Chapter 20 – The Killfeed Coup

Global Esports Network – Breaking News Broadcast

The anchor stared straight into the camera, her voice trembling with urgency.

"We interrupt this stream to report an unprecedented incident. In the last 24 hours, over 300 professional PUBG killfeeds have shown a new tag:#[HUNTER] - linked to Ji Corporation's controversial AI-enhancement program."

Clips rolled behind her, killcams showing impossible reflexes, players executing pixel-perfect flicks, and emotes delivered with chilling robotic timing.

"Players across North America, South Korea, and Europe are demanding an emergency suspension of Ji-sponsored teams... until investigations prove these players are fully human."

Scene – LuTech Esports HQ, Shanghai

Reign threw his phone on the table.

"Thirty-six leagues have already gone dark. Brands are pulling out."

Wanqing rubbed her temple. "Every ranked match is tainted. People don't know who's real anymore."

Mayhem pulled up a live data tracker. Red markers blinked over every major PUBG league.

"JiCorp's HUNTER protocol went live two nights ago. And now… the entire esports ecosystem is fracturing."

Meanwhile – Ji Corporation, Private Conference

Madam Ji stood before a table of sponsors and executives, presenting numbers:

23% increase in viewer retention during HUNTER-tagged matches

41% increase in betting markets tied to AI-led players

Global trending topics: #GameOrMachine, #LetThemPlay, #BanTheBots

"Emotion," she said coldly, "is not a metric. Viewership is."

One sponsor raised a question. "But the audience is revolting. Players are threatening boycotts."

She didn't flinch.

"They'll come back. People don't watch for fairness. They watch for dominance."

Scene – Secret Discord Server: "GHOSTS"

Reign and Wanqing joined a live audio room with dozens of top players, streamers, coaches, and even ex-Ji engineers.

"We need a clean slate," said one Korean team leader."A no-AI league," added a French caster."Human-only duos, verified lobbies, raw stream overlays."

Someone suggested a name:

"Project Killfeed."

Its goal: to publicly challenge the best HUNTER teams... and beat them on stream in manual-only, AI-free settings.

The Betrayal

Back in their hotel suite, Reign scrolled through his DMs.

A message from an unknown contact appeared:

From: MirrorAce"You want to stop JiCorp? Then start with your father. He funded the first prototype.Your instincts aren't your own."

His chest tightened.

"What…?"

Flashback – 12 Years Ago

A younger Reign sat in a hospital room beside his unconscious mother. Outside, his father, Mr. Lu Zemin, owner of LuTech, was arguing on the phone.

"Yes, I gave JiCorp the reflex data from our early military sim trials. My son's input logs are included. I don't care, I want results, not a conscience."

Reign's world cracked that day.

And now, that ghost from the past had returned.

Final Scene – Wanqing's Apartment Balcony

Reign stood silently, staring at the message on his phone.

Wanqing joined him, brushing her fingers gently against his.

"You alright?"

He didn't answer.

Just looked out over the city.

"My father built this war.I think it's time I finished it."
