I whirled around, my heart jumping into my throat. Rhys stood mere inches away, his broad shoulders blocking the corridor's light. The sudden closeness made me take an instinctive step back.
"What are you doing here?" I managed to ask, hating how my voice betrayed a slight tremor.
His eyes raked over me, dark and stormy. "Last I checked, this is my house."
The tension between us crackled like electricity before a storm. His jaw was clenched so tight I could see a muscle ticking in his cheek.
"Who were you talking to?" he demanded, his voice low and dangerous.
"Were you eavesdropping on me?" I shot back, finding my footing. I wasn't the same frightened omega he once knew.
Rhys took another step closer, forcing me to retreat until my back hit the wall. "Answer the question, Elara. Who is D in your call list?"
I lifted my chin, refusing to be intimidated. "That's none of your business."
