Inside the Factory Module of the Star Palace Colony Satellite.
After returning, Reid glanced at the system's rewards—just 50 Merit Points, 100 G-Coins, and that was it.
There was no helping it. During this mission, Reid had only shot down two mobile suits, one of which—the Venom—had been captured. A Shadow Energy unit without even a Lambda Driver was already worth 100 G-Coins, which wasn't bad.
However, Reid still considered this battle a massive win because the actual gains couldn't be calculated so simply.
After feeding the complete system data downloaded from the Tir Na Nog to his system, he would receive a top-tier weak AI warship control system, along with a corresponding virus software designed specifically for it.
As long as he could later modify this warship system into a version suitable for space combat, Reid could start mass-producing warships. All he needed was to assign a warship commander, some communications officers, and ground crew (ordinary native communications officers and ground crew could handle these roles). The warship would then be capable of automatic firing, evasion, and navigation.
Of course, its actual maneuverability wouldn't match that of a top-tier human helmsman or fire control specialist, but it would easily outperform over 60% of the Earth Alliance and PLANT's warship helmsmen and gunners.
Moreover, Reid wasn't worried about this system being cracked by CE universe programmers. Its source code was also based on Whispered black technology, with programming logic completely unrelated to the CE universe. Even Coordinators would have to admit they couldn't understand the code, let alone modify it.
As for rewriting the code from scratch—why bother developing an entirely new warship system when you could just use this one?
After all, if even Reid wanted to modify it, he'd first have to learn how to read the system's analysis documentation. No documentation? Who the hell could understand this code!
The gains from the Tir Na Nog's system had already covered the costs and then some. But what truly turned a modest profit into a windfall were the two people now by Reid's side.
Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang weren't completely mindless robots. Kowloon's training had been highly successful, turning them into perfect tools—capable of independent thought and interaction, yet as obedient as machines.
Now, having witnessed events far beyond their comprehension and arriving in the CE universe, the system had assigned them identities following the rules for summoned characters. Their memories were directly implanted into their minds, leaving the two sisters utterly disoriented.
When people are confused, they instinctively cling to something for security. Normally, the sisters would have held onto each other—that was how they had endured Kowloon's hellish training in the past.
But the Kapool wasn't spacious enough to comfortably fit three people, especially since this particular Kapool was smaller than the original model.
So Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang had no choice but to squeeze against Reid's sides, one on the left and one on the right. Now, they clung to him like he was a massive log in a flood, their hands nearly tearing through his pilot suit (he wasn't wearing the modified suit in the cockpit), and the flesh beneath naturally didn't escape unscathed.
Fortunately, Kowloon clearly hadn't skimped on their nutrition. How to put it? Their development was... quite impressive. Reid found himself in a peculiar state of pain and pleasure.
Thankfully, having been trained under Kowloon's madness since childhood, the two sisters had a strong capacity to adapt to new situations.
Before long, they grasped their current circumstances and slowly released their grip on Reid. Their eyes, when they looked at him, now held a faint glimmer of newfound understanding.
Seeing this, Reid softened his tone as much as possible and said,
"Alright, now that you have some understanding of the situation, how about we continue this conversation after getting down?"
Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang, conditioned to respond reflexively to orders, immediately replied in unison,
"Understood." ×2
After disembarking from the mech, Reid observed the two sixteen-year-olds—their eyes hollow, their emotions almost entirely flat—and asked,
"Let's start with introductions. My name is Reid Isaac, someone who can traverse the battlefields of various worlds.
This place serves as my base, and incidentally, I was born in this world.
When I died here, a mysterious entity took notice of me and granted me the ability to cross between worlds.
Currently, in this world, I am the leader of the Crimson Wings Mercenary Group. And every member of this mercenary group comes from other worlds, not this one.
By the way, what identities did that mysterious being assign to you? You've been given the basic information about this world, right?"
Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang exchanged another glance, further confirming that the knowledge in their minds wasn't an illusion. Then, in perfect sync—both in voice and wording—they replied,
"Confirmed. Reid Isaac is the new master. Command priority: highest." ×2
After speaking, the elder sister, Xia Yufang, continued,
"That mysterious entity assigned me the identity of an escapee from an enhanced-human laboratory in the Pacific, originally from the East Asian Republic. All world data has been verified."
Once she finished, the younger sister, Xia Yulan, added,
"My situation is the same. Additionally, I believe the being who brought us here is a god, and you are His emissary."
Reid nodded, then checked their loyalty levels. Damn—straight to 99. He wasn't sure if that was the maximum or if they were just one point away from full devotion.
Still, it was clear these two had completely accepted him as their new master—or rather, as the divine envoy who had led them out of suffering.
So Reid smiled and said,
"Alright, no need to call me 'master.' I'd rather avoid misunderstandings. Just address me as 'Captain.'"
Upon hearing this, Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang once again replied in eerily synchronized monotone,
"Understood, Captain." ×2
Then, Xia Yufang added,
"Captain, please allow us to continue calling you 'master' in private. We are tools. Tools without a master are nothing but scrap. Please permit this."
Reid studied them and was reminded of an anime he'd seen in his past life. The heroine, Ikaros, was a mechanical angel. Even when her master wished for her to develop independent thought and freedom, she refused—because to her, a master was essential. Without one, she would be lost, unable to find her own worth, sinking into a void of emptiness.
So Reid sighed inwardly. Though he didn't want to treat them as mere tools, change had to come step by step. They had been under Kowloon's influence for so long—habits like these couldn't be overturned overnight.
He nodded and said,
"Fine. But never use 'master' in front of others. Also, my first order for you is this: find a hobby unrelated to warfare. This order has no time limit.
Now, let me introduce you to your comrades. They're all veterans who arrived before you."
After speaking, Reid set off with Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang, who were still in their combat suits. He planned to have Ange and Noin take the two girls to buy some suitable clothes to change into before hosting another welcome banquet.
Half an hour later, in Ange's office at the New Misurugi Republic government building in the Star Palace Colony Satellite. Reid sat helplessly in a chair, watching the three women seated on the sofa across from him, while Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang stood behind Reid, awaiting the start of the "three-hall interrogation."
The three women opposite were naturally Ange, Noin, and Une. This interrogation had a reason behind it.
Normally, the three were used to Reid bringing newcomers, even if they were two underage girls, since they all knew Reid couldn't control who the deity sent over.
However, Ange felt a bit jealous seeing these two girls sticking so close to Reid. Being accustomed to roughhousing with him, she decided to step forward and "interrogate" the situation properly.
But Ange's suspicious approach triggered Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang. Before Reid could introduce them, the two drew their military daggers and stood protectively in front of Reid, saying:
"Woman, keep your distance. Stay away from the regiment leader."
Ange was both amused and angered. She hadn't expected these two girls to show such loyalty right off the bat, immediately challenging her authority as the top woman in Reid's life.
Of course, Reid wouldn't let things escalate. He quickly intervened:
"Yulan, Yufang, sheathe your daggers. This is my girlfriend, and the first otherworldly companion I ever met."
Hearing this, Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang immediately recognized Ange as an absolute ally. They promptly sheathed their daggers and stepped aside, saying:
"Understood, Master." (They assumed Ange was part of Reid's household, hence the private address.)
The word "Master" shattered Ange's composure. She hadn't minded the girls drawing their daggers—after all, they were just protecting Reid. Her own actions had caused the misunderstanding, so there was nothing to blame them for.
But calling Reid "Master"? That was unacceptable. Was Reid playing some weird game? No—their eyes didn't look right.
So, Ange immediately called Noin over via comms. Une arrived on her own, as she apparently had something to discuss with Ange and "coincidentally" walked in on the scene.
Thus, the three-hall interrogation tribunal was assembled. Facing the three women who held the reins of military (the immigrant forces were mostly under Noin's command), political (Une), and financial power (Ange managed the mercenary group's funds, though not the government's), Reid could only "tremble in fear" as he prepared to answer their questions.
Ange was the first to speak. She fixed Reid with a dangerous glare before addressing Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang:
"You're Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang, right? You two don't need to stand there. Go sit on the sofa and listen. We'll ask if we need anything from you."
However, Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang didn't take the offer. They remained silent and unmoving—without Reid's order, they wouldn't budge.
In the end, Reid, worried Ange might hold a grudge against them, spoke up first:
"Yulan, Yufang, listen to her. Go sit on the sofa. Just answer whatever they ask honestly later—it's not like I've done anything wrong anyway."
Reid spoke up, and only then did the two girls obediently go sit on the sofa, though they remained tense, as if attending a military briefing.
Ange, seeing how well the two girls listened to Reid, smirked and continued,
"They really only listen to you, huh? Reid, care to explain a bit? Also, at least act like someone being interrogated—sit properly."
Reid truly had a clear conscience, treating this as just humoring Ange while also introducing the girls' background. So as he brewed tea, he recounted the entire battle and how they came to be here in detail.
Ange, Noin, and Une took a moment to digest the information before Ange asked doubtfully,
"Reid, didn't you say last time with Aina that you couldn't bring people back? Now you can?"
Reid nodded and replied,
"Yes, it's a reward for completing our mission to escort the Archangel. The conditions are strict, but from now on, it's possible. Moreover, people from this world can also join our team."
After that, Reid went on to explain the recruitment module's detailed settings.
Once he finished, Ange looked at Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang and immediately felt pity for them. Having encountered the Royal Secret Guards before, Ange reached the same conclusion as Reid. Their state wasn't something that could be changed overnight—it would require gradual influence. So she could only sigh helplessly and say,
"I see. No wonder these two girls act so strangely. But Reid, if the recruitment conditions are this strict, won't everyone you recruit in the future end up like them? Also… you haven't done anything bad to these two, have you?"
Reid shook his head and denied it outright.
"Of course not. The recruitment conditions aren't that extreme. For example, if someone is in a life-or-death situation and I offer to save them in exchange for their lifelong obedience, as long as they genuinely agree at that moment, I can recruit them. The thing is, they wouldn't expect me to take them out of their world. Whether they'll work well afterward depends on how we handle them."
"As for whether I took advantage of them, you can just ask Yulan and Yufang. I've already told them to answer honestly."
Reid had no worries letting Ange question them because he knew he hadn't done anything improper. However, ten seconds later, he realized he'd been too careless.
Seeing Reid's permission, Ange didn't hold back and immediately asked a pointed question:
"Yulan, Yufang, has Reid ever taken advantage of you?"
Then, remembering that Reid had mentioned these girls were raised as tools and might not understand what "taking advantage" meant, she added,
"Taking advantage means—has Reid ever seen you naked? Or touched your chest, butt, or other private areas?"
At this, Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang immediately nodded. Reid suddenly felt three murderous auras directed at him.
Now panicking, Reid exclaimed,
"Hey, Yulan, Yufang! When did I ever do the two things Ange just mentioned?! Don't just nod like that!"
As their master, Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang wouldn't hide the truth from him. So, one after the other, they replied in eerily calm voices,
"We were seen half-naked when Kowloon ordered us to strip. Though we didn't take everything off, we were left in just our underwear."
"Touching the chest happened inside the cockpit. It was such a cramped space, and with both my sister and I holding onto you, your arms were bound to brush against our chests."
Reid was utterly speechless but couldn't refute it. Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang weren't messing with him—they were simply stating the facts.
Left with no choice, Reid turned to face the three murderous auras and awkwardly said,
"You heard them... It's all a misunderstanding...."
Ange and Noin were staring at Reid with dangerous glints in their eyes, while Une watched with amusement—though upon closer inspection, there was a hint of danger in her gaze as well.
Yet, none of the three lashed out. Surprisingly, Ange, who had the shortest temper, was the first to let Reid off the hook. She sighed softly and said,
"Fine. How did I end up with a boyfriend who attracts so many admirers? By the way, Reid, you're not actually planning to become an emperor in the future, turn back the clock two centuries, and build yourself a massive harem, are you?"
Reid shook his head frantically—this was a life-or-death question. Even if he secretly entertained the idea, he couldn't possibly admit it. After all, in today's world, only a few small countries in the Middle East and Africa still legally permitted polygamy. Everywhere else strictly enforced monogamy. Of course, powerful men, barring exceptional circumstances, often had multiple lovers—some things never changed across eras.
Still, Reid didn't want to close off his options entirely. For once, he mustered some backbone and declared,
"Stop joking around. I don't even have one wife yet, and you're already asking about a harem? But Ange, one thing's for sure—I love you. Though my love might not be yours alone—Noin can't be left out—I hope you understand. Frankly, I've long decided to take matters into my own hands. Whether you agree or not, you're stuck with me for life."
With that, Reid ignored Une's amused gaze, plopped himself between Ange and Noin, and pulled both women into his arms.
Ange never expected Reid, who was usually so timid in matters of the heart, to suddenly grow a spine. Caught off guard, she didn't resist at all.
As for Noin, she had even less reason to resist. She'd been unsure how to navigate these feelings, especially how to broach the topic with Ange. Now, Reid's domineering attitude gave her the perfect excuse—no more hiding.
Ange had known this day would come eventually. At least Reid was willing to shoulder the responsibility, showing some semblance of accountability. So, after recovering from her shock, she didn't struggle out of his embrace—she just pinched his waist hard, like a lioness on the hunt, and growled,
"You've got quite the imagination. But do you have what it takes to pull it off? I'll be testing you—just you wait."
Then, in an instant, Ange switched back to her gentle big-sister persona, stood up, and pulled Noin to her feet.
"Alright, Noin, no more indulging this playboy. He wants us to help Yulan and Yufang buy some women's essentials and clothes. Come on, let's go shopping. Yulan, Yufang, hurry up—this is your master's order."
Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang exchanged a glance before looking at Reid. Only after he nodded did they quickly follow Ange and Noin.
With the four gone, only Reid and Une remained in the office.
Une rose with a playful smile, sauntered over to Reid, and leaned down to whisper in his ear,
"What a delightful show. Master~~"
Without waiting for Reid to say anything, she turned and left the office as well.
Reid was startled by Une. Her soft whispers and the warm breath against his earlobe had been unexpectedly alluring. But what did she mean by that? He couldn't understand at all. Was she joking? Mocking him? Or was it one of life's three great misunderstandings?
No matter how much he thought about it, Reid couldn't figure out the meaning behind Une's words—not even after a whole day of pondering.
However, by nightfall, Reid no longer had time to dwell on Une's intentions. After the welcome banquet, Ange dragged him straight to her place—the first trial had begun.
This trial lasted three days and three nights straight. Even Xia Yulan and Xia Yufang, who were supposed to provide close protection for Reid, couldn't see him. Each time, he sent them to Une, asking her to help them find hobbies unrelated to warfare.
It wasn't until the scheduled test for the Immortal Aegis Project outside the Colony Satellite that Ange finally acknowledged Reid had passed her trial.
When Reid finally stepped out of Ange's room again, all he could think was—had the gravity settings in the Star Palace Colony Satellite malfunctioned? Why did it feel lighter? For a system-controlled base to have issues, it was truly unbelievable.
