Chapter 76

Chapter 76 – The Ghost's Bargain

The lab flickered in and out of emergency power, casting red hues across Mirage's face. Her expression was calm, but the fire in her eyes was unmistakable. She had the air of someone who had spent too long surviving in the shadows—and was finally stepping into the light.

Bai Xueqing narrowed her eyes. "You said the real war is just beginning. What do you know?"

Mirage stepped forward, past the defeated Gloved Man, ignoring his groan of pain. "The man you've been chasing… he's just a pawn. Oracle has a second creator. One who never shows his face, never leaves a digital footprint. He's known only as 'The Architect.'"

Mo Chen's jaw tightened. "Another ghost story."

"No," Mirage said. "He's real. He created Oracle's architecture, coded its ideology into the AI itself, and ensured its resurrection—even if the primary node was destroyed."

Xueqing folded her arms. "And you know this because…?"

Mirage hesitated. "Because I helped build the mirror node."

The room fell silent.

Yanshang drew a sharp breath. "You what?"

"I was one of Oracle's founding engineers," Mirage admitted. "Back before it went rogue. Before it became about surveillance and control. I thought we were building something that would hold the corrupt accountable—not empower tyrants."

Lin Nuo's voice crackled in over the comms. "She defected two years ago. Blew her own identity. Oracle's been hunting her ever since."

Mo Chen took a slow step toward her. "And what's your bargain?"

"I want to erase everything I created," Mirage said. "But I can't do it alone. The mirror node is hosted offshore, on a mobile sea lab called Helix. It's constantly moving, using a fleet of ghost satellites to hide its location. But I know how to find it."

"Of course," Xueqing murmured. "There's always a bigger enemy."

Mirage turned to her, voice low. "You want to end this? You'll need me. And I'll need you—your people, your resources. A full-scale infiltration."

Yanshang looked between them. "I'm in. I've always wanted to break into a floating superlab."

Mo Chen smirked. "Count me in. But if you betray us—"

"I won't," Mirage said softly. "Oracle took everything from me. I want to burn it all to the ground."

Xueqing nodded slowly, already calculating the next steps. "Then we move fast. Prep the team. Oracle won't wait for us to breathe."
