Alright, so when I said, let's go take on a quest, I basically meant, Vaniti go find one you want to do. I could clear anything solo, duo, trio, it doesn't matter. Vaniti needs the experience if she wants to grow into her subclass and race powers.
But…Goblin Slaying…?
This is boring.
Not to mention this is an Initiate-ranked quest. But hey, she couldn't beat skeletons, so this might prove something for her.
I floated around as I watched Vaniti tackle on the goblins. With one of her new magic skills, and the level 1 all Spirit Elves start off with, [Spirit Shot] was essentially her forming a bow and arrow through Spirit Magic. Hard to master—but it looked like even she was getting into the swing of things.
She pulled back the bow once, the entirety of it shining like white, brimming and glowing. She shot at one goblin, and the impact sent it back flying into multiple trees. She dodged the slash of another, and retaliated with lesser arrows quickly at sudden speeds that stuck onto that same goblin killing him entirely.
Yeah, she's learning fast.
Too fast. Faster than I expected. Maybe faster than what her body can take.
But fast is what I need, right? Faster progression means she's getting stronger and stronger. But what if her body can't handle it? I may be able to make her the perfect Spirit Elf…but I have to understand that there's no more gaming mechanics here anymore.
She might break her body trying to go through this.
Then…I would be at fault, right?
I continue to watch her. One goblin managed to sneak on her, and swung their club. Luckily, she blocked with her bow in time and rolled back. Her hands released the grip, and the bow faded away into pure light.
Then, she kneeled and stuck out her arm, her left hand specifically as it instantly formed a piercing slash towards the goblin, impaling it for good.
My eyes widened, when could she do that? I don't even think that's a move!
When the dust settled, her hand relaxed and the white beam disappeared. That was Spirit Magic, concentrated to act like a long range sword that was shot out. Impressive.
Vaniti made her way back to me, a few sweat beads on her face, but it looked like it didn't faze her at all.
"16 out of 30 goblins eliminated, shall I keep going?" She asked, her tone leaning a bit on the monotone side. I nodded.
"Yeah, you're doing pretty good. What was that last move? It looked nice."
I could see her eyes squint under the blindfold, as if she was trying to make sense of that move too. She looked around, but entirely her body posture told me even she didn't have the perfect answer.
"I…I don't know. Most of it feels like…second nature to me. My body moves with me, it feels like. Not against me."
I furrowed a brow. Second nature? What kind of nature makes a sword out of light and impales without blinking?
Either she's a prodigy…or something's leaking through the cracks.
And by leaking, I hope it's the meta Spiritstalker build.
I hope.
But even then…I think that's what it is.
The miracles of activating your Spirit Elf race and Nightstalker subclass powers (although she's barely got into that part). She must be describing Spirit Magic, and how it's helping in battle.
Which…now that I think, kind of makes sense as to why she's incredibly dexterous and mobile now. Imagine how she was fighting without being guided with Spirit Magic? Probably confused, uncoordinated.
This is not to say she doesn't need Spirit Magic…but she basically needs to depend on it if she wants to do anything combat wise. No wonder why she lost against those skeletons too…
I snap my fingers to gain her attention again, "Well, what would you like to call the spell you just made?"
Vaniti thought for a second, before answering.
"Spirit Stab."
Okay, cool first.
Edgy second.
She…smirks. Vaniti smirks after naming it, then looking at me. I could only smirk back. She's getting that confident Nightstalker attitude soon. Even without casting a proper Nightstalker magic skill yet.
"There's still more goblins to slay. Want me to take over—"
"No." She says it quick, sharply. Defining. I was almost taken aback, but realizied how I must've came off.
"No, didn't mean it like that…just, you know, help. I don't want you to get hurt or exert yourself, you know?" I explain to her, Vaniti nods, but her stance doesn't change on the matter at all.
"I'm fine, I'm your Consort, aren't I?" She asks, and I could only nod. She's right…but even I think she shouldn't be putting herself through this.
Just a day ago she could barely fight skeletons. Now she's on her way to clear entire goblin camps by herself. In a video game, that would be crazy good skill.
In…in real life however?
That's dangerous.
And since I…got transported to the game somehow, this is my real life.
My dragon horns pulsed once, and then twice. My head snapped to a certain area, and there was rustling coming from the bushes. Out in the open, more goblins sprayed out into the area. Five, no ten, no…even more.
I looked over to Vaniti, and she tensed up, before looking at me. Even under her blindfold, I could see it. Her eyes, not guessing, but targeting. Asking me even if she wasn't saying anything as of now.
To eliminate them.
And…as her teacher, I gave her the command.
I flicked my tail towards the goblin, and she nodded.
But she held her hand out, and there a dark aura formed in the palm of her hand.
That's not…no, wait, it is.
A smile drawn on my face. It gradually became greater.
That's her first Nightstalker Magic Skill.
And she learned it on her own with no magic scrolls or text to learn from.
Incredible.
She said it quietly, but my ears twitched, I heard it.
"Night Clone."
As the goblins rushed us, two clones appeared from the shadows and attacked the goblins from behind using [Spirit Shot], the other followed up with [Spirit Stab] and by the time I looked back at Vaniti, as she was just standing next to me.
She vanished.
I watched it with my own eyes, as the goblins struggled to fight against three Vaniti's.
I genuinely don't think even one of them managed to get a hit on all three.
Just…attack, man.
Brutal.
Too brutal.
