—Hazel—
I didn't go back to my room right away.
I sat in the damn hallway like an idiot, staring at the shut door that Ace had disappeared behind. My hands were clenched, but I didn't even feel them anymore. My heart was pounding so loud in my ears I could barely hear myself think.
He wasn't going to tell me anything.
That much was clear.
And the woman's voice—that scream—was going to live in my head forever.
I was shaking when I finally forced myself to get up and walk back to my room.
I slammed my door harder than I meant to, but I didn't care. I couldn't breathe properly. My throat felt tight, like if I tried to swallow I'd just choke on everything I hadn't said out loud before tonight.
The second I stepped inside, I locked the door and backed up against it like something might follow me in.
That's when I remembered it.
The diary.
The pages I took pictures of.
