Cafeteria Violence and a Courageous Stand

I stared at Liam across the cafeteria table, his warm brown eyes filled with concern. The confession I'd almost made earlier still hung between us, unspoken. Part of me wanted to tell him everything—about Rhys being my mate, about the rejection, about the pain that still lingered. But I couldn't bring myself to do it.

"I just don't understand why he keeps bothering me," I said instead, pushing my salad around with a fork. "I wish he'd leave me alone."

Liam reached across the table, his hand hovering near mine but not quite touching it. "Rhys Knight has always been trouble, Elara. But his fixation on you..." He shook his head. "I don't like it."

Seraphina slid into the seat beside me, dropping her designer bag on the table. She looked between us, her sharp eyes missing nothing.

"You look exhausted," she said to me, then turned to Liam. "And you look worried. This Rhys situation is getting out of hand."
