Chapter 90 – The Sleeper Agent
Thunder rumbled over City A as rain streaked the office windows like tears in the night. Inside Mo International's top floor, the lights glowed softly. Most staff had gone home. But one man remained seated quietly at his desk, staring blankly at the screen.
Assistant Director Zhou Wei.
To the world, he was loyal, efficient, the model corporate officer. But deep within the encrypted messages stored on a hidden flash drive buried in his office drawer lay another identity—one cultivated over a decade.
Tonight, it was activated.
A single message lit up his secure burner phone:
"Phase Two. Now."
Without hesitation, Zhou rose, calmly exited his office, and entered the internal server chamber. He bypassed biometric locks with an emergency override code—one granted in trust by Mo Chen himself.
Within minutes, he uploaded a virus—clean, quiet, devastating.
The countdown began.
---
At Bai Corp, Xueqing's phone buzzed. It was Meng Zhihao.
"Trouble," he said. "Our systems picked up a silent breach attempt. The signature's familiar—Mo International's."
Xueqing froze. "That's not possible unless…"
Mo Chen's voice was tight behind her. "Unless someone on the inside just turned traitor."
He immediately called his private security director. "Check the internal logs. Focus on Zhou Wei."
Seconds later, the confirmation came. "Sir, he just exited the building. Security cam shows him dumping something in the river."
Mo Chen swore. "He's been planning this for months."
Xueqing's eyes narrowed. "How much access did he have?"
"Too much," Mo Chen said. "He's the reason we were always one step behind in the last quarter."
Meng Zhihao's voice buzzed through speaker. "If he planted something inside your systems, Mo… your company could lose years of R&D within hours."
Mo Chen didn't flinch. "Then we cut the cord."
---
Back at Mo International, the virus reached its final stage. But instead of spreading, it halted—frozen mid-script.
A message blinked across the screen.
"Too predictable. – M"
Zhou Wei stared in shock. The servers began purging the virus line by line. He backed away—right into a waiting security team.
Mo Chen's voice played through the intercom. "Did you really think I wouldn't build a trap for traitors?"
Zhou Wei struggled as he was pinned to the ground. "You don't understand! He has everything! He promised power!"
"You gave up loyalty for shadows," Mo Chen said coldly. "Now face the light."
---
That night, Bai Xueqing and Mo Chen stood again on the rooftop of Bai Corp, watching the storm pass.
"He was planted long before I took over," Mo Chen said. "He earned my trust."
Xueqing turned to him. "You still trust me?"
His gaze didn't waver. "With my life."
Lightning flared in the distance, illuminating them both.
"Then let's finish this war," she said.
