious about seeing Anson and his brother that afternoon. On the few times her mind would wander before she blocked away those thoughts, she came up with different reasons why they were back, some of them scared her well enough that she packed pepper spray and the dagger Damien had somehow forgotten to retrieve from her since the encounter with the Wendigo

The two were already in the field by the time she arrived. Anson released a slight sigh of relief, something that didn't go unnoticed by her. After they each hired their horses, they mounted them and headed further ahead

Lyla was the first to speak when they finally came to a stop, her hand brushing on Max's neck, "So?"

She noted that Anson looked nervous while his brother just looked at her with a hint of wonder

"Aah, where do I even begin? First of all, I'm truly sorry about what happened. I know it was wrong to do that, especially without your consent, but..."

"I understand" Lyla interrupted, "you had to keep your world safe so I don't blame you, don't get me wrong I was offended and angry at first but I understand. I have a question though, why didn't it work?"

"Your mind is shielded."

"What? Is that one of my abilities as someone who can see your world?"

"Not really."

"I don't get it."

"Lyla," Damian started, and she wondered if he had ever said her name before

"I'm going to tell you something about our world, a legend, or better yet, a prophecy. Long ago, a war broke out in our world, a large and fierce war that changed everything. We used to be united and whole, but during this war, sides were taken, two to be precise. Many people lost their lives, and for the fear of losing more, the King called upon both sides and asked for a truce.

The truce would forever change our world. In the agreement, our world was to be separated into two sides, one known as Luminara, the light side, which is where we're from, and the other is called Umbraeth, the dark side. That is why our world is called Lumina-Raeth. The heavens made the truce permanent by separating the two sides with a magical wall preventing both sides from interfering with each other, although over the years, the wall has somehow become weaker, making it easier for people to pass, so the walls are guarded to prevent anything from happening.

One of the agreements on the truce was that there would be three leaders elected from each side, they would help run both sides, and act as a neutral party to prevent another war. The leaders knew it would be a hard task and they feared another war could indeed break out so they met and each of them shared their blood into an enchanted powerful vessel, the blood carried part of their power and after they were done they sent the vessel away with the help of the heavens to awaken only when the time was right

The vessel was to remain hidden and dormant until it found a perfect host, and when this host was found, the magic from their blood would flow into that person and become one. The being who was chosen was to act as a mediator between the two sides to ensure no such war ever occurred, and if it did, then they would be a weapon forged to put an end to the war and bring forth peace with the hope of making our world whole again."
