📖 Chapter 39 – The Anniversary & The Aftermath
POV: Dual – Ava & Julian.
Themes: Loyalty under fire, quiet celebration, identity vs. industry, power vs. passion
PART 1: ONE YEAR LATER (POV: Ava)
No fanfare. No hashtags. No gold-trimmed cake.
Their first wedding anniversary was celebrated like a secret — the way their love began.
Ava planned it in silence.
She blindfolded Julian in the hallway.
Led him down a familiar corridor.
When he opened his eyes —
They were in the abandoned music studio where Julian wrote his first ever song for her.
> "I thought you hated this place," he said.
> "No," she said. "I just hated how much it hurt when I couldn't have you."
---
AUDIO CONFESSION
She had recorded a message — a private audio file he found in the studio's sound booth.
> "You made me believe in permanence. In flame without burn. In silence that held me."
> "If the world still hates us tomorrow, I'll still be here — loving you like it's day one."
---
They made love slowly. On the floor. No rush, no tension — just heat and home and yes.
Later, Julian gave her a vinyl pressing of a new track.
> "Anniversary in Ashes."
Just her name, whispered three times in the chorus.
---
PART 2: THE INDUSTRY STRIKES (POV: Julian)
Three days later:
Julian got the call.
> "The label wants to drop you," Marina said quietly. "They say your 'image' is unmarketable."
He laughed bitterly.
> "So love is bad for sales now?"
> "Not love," she replied. "This kind of love."
---
THE DECISION
Julian had two choices:
1. Publicly 'clarify' his relationship as "past" and "over."
2. Lose his record deal, distribution, and most of his royalties.
Ava found him pacing their apartment that night, fists clenched.
> "Say the word," he told her. "And I'll walk away from it all."
> "I'd never ask you to choose me over music," she said softly.
He cupped her face.
> "I'm not choosing you over it. I'm choosing you instead of anything that erases you."
---
THE EMAIL
He typed it that night:
> "Your offer to 'sanitize' my brand is noted and declined.
I make music that's real.
And my marriage is the most honest thing I've ever created."
> "We're done here."
---
🔥 Chapter 39 Ends With:
Julian and Ava watching the city lights through the apartment window — jobless, relieved, reborn.
Ava rests her head on his chest.
> "You just gave up everything," she whispers.
> "No," Julian replies. "I gave up everyone who thought you were nothing."
And the city hums like it's always known they belong.
