I stared at the empty space where Rhys had been standing seconds ago, my heart still racing from our brief eye contact. The phone in my hand suddenly buzzed again, startling me.
"You still there?" Orion's deep voice filled my ear.
I slipped into the women's washroom for privacy. "Sorry, yes. Just had a... moment."
"What kind of moment?" His tone sharpened with concern.
"The Rhys kind," I admitted, leaning against the marble countertop. "Nothing happened. Just saw each other."
Orion's sigh was audible. "I don't like this, Elara. You being there alone."
"I'm not alone. I have friends here." I caught my reflection in the mirror—flushed cheeks, bright eyes. Not the terrified omega who'd run away four years ago. "Besides, this was supposed to be a quick visit to see my mom."
"Who conveniently planned it around your birthday." The amusement in his voice made me smile.
"You noticed that too?" I rolled my eyes. "Mom's not exactly subtle with her matchmaking attempts."
