"M-murderer! Don't fucking move!" An Ork scremed, his voice trembling, but Wise did the opposite of what he had said, he stood up.
'Damn it!' He cursed inwardly. 'Can my luck get any worse?'
There was no one that would walk in at this exact time and not think he was responsible for all the murders that had happened here.
Wise could not let them see his face no matter what. He had to find a way to make a clean escape.
He glanced at the counter at the side of the room, there was a wooden door there that was opened slightly, it would either lead to a back exist—
'Or a storage room.'
There was no way to tell and if he charged in he would be trapped inside the room.
If push came to shove, he could definitely take them all, but whether he could he do it while hiding his face was another question.
If they saw his face everything he had been working on would slowly crumble to pieces.
Wise bit the inner parts of his cheek.
'Why did the guards arrive here the same time I did?' He wondered
'Are they investigating a murder? Wouldn't that mean this isn't the first?'
If that was the case then they would have information crucial to helping Rosalind.
He could not just leave even if he found a way to.
'Shit.'
"I said don't move!" The captain screamed once more as he took a step forward, his hand resting on the hilt of his blade.
Wise could see them off the dim reflection on the glass cupboard but the light was bent in a way that they could not see him.
He was about to take a step towards the counter, when a dark object slipped out of his shirt… something he had forgotten up until now.
It was the mask he had bought earlier…
Wise immediately grabbed it before it fell, although he had bought it for just two bronze coins, right now it was the most valuable thing in his possession.
'Well damn, the plot armour is that fucking good!'
Within seconds, Wise placed the mask on his face and turned around to face the Ork that was now just a few feet away from him.
The man froze at the sight of it. The mask on his face was black, pitch black and fashioned in the design of what he could only call a demonized Ork.
Elongated fangs, a face locked up in a snarl and violent patterns.
Swish!
The man swiftly pulled out his blade from its sheath and pointed it forward. "W-who the hell are you? And what have you done?"
Wise thought about the question for a second before letting out a dark chuckle. The guards who had already been shifty due to the gory sight became even more anxious.
"Me?'
He had to think up a name right on the spot like he had done the last time but there was nothing good coming to mind, so he just blurted out the only thing he could think of.
"My name is Optimus…"
'Hey, that's pretty good!' Wise though as he deepened his voice further.
"…But you can call me Primus."
The man glanced at his colleagues behind before looking back at Wise. "Alright… Primus, you're coming with us on suspicion of mass murder."
'Suspicion? Aren't they acting a bit strangely?'
They found a number of dead bodies and a man in a black mask in the room and yet they were only suspecting him?
This was not the modern world where you were innocent before proven guilty. In the medieval times it was mostly dead before proven innocent.
'They probably know I'm not the killer…'
They were not dumb, from the injuries that the corpses bore, it was pretty much clear that he could not have done it.
'Then why arrest me?'
The likely case was that they wanted to squeeze him for information, since he was the only clue that he to work with.
"Suspicion?" Wise asked as walked toward the counter, the chief's eyes following him all the way.
He skillfully picked up two glass cups and placed them on the table.
'Where's the ice bucket?'
'Shit this is going to make me look bad!'
The Orks watched in confusion as the mysterious man frantically searched for something they could not discern.
"Aha!"
Click!
Two ice cubes were tossed into both glasses and Wise picked up a cocktail shaker.
'Let's see if I still remember how to do this. It can't be too difficult right?'
The Orks watched in awe as he skillfully tossed in a variety of drinks into the cocktail shakers.
The man was definitely someone with years of experience with working in bar, their note maker was already writing down the clues they had found.
That was what they thought, but in reality, Wise just tossed in a number of drinks based on pure impulse.
He clicked the cocktail shaker closed and began shaking his concussion.
The cocktail shaker opened with a pop and Wise poured the strangely pink liquid into the two glass cups.
He picked up the first one, slid up his mask a little and took a sip.
'God that's awful…'
He motioned at the next glass, offering it to the Ork captain. He had done it as a friendly gesture but to his surprise, the captain glanced around before walking past the pile of bodies to get to him.
To most it looked like he was just curious about the taste, but the detective was a smart man.
There were only a few bars in Teasei he had not visited, if this man was one of the barristers, he would find out by the taste of the drink!
—That was his excuse.
He picked up the glass cup and too a sip right before gulping the entire thing down.
A darkness nestled in his eyes. 'How is this so good!?' The captain thought.
Wise placed his half full glass on the table, noticing that the captain had emptied his own.
"Like it?" He chuckled. "It seems like you have quite a taste for murder."
The detective suddenly spat out the rememats of the drink that was already in his mouth. "What?!"
Wise stared at him blankly. "Oh… that is just the name of the drink."
The man coughed, his hand tightening on the glass. "You bastard…"
Wise stared at him from behind the mask, slightly confused. "So tell me Mr detective…" Wise began. "Who says I'm not the killer?"
'…'
There was no immediate reaction to his statement which confirmed Wise's suspicions.
"We'll find out what we need to know at our base."
Wise cocked a brow but no one could see it. He moved away from the table and stepped towards one of the bodies.
The chief was not worried about him escaping since there was no way out of the room save for the front door.
Wise stared down at the body before speaking. "A monster? A beast" He paused, and turned to stare at the chief. "Or a devil…"
The man's finger twitched slightly but his face remained stone hard. Still, Wise had already gotten all the information he needed.
There was a demon loose in the city, and it was quite a nasty one.
'I guess it's time I went demon hunting…'
He glanced at the chief. "We'll, we both know I didn't do it, so I'm going to take my leave now." Wise said, walking up to the door.
Suddenly, the guards formed up together, their swords lifted at the ready.
The chief took slow steps from behind him, slowly twirling his sword in the air.
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that."
"Oh?" Wise cracked his knuckles. "I was hoping you would say that."
