Elara's Farewell A New Path with Orion

I stared at my suitcase, nearly packed and waiting on my bed. The decision had been quick, but after the revelations of the past few days, I couldn't stay here any longer. Not with Rhys in the territory. Not with Orion's betrayal still fresh. Not with the weight of promises I didn't understand pressing down on me.

A soft knock on my door interrupted my thoughts.

"Come in," I said, zipping up the last pocket of my luggage.

Mom stepped inside, her eyes widening at the sight of my packed bag. "Elara, what are you doing?"

"I'm leaving tonight." I kept my voice steady, though my heart was racing.

"Tonight?" Her voice cracked with worry. "But where will you go? Why so suddenly?"

Before I could answer, Alistair appeared in the doorway behind her, his face etched with concern. My stepfather had always been kind to me, even when I first arrived as the awkward teenager who hardly spoke.

"I heard voices. Everything okay?" he asked, then noticed my suitcase. "You're leaving?"
