Nascent Mind Shield

It took Silas ten minutes to become completely confident of hiding his thoughts. Instructor Juno was very accommodating in this regard. He gave Silas as much time as he needed. From this fact, Silas was sure that Instructor Juno was just here to amuse himself. He still wasn't sure if the Instructor could read his thoughts, but at least he was a little more confident.

The only problem was the consumption. This method of hiding his thoughts was incredibly constraining. If, before, Silas had the processing power of 100, he now only had 40 processing power. Of course, this ratio will get better as time passes.

After Silas was done, Instructor Juno continued as if nothing had happened.

"What we are is researchers. We are a group of people who have banded together to learn more and grow stronger in the process. And we know that you have the same goals as us.

But a single being has a limit on how far they can go. We banded together to break that limit.

As such, we are always looking for new and fresh minds to take us further on our journey."

Silas could get a lot of information from this speech. The most important thing for him was one that eased his worries slightly. It was the knowledge that the Keeper had not told his entire life story to Instructor Juno. He got this information from the undertones in Instructor Juno's speech. From what Silas understood about him, he is a strict and straightforward man with a kind heart.

If he doesn't purposefully want to lead Silas astray, he wouldn't hide information from him. And the fact that he 'told' Silas about the need for more people instead of 'reminding' him told Silas that he didn't know much about his previous life, at least.

Silas knew he was reaching, but this infinitely small assurance had to be enough for now.

He also learned about the core goal of the organization, and by coincidence, it met his needs exactly.

Silas refused to believe this was a coincidence. He knew that either he was a very lucky man or someone was helping him.

He didn't really believe the first reason, but the second reason presented a plethora of problems to Silas.

If he can be helped without his knowledge, he can be manipulated, too.

But Silas had no choice but to accept this help for now. Or perhaps he was only being paranoid, and he had actually gotten lucky.

Just as he promised to investigate this later, something miraculous happened. He forgot...

This was definitely a new experience for Silas, who had an eidetic memory. Unfortunately, he never found out. Perhaps if he did, he would have enjoyed the experience of forgetting.

Instructor Juno didn't give Silas time to finish his thoughts as he continued.

"Let's talk about your training. You have two choices. Either you can contact me, and we will set up a lecture, if you ever have any questions, or we can schedule regular classes, and I will take you through the subjects one by one."

Instructor Juno was Silas's instructor for all subjects. Now, Silas had to choose between learning independently and learning from Instructor Juno.

His curriculum could be divided into two: practical and theoretical.

The interesting part was that no theoretical subject had a class. It was left entirely to him.

Moreover, there was no exam for these subjects. So, it wasn't that Silas had to learn these subjects, but that he had the privilege of learning them. He was sure that other subjects beyond these would be inaccessible to him.

Also, all of the practical classes were divided into 'self' training - Discipline of the body, mind, and soul, and magical training.

Apart from the mandatory soul training, Silas had two other self-training classes. These were named physical training and fighting training classes.

Silas only knew that the mind palace resided in the soul, and that somehow made it dangerous. As for the specifics, he was not aware. This was the case for all the classes.

If Silas were still the king, he would have had whoever wrote the descriptions for the classes, in the timetable, shot.

Because all Silas found in the description were words that held little meaning to a non-mage.

Like all he knew about deep meditation was that it was a deep meditation—a class for discipline of the mind—that involved opening the mind's eye. As for what the mind's eye was, he didn't know.

'Who the f$ck writes like that? Is the writer purposefully pissing the newcomers off.' Silas yelled internally.

As for the magic studies practical classes, it was suggested in the timetable to take them after completing the magic theory. And he was planning to do just that.

Instructor Juno showed his usual patience and waited for Silas to make a decision.

Silas had no idea where to even start, so he naturally chose regular classes.

After Silas made his decision, his timetable updated itself.

The timetable showed that he had three classes daily, but there was no specific timing for these classes. The timetable only indicated that Silas's classes would start at eight in the morning. Plus, he would have to attend these classes daily. The only deviation from this routine was Sunday. There were no classes on Sunday; instead, the entire day was allotted to the library.

This was the weirdest timetable Silas had seen in his life. A timetable is supposed to indicate the 'time' of an event, not just write its name.

In any case, Silas now knew the three classes he would have to attend, namely: body training, mind training, and soul training.

Just as Silas was done checking out the timetable, he heard Instructor Juno's voice, "You are dismissed for today. You are encouraged to follow the timetable and visit all the faculties available at your stage. We will formally begin tomorrow."

The moment he finished speaking, he vanished.

Silas, too, stepped out of the classroom and made his way toward the training grounds, ready to begin his exploration.
