Varian recalled the past; this woman had left a very deep impression on him. After Queen Tiffin's death, he had even fantasized about taking Katrana as his new queen. However, agents of SI:7 said that she seemed to be having close relationships with many nobles, so Varian suppressed the idea.
Varian looked at his youngest son, who was being held by the Countess, with hesitation and apprehension in his eyes.
Katrana squatted down, pointed at Varian, and said softly to the little prince, "Your Highness, isn't that the father you've been missing every day? Quickly call 'Daddy'!"
Having not seen his father for half a year, the little prince was a little unfamiliar with him. He looked at Varian timidly, opened his mouth, but still didn't make a sound.
"Come here, Anduin!" Varian was anxious, so his voice was a little stiff. He was afraid that Katrana would hold his son hostage. This was his only bloodline.
But his expression frightened the little prince even more. He retreated backward, wanting to hide behind Katrana.
"Your Majesty, you've frightened him!" Katrana scolded gently, immediately comforting Anduin in a low voice. She was like a competent nanny, without any flaws.
Varian hesitated greatly. Could she really be the Black Dragon Princess?
Aiden said, "His Majesty Varian is a little worried about the Burning Legion's invasion, so he's a bit anxious."
Varian knew that he was helping him smooth things over, so he immediately said, "Yes, I was a little Gaffe, please forgive me for the display."
"It's only natural." Aiden smiled.
Varian wanted to ease the atmosphere in the hall, so he introduced Aiden to his ministers: "Everyone, this is His Excellency Aiden, the head of the Valoran Federation. He is here to help us. The Burning Legion is approaching, and we need to retreat to the safe new continent immediately!"
Duke Bolvar Fordragon and Countess Katrana bowed to Aiden, and Archbishop Benedictus also nodded in greeting.
Katrana looked at Aiden and said with a reverent tone, "So you are the famous Excellency Aiden! Your great name has spread to the Stormwind Kingdom. I heard that you and your country have contributed greatly in the fight against the Scourge and the Burning Legion. You are as young as our King, truly remarkable!"
Her tone was sincere, without any hint of hypocrisy or flattery, and she subtly praised both leaders at the same time.
Aiden said, "I'm just doing what I can." He squatted down, stretched out his hand to the little prince, and said with a kind smile, "Little Prince, look what this is?"
In his palm were candies and chocolates, genuine local products from Earth, beautifully and attractively packaged.
"Candy!" Anduin's eyes lit up.
"Call me uncle and I'll give them to you!" Aiden encouraged.
Anduin looked up at Katrana, wanting to ask for her opinion. "Call him quickly, Your Highness. This is a hero just like your father!" the Countess encouraged.
"Uncle!" Anduin immediately called out sweetly.
"Oh, what a good boy!" Aiden's face was full of smiles. He beckoned to the little prince, "Come here, the candy is yours!"
Anduin cheered and trotted over. Aiden didn't break his promise and gave him all the candy. Anduin was extremely happy and willingly called out "Uncle" twice more.
Seeing that his son was safe, Varian finally breathed a sigh of relief. A layer of cold sweat broke out on his back. In just half a year, Anduin had almost forgotten his father and was so close to Katrana instead. This made him a little jealous and worried. If something really happened to him, this woman would probably easily seize the power of Stormwind.
Aiden winked at Varian, who understood and had the maid take the prince away.
"We need to discuss some confidential matters." Varian waved his hand again to have the guards in the palace withdraw. As the gates of Stormwind closed, the atmosphere here suddenly became heavy.
Duke Bolvar thought it was about the retreat, so he immediately said, "Your Majesty, I have received your order to retreat. But do we really need to be so afraid of the Burning Legion? The Stormwind garrison hasn't even engaged the demons in direct combat. If we retreat like this, it will inevitably demoralize the army. Moreover, a national retreat is very difficult, and it may take us months to prepare everything. I hope you can reconsider this matter."
"I know that retreat is not easy, but we don't have a few months. We may not even have half a month. But we must do it." Varian said in a deep voice, he looked at Katrana, "But now there are two more important things that need to be resolved immediately. I have invited Excellency Aiden and Archmage Anna for this very matter. Now, please, everyone, do not act rashly."
The atmosphere in the hall became serious and strange because of Varian's words—do not act rashly—was he going to arrest someone?
"Please forgive me for overstepping." The white-haired Anna stepped forward and looked directly at the Countess: "Katrana Prestor, or should I call you Onyxia?"
Katrana frowned and asked blankly, "Who are you? What are you talking about? I don't understand what you're saying. What does this mean?"
"Do you want me to expose your disguise myself, or will you reveal your true form?" Anna raised her staff and looked at her coldly, "Black Dragon Princess Onyxia, daughter of Deathwing, let's settle this!"
Katrana shouted, "What are you talking about, what Black Dragon Princess, what Deathwing, are you out of your mind, witch!"
She then turned her gaze to Duke Bolvar and the other people of Stormwind, and finally to King Varian: "Your Majesty, are these people suspecting me?"
"Stubborn!" Anna snorted coldly and was about to cast a spell.
"Your Majesty, isn't such an accusation a bit too absurd!" Bolvar stood up and pointed at Anna's words with some indignation, "Countess Prestor has worked hard for our Stormwind for many years. During your Northern Expedition, she even excellently curbed the infiltration of the Defias Brotherhood, solved the hidden dangers of the Redridge Mountains orcs, and led troops to drive away the demons around Lakeshire. How can you believe such a wizard of unknown origin and suspect a noble who has made great contributions to the kingdom?"
"Stand over there, Bolvar, stay away from the Countess. Let them speak." Varian said in a deep voice, seeing Anduin's dependence on the Countess and Bolvar's anxious defense, he was even more convinced that Katrana harbored ill intentions.
Aiden said, "Duke Bolvar, she can handle the orcs in Redridge Mountains because her brother Nefarian controls Blackrock Spire; and she can curb the Defias Brotherhood because she controls and instigated the riots of the Stonemasons Guild. Queen Tiffin's death is inextricably linked to her. Are you sure you want to defend her?"
"Your Excellency, where is the evidence?" Bolvar stared at Aiden and asked in a bad tone.
"You will see the evidence soon." Aiden nodded and signaled to Anna.
He and Kayle and several other heroes surrounded Katrana, preventing her from suddenly attacking. The others were on guard against the surrounding royal guards—in Aiden's memory, these guards had been replaced by Black Dragonmen by Katrana. These Black Dragonmen transformed into human appearances, guarding their princess.
Anna then chanted an obscure and difficult-to-understand spell. The people next to her didn't know what these languages meant, but Katrana knew very well—this was the language of the Dragon race!
These people came prepared!
The spell carried magical power, causing Katrana's body to twist and deform, quickly revealing her true appearance—under the unbelievable gazes of the Stormwind people, she turned into a huge black dragon! That huge body almost occupied half of the hall!
"The truth is out." Aiden said softly.
Varian felt relieved. If Katrana hadn't revealed her true form at this time, his prestige would have faced unimaginable challenges. People would question him and oppose him. Fortunately, Aiden and Anna didn't lie to him.
He felt a little angry, unable to imagine that he and the noble ministers of Stormwind had been played around by a black dragon. He had even fantasized about marrying Katrana—thinking that he almost shared a bed with a black dragon, Varian couldn't help but feel a chill down his spine. Then he became extremely angry. It was this black dragon that caused the death of Queen Tiffin and corrupted the politics of Stormwind, leading to the Stonemasons Guild's rebellion!
Onyxia, having revealed her true form, no longer needed to hide anything, but roared angrily: "Very well, you disturbed me before I had enough fun. Then who gave you the courage to provoke the Black Dragon Princess, mortals!"
She shouted to the surrounding guards: "Dragon soldiers, tear them apart! Quickly!"
The surrounding royal guards instantly transformed into Dragonman warriors, roaring and rushing over with weapons.
"Hmph, understand your situation, mortals!" Onyxia snorted coldly and pounced on Anna, who was closest to her.
"I'm afraid it's you who doesn't understand your situation!" Anna snorted coldly. The staff in her hand suddenly slammed into the ground, and a Nova of Frost spread out, freezing all the Dragonman soldiers in place.
Aiden summoned his weapon, holding the Silver Judgment, and rushed towards the Black Dragon Princess together with Kayle.
"Die, Black Dragon!"
Varian drew his long sword and rushed up. General Windsor held up a shield to protect his king. Even Archbishop Benedictus used Holy Light spells to attack the Dragon soldiers. Only Duke Bolvar stood there in a daze. In these short two minutes, he witnessed the most unacceptable scene of his life. Right before his eyes, the Countess he admired and loved, the knowledgeable and capable Countess, turned into a black dragon!
In addition to Kayle, Aiden also brought two powerful heroes, Weapon Master Jax and War God Pantheon. Such power was more than enough to deal with the Black Dragon Princess.
