Chapter 4

Cheng Wang's gaze fell on my wedding ring, his voice mocking.

"Don't indulge in sentimental thoughts over objects like this in the future. If others see it, they'll think it was all my fault."

My hand froze, and I turned my head to look at him:

"Don't worry, it won't happen again."

With that, I pulled off the ring that had almost become part of my being, and threw it into the trash can.

Just as resolutely as when I had put it on back then.

Cheng Wang instinctively moved his left hand toward the ring's direction, then restrained himself.

Hesitating, he glanced at me: "Mom... how is Auntie's health?"

A bit of resentment rose in my heart, and I said coldly:

"Thanks to you and your girlfriend, not good for the time being!"

When the trouble at home first started, my mom happened to be hospitalized due to a spinal disease.

Dad specifically instructed that we shouldn't let her know about the family issues and should let her focus on recovery.

But unexpectedly, someone sent her a few photos of Cheng Wang and Ruan Qing.

There were candid shots of them playfully wrestling on grass.

And there were images of them in a hotel bed, scantily clad, intimately leaning against each other looking at the camera.

My mom had just finished her first surgery, and after seeing the photos, she fainted from anger.

She was rushed into the emergency room.

By the time I braved the storm to get to the hospital, she was already in the ICU.

I stayed at the hospital for seven days and when the nurse handed me my mom's phone to check, my disappointment with this marriage reached its peak.

I didn't ask who sent the photos because we both knew very well it was Ruan Qing's doing.

He stood before me, guilt flashing across his face for the first time.

I found it amusing.

Now he feels guilty, but back then, they didn't feel a shred of remorse.

When I flung the photos in his face, he even defended Ruan Qing, saying she didn't mean to, it was just an accident that she sent them.

I didn't want to get involved with him any longer, and as I was about to leave with the porridge, he spoke up:

"I'll... go with you."

"No need," I replied coldly, "Just keep your new lover in check, and make sure she never brings such disgusting stuff in front of my mom again."

Cheng Wang's face changed subtly, his voice also turning cold, "She's not as malicious as you think."

"Not malicious? If she weren't malicious, would she have used those photos to provoke a sick elderly woman?" I sneered, "Do you expect me to praise her for being kind?"

Cheng Wang clenched his fists tightly, anger flaring in his eyes.

In all the years I've known him, I've always been the one to lower my posture.

This was the first time I spoke so harshly.

Furious, Cheng Wang turned and went upstairs, commanding Yanyan on the couch, "Stop watching and go study now, or I won't let you see Qingqing's mom again if you fail!"

Yanyan dared not disobey him.

Reluctantly, he cleaned up and went upstairs, his eyes lighting up as he saw me.

"You, come and help me with my homework."

I ignored him, pretending not to hear.

I used to be accommodating to him almost in every way, and this indifference now irritated him.

He charged at me in frustration, grabbing and clawing at me with his little hands.

"Can't you understand human language? I want you to help me with my homework! Help me with my homework!"

"Are you doing this on purpose so I can't see Qingqing's mom? You're a bad woman, a bad woman!"

He screamed and shouted, pulling down my thermos and throwing it violently to the ground.

The lid of the thermos flew off, and the boiling porridge splattered everywhere, much of it landing on me.
