Zhu Ziyang never imagined he would be so incredibly lucky—yet so terribly unlucky—to encounter not just one, but two Starlight Unicorns.
Lucky, because the Starlight Unicorn was a perfect match for his Scythe of Silent Judgment. As the royal lineage among unicorns, these soul beasts possessed both light and divine attributes. Extremely rare, there were likely fewer than ten in the entire Star Dou Forest—and he had stumbled upon two at once.
Unlucky, because he was completely alone.
A single Starlight Unicorn with a cultivation over 30,000 years was already enough to go toe-to-toe with the Ghostmoon Python Emperor. Zhu Ziyang, a mere pseudo–Soul Ancestor, stood no chance.
He swallowed hard, staring across a dozen meters at the two majestic unicorns. All he could do was pray that the descriptions in the ancient texts were accurate—that these divine beasts were indeed gentle, peace-loving creatures who loathed violence. If not… he would have no choice but to rely on Electrolux to force another emergency escape.
"Ziyang, reveal your Ultimate Light,"
Electrolux's voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
"Huh?" Zhu Ziyang blinked, startled.
"Even if this world is different, unicorns everywhere are drawn to light," Electrolux explained. "Your Ultimate Light isn't just powerful—it's sacred. Let them feel it. If they sense your divine aura, they won't harm you. They might even help you find your companions."
"That's... hard to believe. They're still soul beasts, and I'm a soul master," he replied, skeptical.
"Heh. A unicorn's devotion to light goes beyond any petty hatred between beasts and humans," Electrolux chuckled.
"Well, it's worth a try," Zhu Ziyang muttered.
He took a breath and released a wisp of light.
The moment his Ultimate Light aura spread, the forest around him was bathed in pure radiance. In that dark, lifeless woodland, his light shone like a celestial revelation—sacred and untouchable.
The two unicorns slowly began to move.
Zhu Ziyang tensed, heart pounding in his chest. The large unicorn's gaze was intense—yet its eyes shimmered with something unexpected: reverence.
It stepped forward, its hooves silent. Zhu Ziyang didn't dare breathe.
Soon, both unicorns stood directly in front of him. The larger one's face was less than an inch away. He could feel its breath on his skin.
Then, to his utter shock, both unicorns knelt before him. Their proud heads bowed low, and their radiant, crystal horns glowed with ethereal light as they exposed their foreheads without a hint of defense—like two tame steeds submitting before their master.
"…What."
Zhu Ziyang stood frozen, stunned speechless.
"Touch its horn," Electrolux prompted calmly.
"R-right."
Zhu Ziyang moved mechanically, raising a hand and gently resting it against the large unicorn's horn.
The moment his fingers made contact, a soft glow surged outward. Then, a voice—gentle, feminine, and full of awe—sounded in his mind:
"Most noble Child of Light, the unicorn tribe of the Star Dou Forest bows before you!"
Zhu Ziyang's eyes widened.
"Teacher… you knew this would happen, didn't you?" he asked mentally.
"Hehe~ Just a hunch," Electrolux chuckled. "Unicorns are the same everywhere. When I was young, I too earned one's devotion. For us, Children of Light—those who possess Ultimate Light—unicorns are loyal companions without question."
"I… I see," Zhu Ziyang said with a wry smile. "What do I do now?"
"Accept it, of course," Electrolux said.
Zhu Ziyang turned to the kneeling unicorns.
"Very well. I accept your allegiance. Please, stand."
"Thank you, your Grace," the large unicorn replied joyfully. It rose to its feet and nuzzled Zhu Ziyang affectionately. The smaller one did the same.
Zhu Ziyang, dazed, couldn't help but ask,
"How did you find me?"
"Your light essence guided me," the large unicorn replied.
"???"
Zhu Ziyang blinked, bewildered. None of the texts he had read mentioned unicorns having this kind of ability. Then again, there were fewer than a hundred words of recorded history on them—maybe this was normal.
The unicorn bowed again.
"Honored Child of Light, have you come in search of a soul ring?"
Zhu Ziyang paused. He wanted to lie—but couldn't bring himself to deceive such a devout creature. So he remained silent.
"There is no shame in it," the unicorn said gently. "For a lesser soul beast to become part of your path is the highest honor imaginable."
Zhu Ziyang was moved. These creatures were truly too kind. And smart. And faithful.
"Yes," he finally said. "I've come to break through. My martial soul has reached its limit. I need a ring to move forward."
He summoned his Scythe of Silent Judgment, and the radiant light it emitted made both unicorns tremble with excitement.
"This is my martial soul," he said. "The Scythe of Silent Judgment."
"I can sense that you haven't yet reached the next rank," the large unicorn said, its voice full of hope. "May I… make a request?"
Zhu Ziyang blinked. "What do you want? If it's within my power, I won't refuse."
He was already prepared to give something up—perhaps a powerful artifact or rare medicine. But the unicorn's next words nearly made him collapse.
"I wish to become your soul ring."
Its eyes were wide, shimmering with pure devotion. Its tone was pleading, almost desperate—not out of fear, but hope.
"…What did you say?" Zhu Ziyang whispered, stunned. "Say that again?"
"I, the King of the Starlight Unicorns of the Star Dou Forest, humbly ask to become your soul ring!"
Zhu Ziyang nearly fell over. This was absurd.
This was only the second time something so unbelievable had happened to him—after receiving the soul ring of a 100,000-year beast through voluntary sacrifice.
"Ziyang," Electrolux warned,
"Don't refuse. Unicorns are proud. If their submission is rejected, they may fall to darkness and become Nightmare Beasts."
Zhu Ziyang clenched his fists.
"I want to accept… but your cultivation is too high. I can't absorb a ring over 15,000 years. If I try, I'll die."
"You need not worry!" the unicorn replied, eyes sparkling. "I will fully cooperate. Our kind is extraordinarily compatible with you. Age limit won't matter!"
"Then…" Zhu Ziyang swallowed hard. "Very well. I accept. May I ask… how old are you?"
"Thank you, Light-Blessed One!" the unicorn beamed. "I am fifty thousand years old."
"…Fifty thousand."
Zhu Ziyang felt like his soul left his body.
He couldn't even absorb half that!
"Don't worry," Electrolux reassured him. "I'll assist during the fusion. I'll draw upon the life essence from your first three rings to reinforce your body. That'll be enough."
"Then let's do this."
Zhu Ziyang nodded firmly. He turned to the unicorn.
"Are you ready?"
"I await your command," the unicorn said reverently.
"In that case…" Zhu Ziyang smiled.
"Would you be willing to help me find my companions first?"
"At once," the unicorn replied.
