As the carriage got closer to its designated landing pad, Helios leaned out the window to get a better view. This city was indeed something else entirely.
It was comprised of several different levels, the top level seemed to be a rather busy one.
The streets were wide and well kept, Helios assumed this place was being constantly cleaned by public workers. It also looked to be the place where most government and company buildings were situated.
As the carriage slowly landed on the landing pad, he could see a building of enormous size next to it, that was their destination.
"We've arrived. This is where you'll be processed."
Said Jack as he was pointing at the large government building.
Next they opened the doors of the carriage and headed for the reception hall.
Upon stepping into the reception hall they were greeted by a magnificent interior. On the ceiling rests a grand chandelier. On the two sides of the hall were stairs leading upstairs. And at the end of this hall stood a reception desk, with one female receptionist behind it.
"Welcome to Rem City Hall. How may I be of service to you."
Said the receptionist, soon as the two got to the reception desk.
"We have an appointment with Official Graham." Jack aswered like it was common procedure to him. Since it was.
"I'll notify him of your arrival, please wait just a moment."
With that the receptionist started looking around under her desk as if searching for something, soon she found what she was looking for.
It was a small device, the size of an ear, and it also looked like an ear.
Helios had long known that phone like devices existed in this world, but he never actually had the chance to see one.
With the ear like device in hand she put it to her own ear and tapped the back of it to activate it.
Helios expected her to start speaking, but she never did and to his surprise just a few seconds later she looked back to the two and said with a smile.
"Mr. Graham is waiting for you in room B4-21."
With that all done with Jack's lead they went around the reception desk and arrived at third stairway, that was hidden from Helios's view till now.
Following that the two made their way to the fourth floor of the building and there looked for the room numbered 21.
As they arrived next to the room Jack took the initiative to knock, following that a voice answered from the inside.
"Come in!"
The two made their way into the room. The interior was just your average office space with a desk in the middle, and the owner of the voice behind it.
The man sitting there looked to be rather old, even older that Joshua was, but he was in atleast better shape than him.
The man had already graying hair in some parts, while other parts were still carrying their original black coloring. On his face was a simple, but brilliant mustache, which added to the official's great presence. And the eyes of the man were that of the ocean, they were a dark blue color.
"Welcome Helios to the Holy City of Rem, and by extension to the Holy Kingdom of Remia."
Said the Official with a great amount of friendliness in his voice.
"I believe Jack has already given you a sum up of what you can expect."
"Yes, he said I should expect to serve in the military for a year, and then get a permanent citizenship in the kingdom."
Although Helios wanted to introduce himself, he didn't bother since the official, whose name he already knew, made no effort to do so either.
"Well, I have some good news for you Helios."
"Since you've already contributed greatly to the kingdom, by stopping the invasion of Alt Village with Jack, we've been thinking of giving you a more permanent position instead."
"And what would that be?" Helios asked with great anticipation
"You and Jack would form a team together, and would take care of cases around the capital. These would be minor cases so, you being a Grasper shouldn't be a problem for now."
But just as the official was going to list the other parts of the deal, he got interrupted by Jack.
"Wait Sir, this is the first time I'm hearing of this. I don't want to do small time stuff in the capital, especially not with this guy."
"Jack this is not negotiable, this has been decided by the higher ups, so long as Helios accepts this offer you will have to accompany him."
"So I have the option to refuse?" Helios asked hearing that there was such an option
"Of course, but if you were to refuse this offer, you would only have the standard offers at your disposal"
"So military service or exile?"
"Yes."
Helios wasn't too happy, but kind of already figured that this was how it would go.
"So, when would I get the citizenship?"
"Your contribution while, great isn't quiet enough. But the requirements are very simple, once you complete a more difficult mission with your team, you will be granted your citizenship."
"That's it?"
"Yes, but as I've said, this is meant to be a more permanent position, so you would have to work with us for a long time, and since you may be exposed to certain government secrets, you will also have to swear secrecy when going into retirement. That's why this is a choice, if you don't wish to join the government and be permanent employee, you should go to the military, serve your one year and live your life however you may wish, but just know that you have to choose by tomorrow."
"That is all, you may leave. The meeting will be in this very same office at the same time tomorrow, just ask the receptionist to notify me."
With that all being done the two said their goodbyes and left the office.
When they got downstairs, and left the building, Helios heard a sudden grumbling from next to him.
"Am I really gonna be stuck with this guy for even longer?" Jack proclaimed seemingly not realising that his grumbling had in fact been heard by Helios
"Do you really hate me that much? I thought we made a pretty good team during the invasion."
"You almost say that like you actually like me. And its not even about your personality, I just hate that me, an Enlightened level Concepter have to be stuck with a newbie Newcomer for the forseeable future."
"I think you'll be fine, we are gonna have a lot of fun in the future...."
"Partner."
Hearing the word partner leaving Helios's mouth almost made Jack want to throw up even if he knew that this sort of thing was in his nature.
"Don't say that word anymore, and also you could just reject the offer thats always an option."
"There is no way I am doing that."
"Why? It would be good for me, and you would also not have to work for the goverment for years to come."
"Working for the government doesn't sound half bad, besides there is no way I would want to go to the military, not when the war with the Gait Empire is becoming more and more certain."
"So you are set in stone, huh?"
"Yep...so anyways, you gonna show me around the capital or no?"
"Guess I'll have to."
"Jack you really are such a tsundere."
"A what now?"
With the two coming to a common understanding headed to one of the nearby elevators, or atleast what acted as it. It was a large platform which stopped in between the different levels of the city, it was something that was redundatly available in the city, but that didn't stop these platforms from being rather crowded, and thanks to it only having a small railing on the sides, it wasn't that safe either.
After the platform arrived at the cities third level, with Jack initiative they got off.
Their destination was a restaurant that Jack apparently often frequented.
While Helios wanted to know more about the city as whole he couldn't do so on an empty stomach, so he suggested Jack recommend them a place to go, and thus they ended up here.
Restaurant Kyrios, a masterclass restaurant that was clearly above Helios's current pay grade of zero. Luckily for him, Jack was a member of one of the most famed families, so money was of no concern to him.
The two went in, and thanks to Jack's status as a VIP customer they were able to get a table quickly.
"So Mr. Jack any recommendations?"
"None just read."
Jack was having none of Helios's antics, so rather than trying to get something out of him Helios simply started reading the menu.
And to his surprise, or maybe not so much, he was actually able to read it.
Looking through the menu, there were a few items that atleast made sense to him, but others were foreign to him. Not just that he didn't know the name of some of the dishes, but even the listed ingredients seemed like a random assortment of letters to him.
'What the hell is a beoril, and what's a kakas, like actually what are these ingredients.'
As he went down the list of items one quickly pulled in his attention, it was just a sort of natural attraction that he felt for it. Though he couldn't be sure he felt like what was listed on there was exactly what he was thinking, and if his thinking was true this both excited and terrified him.
'It says Draco, isn't that like a dragon or something'
