Luna fell onto the floor while I was sent the other way. "What the-" I said out loud before grabbing Luna and placing her back on the couch. "Say, I were to believe your crazy story, right? Your story has so many holes. What happened to my father? Where were you? How were you able to find us now?" He got up. "I will answer all your questions, but first, we should attend to Luna tonight, at midnight, which is your and Luna's birthday. Your family comes from a line of people who draw energy from the moon, which gives you special abilities."
I laughed. "DUDE, YOU'RE INSANE! My mother abandoned us, magic isn't real, so like what? And you were not sent to protect us; you're kidnapping us, so you have to let us go." He nodded. "I will let you go. If by tomorrow night you and Luna get no abilities, then it will prove me wrong, right?" I scoffed. "Fine, if by tomorrow night Luna and I are abilitiless, you will let us go." So, Orion nodded and went to go tend to Luna. He grabbed a cotton ball and dabbed it on the back of her head to get some of the blood off. He put some medicine on it and then put a bandage over her head. Then he turned to me. "She has to wake up before you two get your powers. if not," he turned, looking at her. "I'm not sure how it would affect her powers." I leaned down next to Luna and picked up her hand. "Come on, Luna, you have to wake up!" But, nothing.
Orion looked at me, looking sorry for me. Then, I turned to Orion. "Wait, don't you have powers? Can't you heal her?" He shook his head. "I don't have those types of powers, I am a stonewalker." I chuckled a little, trying not to because it sounded so ridiculous. "A what now?" He smiled. "There are people who get their energy elemental energy like fire, ice, water, these are the most common types of powers to have. There are people who have arcane energy, which means they have pure magic, and then there are people like you who have bloodline power like me. I am from the stonewalker bloodline, and I have the power to create weapons from any stone anywhere. You and Luna, however, are the very last of the moonlight bloodline. You and Luna get your power from the sun. We do not know what ability you will inherit yet, but you two will be strong." I was a little bit confused. "So, our mom was an arcane?" I asked. He squinted. "Not exactly.
Your mother was a part of the moonlight generation, but her ability was magic; she was able to cast spells. There are people who are envious of your bloodline since it's very rare and powerful. This is why I had an arcane place a barrier around the house so nobody could get in or out without my say so. I will not fail in my mission to protect you and your sister." I looked down; This was a lot to take in. Orion noticed I looked tense and said, "Why don't you go upstairs and get some sleep? I'll watch over Luna." I quickly looked at him. "Hell no, I don't trust you with her! I'll be staying right here. Thank you very much." He smiled. "As you wish." Then, Orion went upstairs. I was surprised at how easy it had been. Orion came back down with a bag. I tilted my head, looking at the bag, wondering what it was for. He took something out of the bag and laid it out next to Luna. Orion then took a pump and started to blow it up, and that's when I realized it was a blow-up mattress. "You don't want to leave her side? That's fine, you can sleep on here." Then he sat down on a couch across from Luna. "You do realize you've kidnapped two minors, don't you?" I said, annoyed. "It's not kidnapping, this is what your mother wanted for you." I rolled my eyes and lay down.
I knew tomorrow would determine the rest of our lives. If he was lying, then nothing would happen; if he wasn't, our lives would change forever. I looked over at Luna, and her head looked like it was getting worse. I immediately sat up. "Orion, look at her head." Orion quickly walked over and took a look. Orion's silver eyes narrowed as he examined the wound. His usual calm expression hardened. "It's swelling," he muttered, brushing a hand near the bruise without touching it. I clenched my fists. "No kidding. She hit her head on the concrete." Orion exhaled sharply. "She needs rest. And ice." He stood up and disappeared into the next room, returning with a cloth-wrapped bundle. He knelt beside Luna and carefully pressed the cold compress against her head. She stirred slightly but didn't wake. I shifted uncomfortably. "She'll be okay, right?" Orion didn't answer right away. He kept his gaze on her, as if searching for something more than just the physical wound. Finally, he sighed. "She should be," he said, but there was something in his voice, doubt. That didn't sit right with me. "Should be?" I repeated, my stomach twisting. Orion got up and walked away, then turned around and pointed at me. "I'm serious, get some rest." I lay down and tried to rest, but, I couldn't stop worrying about Luna the entire night.
The next morning, I woke up to the front door opening and bags rustling. I sat up and saw that he had gone to the store and gotten food. I looked over at Luna, and she was still out. I rushed over to her to see if her head looked any better, and it most definitely did. I felt relieved; it looked like it was getting better. "Good morning," Orion said to me from the kitchen. I looked outside and realized that it was morning, and was surprised I had managed to get any sleep. Orion made toast for him and I. I looked up at him and asked, "How did you know this was my favorite?" He smiled, "I didn't, but it was your father's." I looked down, wondering if I should ask the question, and decided to ask. "You never did tell me what happened to him." He looked up at me in recognition. "I wish I could, but the thing is, I have no idea. Before you and your sister were born, we got an invite from one of the bloodlines to come and join them in celebration. Your mother and father knew that they had to go but your mother was pregnant and so she couldn't. Your father decided to go, and he never returned. I have no idea what happened to him, just that he never returned." I scoffed. "This is- this is ridiculous. I don't even know why I'm asking about them." I stood up and smacked the table, "DAMN IT THEY ABANDONED US! THEY LEFT LUNA AND ME TO SUFFER AT THE HANDS OF THOSE CARETAKERS," I put my head down. "I'm done, I'm just. Done." Then I walked over and sat back next to Luna. From the corner of my eye, I saw Orion shake his head and sit there.
