A Taunting Dare in the Dark

"What arrangement?" I asked again, my voice stronger this time.

The tension on the deck was suffocating. Everyone waited for Zara's answer, but before she could speak, Ethan appeared behind her.

"Zara, I think you should leave," he said firmly, his hand gripping her elbow.

She yanked her arm away. "Don't touch me."

"Then don't make scenes at my house," Ethan shot back. "You weren't invited in the first place."

Zara's eyes darted between Rhys and me, that malicious smile still playing on her lips. "Fine. But this isn't over."

As Ethan escorted her inside, I turned to my friends. "I need another drink."

"I'll get it," Liam offered, touching my arm gently.

I glanced back to where Rhys had been standing, but he was already gone. The knot in my stomach tightened. What "arrangement" had Zara been talking about?

"Don't let her get to you," Seraphina said, reading my expression. "She's just trying to cause trouble."
