Sleep eluded me all night. Every time I closed my eyes, I'd see Rhys's face at dinner—that flash of raw emotion when I mentioned having someone serious in my life. I hadn't missed the way his fork bent in his hand or how his jaw clenched tight. I'd hurt him, and some vindictive part of me had enjoyed it.
But now, in the quiet darkness of my childhood bedroom, guilt gnawed at me. I wasn't being entirely honest. Yes, there was someone in my life at Storm Crest, but "serious" was stretching the truth. We were close, but defining our relationship was complicated.
I rolled over, burying my face in my pillow. Why was I even here? Coming back to Silver Moon had been a mistake. I should be packing my bags, not lying awake thinking about the man who had broken me.
"Rise and shine, sleeping beauty!"
I jerked awake to find Debra's face inches from mine, her wild red curls tickling my cheeks. I hadn't even realized I'd fallen asleep.
