Chapter 77: Frieren and Fern

Renji Kamisaka had never expected it. After opening the Monster Treasure Chest, it had actually vomited out two girls. And one of them was sitting right on his head. The touch of fragrance and softness made it hard for him to breathe.

So he spoke unconsciously, his voice a little muffled, "Get off..."

But he didn't expect the girl to shriek as soon as he touched her.

"Ahhh! I was licked by a Treasure Chest Monster!" The girl screamed hysterically, her voice shrill. "Fern, I'm not clean anymore!"

Under Renji Kamisaka's speechless expression, the white-haired girl with twin ponytails clamped her legs together tightly again, as if it were her last protection.

Oh God, he was almost suffocating. Although the touch was quite fragrant, Renji knew this was not a situation to be enjoyed. This girl didn't seem to be an ordinary human, with pointed ears that clearly weren't human ears.

"Woo woo woo!" Renji opened his mouth, trying to get his nose out of the encirclement of her legs so he could breathe.

The purple-haired girl, Fern, who had managed to climb to her feet, stared at the situation before her without a word. Seeing Frieren clamping a boy with her legs, and herself closing her eyes in a panic, Fern blushed with embarrassment and awkwardly said,

"Uh, Lady Frieren, could it be that what licked you wasn't a Treasure Chest Monster? But rather a man?"

"No way! It's a Treasure Chest Monster, it... it licked, oooo, it feels so strange." Frieren whined, still in a panic. "Fern, I'm not clean!"

Fern rubbed her forehead and sighed. "Lady Frieren, are you going to clamp someone to death? I'm having trouble touching you because I can't breathe?"

"Huh?" The panicked white-haired girl with twin ponytails was stunned. She subconsciously opened her eyes and looked down. She saw a boy sitting on the ground with her legs wrapped tightly around his head. Renji tried to spread his legs with both hands, but he couldn't do it at all. He could only breathe heavily and try to gasp for air. Because of her long skirt, she couldn't see Renji's face for a while.

"Ahhh! I'm sorry!" Frieren felt numbness in her legs... and quickly screamed and jumped up, then apologized to the man, her face still red.

Renji Kamisaka didn't have time to enjoy the sweetness just now. He sat up and gasped, taking a deep breath. "Finally alive!" Looking up, he saw a girl with white hair and twin ponytails wearing white adventurer's clothes, completely different from modern attire, and a girl with waist-length purple hair in a witch's robe staring at him in embarrassment.

Renji Kamisaka sighed, rubbing his stiff neck. "First of all, this is my house, my room." He gestured around. "My name is Renji Kamisaka." He paused, looking at the mess on the floor. "Also, although I don't know why you were vomited out of my Treasure Chest, it's already sticky here and we're all dirty." Renji pointed to the sticky liquid on the floor. "So, let's clean up first before negotiating."

"That's easy!" The beautiful girl with white twin ponytails and pointed ears raised her small hand and shook it. A staff inlaid with a ruby appeared in her hand, emitting a soft light. She pointed her staff at the ground, and under the gentle breeze, the slime on the ground, including the liquid on her body, quickly disappeared, as if it had never existed.

"This is magic that can clean the ground and body and remove all stains~" Frieren explained in a cheerful tone.

Renji Kamisaka touched his chin and nodded, impressed. "The ground is good, but your bodies still need a bath, come with me." After he finished speaking, he was the first to leave the room.

The two girls looked at each other. Frieren was the first to nod. "Fern, let's go, he doesn't seem like a bad person."

Fern sighed helplessly, picked up the box that had just fallen to the ground, and followed him.

Renji Kamisaka led the two girls to the bathroom and showed them how to use the showerhead and water heater, patiently explaining the functions of these modern items. He introduced them to shampoo and body wash, then left the washing area for them, giving them privacy. He himself went to the bathroom on the third floor, giving them time to get used to it.

Frieren and Fern looked at each other and immediately took off their adventurer costumes. Fern, with her more practical habits, used the items Renji Kamisaka had just introduced to squeeze out shampoo and wash Frieren's hair.

"Wow, there are so many bubbles, more than what I bought in the store before, and it smells really good too!" Frieren exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. "Fern, I'll help you wash your hair later!"

"Alright, but you can't use it to play, Lady Frieren!" Fern chided, though there was a faint smile on her lips.

"I know, I'm not that childish, okay!" Frieren pouted and rolled her eyes at her, yet her voice remained full of cheer. She's an elf.

However, Fern didn't feel calm at all. Now that I think about it, when I went into the labyrinth to find materials earlier, there was a Treasure Chest in the hall, which turned out to be a Treasure Chest Monster. Lady Frieren insisted on going to open it. As a result, she was eaten and spit out here. Fern shook her head slowly, recalling the details of the incident.

"Lady Frieren, why do I feel like something is wrong here?" Fern asked, her tone more serious.

"You just realized that there's no magic in the air here. I just used magic, but I can't replenish any magic at all," Frieren replied, her expression turning a little serious. Fortunately, she was an elf. So far, the magic reserves in her body were incomparable to ordinary people. This little bit of magic was nothing to her.

However, Fern's face turned pale. "No magic? Lady Frieren, what kind of place is this? A forbidden zone for magic?"

"What, who knows? Just ask that boy now and you'll know?" Frieren wasn't panicking at all. Instead, she bathed leisurely, enjoying the warm water. "The hot water here is so practical. What magical principle does this thing called a water heater use?" she mumbled, curious.

After bathing, Fern quietly opened the door and wanted to take out their clothes from their box. But she found two dresses already laid out on the chair near the door, and two clean pairs of underwear. Her cheeks flushed, she quickly grabbed them and went back into the bathroom.

"Oh, is this what that boy prepared? He's really thoughtful." Frieren praised.

"Wow, these are underwear! Lady Frieren, you're truly generous." Fern complained, but didn't deny that she acknowledged Renji Kamisaka's thoughtfulness.

Renji Kamisaka looked like an ordinary person, and she didn't sense any magic from him. And now, he was clamped on the head by Lady Frieren's legs, and he couldn't break free at all. He was just an ordinary boy. No threat.

So Frieren and Fern calmly accepted the clothes prepared by Renji Kamisaka.

After a while, in the living room, Renji Kamisaka sat across from the two girls, the atmosphere slightly awkward yet full of curiosity. Sayu Ogiwara served tea and snacks, her movements graceful but her eyes radiating irresistible curiosity. She didn't understand why there were suddenly two girls more beautiful than usual, and one of them had ears different from human ears? What was this, cosplay? Curious at heart, Sayu Ogiwara didn't ask, simply served the tea and left, leaving room for Renji Kamisaka to communicate.

"Uh, excuse me." Frieren took a sip of her tea, a faint smile on her lips. She smiled apologetically at Renji Kamisaka. "I am Frieren. As you can see, I am an elf and also a mage."

"I am Fern, Lady Frieren's apprentice. Mr. Renji Kamisaka, may I ask where this place is?" Fern asked, her voice more direct and serious.

Renji Kamisaka looked at them calmly, his eyes tracing the details of Frieren's clothes and pointed ears. He explained in a clear voice, "This is a world called Earth. As you can see, there is no magic in this world, only advanced technology." Renji Kamisaka gestured with his hands, showing his surroundings. "Although I don't understand why you came here, since you're already here, you'd better make the most of your time. Frieren and Miss Fern, you can stay in my Sakurasou first." Renji Kamisaka paused, looking at Frieren. "Also, since Miss Frieren masters magic, it's best to hide your ears when going out. There are no elves or other sub-human races in this world." He continued, his tone turning serious, "Although you can pretend to be role-playing enthusiasts, it will cause huge trouble if you're found out."

Hearing this, Frieren and Fern showed serious expressions, fully grasping the implications of Renji Kamisaka's words. They thought they were sent to a city surrounded by forbidden magic areas. I didn't expect that I wouldn't be in the original world. There was no magic in the air, so some perception magic couldn't be used.

"We have received your advice, thank you for your concern." Fern bowed slightly.

"Um, Mr. Renji Kamisaka, can we see the Treasure Chest you just mentioned?" Frieren looked at him expectantly, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Of course, come with me." Renji Kamisaka rose from his seat.

Upon reaching his room again, the two girls looked around with curiosity. Their eyes fell on the strange object on the desk.

"This is a computer, a very practical tool. Many daily necessities here are electronic devices, and the energy used is electricity. You'll know it later," Renji Kamisaka explained with a smile, seeing their astonished expressions.

"You clearly don't have magic, but you can use the power of thunder and lightning?" Frieren's eyes widened, a little disbelieving, pointing at the power outlet on the wall.

"This is the power of science." Renji Kamisaka explained casually, and led the two to his Treasure Chest. "This is my Treasure Chest." He patted the surface of the now ordinary-looking chest. "This Treasure Chest has a magical ability. You can put items in it three times a day. If you open it again, you'll get other items." Renji Kamisaka smiled mysteriously. "It's said that there's a chance to open a Monster Treasure Chest, so you can get more abundant items."

"Just now, I probably opened a Monster Treasure Chest, but I didn't expect the items I opened to be two girls," Renji Kamisaka concluded, with a teasing tone.

Frieren and Fern squatted down curiously and quietly touched the treasure chest, trying to sense its energy. "Why can't I open it?" Frieren asked, her hand trying to lift the lid.

"Because it can only be used three times a day, if you want to experiment, you can only wait until tomorrow." Renji Kamisaka explained.

Hearing this, Frieren felt a little embarrassed, her cheeks flushing. "Can you lend this to us?"

"It's alright. You might want to go back to your own home. I'm happy to help homeless girls, so don't worry. Just make use of it." Renji Kamisaka said kindly, his smile sincere. "However, this Treasure Chest is in my room and cannot be moved. If you want to study it, you can only come here directly."

What else could Frieren and Fern say? They could only look at him with deep gratitude, trapped in this new world, yet finding kindness from a stranger.
