Chapter 148: Song Yang Is Mine!

What she said was true — under the Criminal Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China, female criminals enjoy the right to probation during pregnancy and for twelve months of breastfeeding. Huang Xiaotao said coldly, "That's the court's business. We're just here to make the arrest."

Qu Tingting held out her hands, waiting for the handcuffs. "Fine, I'll go with you."

I said, "Wait a moment."

Placing my fingers on her wrist, I checked her pulse carefully, then shook my head. "Sorry, you're not pregnant."

A pregnant woman's pulse is unique — it rolls like tiny beads. I'd checked this before; there's no mistake.

Qu Tingting's face went pale. "That's impossible! I clearly… with Doctor Cheng…"

I interrupted, "Even if you did, it doesn't guarantee pregnancy. You probably just have irregular periods — maybe from inhaling too many chemicals. If you don't believe me, we can take you to the hospital for an ultrasound."

Her tongue curled, and between her teeth appeared a small glass vial filled with a clear liquid — obviously poison she had prepared. "My life's already dark enough. I don't want to go to prison!"

We all froze. One bite of that, and she'd be dead.

Huang Xiaotao shouted, "Don't be stupid!"

...

...

Sun Bingxin stepped forward, voice firm, "Hey, if you die, who's going to make the antidote for Doctor Cheng? He'll die too."

Qu Tingting's eyes widened. Suddenly she spat out the poison, dropped to her knees, and covered her face, sobbing uncontrollably. Huang Xiaotao quickly cuffed her.

As Qu Tingting was pushed into the police car, Wang Dali sighed, "What is love in this world…"

Huang Xiaotao teased, "Alright, Casanova, get in the car!"

Wang Dali declined, "The vibe in your car's too awkward. I'll ride with Uncle Wang."

Once in the car, I muttered, "I don't get it. Why do women always fall for bad men?"

Sun Bingxin smiled and hooked her arm around mine. "You're wrong — women don't like bad men. They like men who stand out."

Suddenly Huang Xiaotao slammed on the brakes. Sun Bingxin's head hit the passenger seat with a thud. "What the hell!"

Huang Xiaotao ignored her and said, "Song Yang, my family made some dumplings. Come over tonight."

I felt awkward, unsure how to respond. Under her urging, I reluctantly agreed.

Sun Bingxin pouted. "No way! Tonight, Song Yang has to take me out to eat — you still owe me one!"

"Who do you think you are!"

"Who do you think you are?!"

The two glared at each other, then turned their backs. I realized this couldn't go on — I had to clear things up. Turning to Sun Bingxin, I said seriously, "Actually, Huang Xiaotao and I are…"

Huang Xiaotao's eyes lit up, waiting eagerly. But the words caught in my throat. We hadn't exactly defined anything — just close. Besides, Sun Bingxin was giving me a pitiful look I couldn't ignore.

So I settled on, "We're very close. You understand?"

Sun Bingxin sighed with relief. "So, it's not official yet! You remember when I confessed to you as a kid, right?"

Huang Xiaotao's eyes went wide.

I muttered, "Seriously? You're taking childhood make-believe seriously?"

Sun Bingxin lifted her chin proudly. "I'm serious!"

Huang Xiaotao sneered, "That's like the big red flower you got in kindergarten. Think you can still trade it for candy?"

Sun Bingxin linked her arm through mine. "Anyway, I, Sun Bingxin, hereby declare that Song Yang is mine!"

Huang Xiaotao grabbed her phone and dialed. "Yeah... she's with me... okay..." Then she handed me the phone, "Your dad's calling."

Sun Bingxin stuck her tongue out and laughed. "Quit fooling me!"

But through the phone came a booming roar from Sun Lao Hu, "Sun Bingxin! Who told you to follow the detectives?!"

Sun Bingxin frowned as she spoke for a long while. Even through the phone, Sun Lao Hu's booming voice echoed. Finally, she sighed, "Xiaotao, can you take me back to school?"

When we reached the medical university, Sun Bingxin got out. Before leaving, she said, "Song Yang, remember to call me."

Huang Xiaotao smirked, "Finally got this little troublemaker off our hands. Song Yang, remember to come over tonight!"
