Chapter 7

Susan didn't reply. She was just about to turn off her phone when, Ding, ding.

The special alert tone kept going off. Messages from Andrew popped up one after another:

"Susan, what kind of trick are you trying to pull this time?"

"Tomorrow is my wedding with Rebecca. Even if you really left will, even if you're terminally ill and die, nothing can stop us from getting married."

The glow from the screen lit Susan's calm face. She slowly typed a reply to Andrew:

"Don't worry. I'll be gone soon. You won't have to be bothered by me anymore."

After sending the message, she turned off her phone. Susan even made a special trip to a luxury car dealership to pick up a brand-new car, driving it flamboyantly back to the Fade.

Just as she parked and stepped out, she looked up, only to see Andrew striding toward her. His eyes were dark, and his voice came out urgent. "What do you mean by 'leaving'? Your parents and son are still in here. Where could you possibly go?"

Susan gave a soft laugh and brushed it off: "Just a casual comment."

"But don't worry, when I said I sincerely wish you and Rebecca a happy marriage, I meant it. I won't interfere with your relationship again."

Her expression was calm and serious. But the more Andrew listened, the more agitated he became. Still, no one knew better than him how deeply Susan had once loved him, there was no way she could really let go.

He paused, then said: "My parents asked me to bring you back to the Feynman Castle for New Year's Eve dinner. You did give birth to their grandson, after all."

"And you can stay the night. Tomorrow, we'll go to my wedding with Rebecca together."

Susan's expression turned blank: "No, thank you. It's the New Year. Let's not ruin everyone's mood."

Six years of marriage, and they had never invited her home. Now that she was about to vanish, they wanted to trample on her one last time just to lift Rebecca up. Andrew really knew how to make someone sick.

Susan was just about to walk away when a swarm of reporters suddenly surrounded her. Before she could react, cameras were in her face, and a microphone was shoved toward her.

"Susan, your parents just posted on X calling you an ungrateful, backstabbing woman who seduced your sister's boyfriend. What do you have to say?"

Susan replied flatly: "Nothing."

"Your son claims you abused him and now calls your sister 'Mom.' Were you aware of this?"

"I was."

"Mr. Andrew spent 300 million on a lavish wedding for your sister, are you jealous?"

Susan stared straight into the camera, enunciating clearly: "I wish them a happy life together."

"That's enough!"

Hearing her indifferent replies, Andrew was becoming increasingly agitated. He called over the front desk security and had the journalists forcibly out.

Once they were gone, his face had turned completely dark. "Susan, what you just said, if this is another one of your tricks, you'd better stop now."

Susan met his eyes, smiling effortlessly. "Brother-in-law, I meant every word."

Andrew froze. A flicker of panic flashed through his eyes, a tightness building in his heart. But he had no grounds to argue, he could only suppress the unease that was slowly consuming him. "Good. Then come home with me now for dinner."

As he spoke, he reached out to pull her along, but Susan lightly tossed her car keys in the air and smiled: "I'll drive myself. Just picked up this Maybach, half million."

Seeing she was willing to go to the castle, Andrew didn't say more. "Suit yourself. Just make sure to follow my car."

He turned and got into his black Maybach. Susan looked at his back, and her smile slowly faded. Of course, she had no intention of going to the Feynman Castle.

She didn't argue, because at that very moment, the system chimed in:

[Time remaining until host disconnects from this world: 00:10:00]

Ten minutes left. That was all.

Susan followed behind Andrew's Maybach. As they stopped at a red light, her phone chimed again. She opened it to see a new post from Rebecca:

"There's a long life ahead, and I'm glad I didn't miss you. @Andrew"

The photo showed Rebecca holding a marriage certificate, leaning into Andrew's arms.

Susan tapped open the comments, rows upon rows of blessings.

At the top of the comment section were messages from her parents and her son:

Mr. and Mrs. Cooper:

"May the lovers finally become family. Congratulations to our precious daughter on her wedding!"

Sam:

"Daddy and Auntie Rebecca are finally married! I have a new mommy now! She's the best mommy in the world!"

Susan chuckled softly and shut her phone.

At the same time, the system sounded again:

[Time remaining until host disconnects from this world: 00:01:00]

She looked up, taking one last glance at the tail of Andrew's Maybach. Then she turned her gaze toward the nearby sea, clear and endless.

A faint smile curved her lips.

After all, the system was taking her toward something new, a rebirth.

Susan unlocked her phone one last time, gave Rebecca's post a like, and published her final message:

"Goodbye, to this loveless world."

Then she stepped on the gas, and drove straight into the vast, endless sea.
