Chapter 2

My sister Ai Yaoyao and I live in the same neighborhood; I bought her house for her.

At the time, my husband said that she had been abandoned by a jerk and was raising her child on her own, which was difficult. So, why not bring her and Yangyang from our hometown?

I saw my sister looking pitiful and weary, and my husband's suggestion was indeed very good.

Hanhan would have another playmate, and it would be convenient for my mother-in-law to take care of two kids, saving trips back and forth between two places.

So, without saying a word, I agreed with my husband's suggestion and even spent my own money to buy her a new house in the neighborhood.

I was responsible for everything from the decoration to the utilities and property management of this house.

Why does my sister leave a perfectly good new house and choose to live in my home?

There must be something odd about this!

To find out the truth, I bought a plane ticket home that night.

I arrived home at eight in the evening. My husband wasn't there, only my mother-in-law with the two kids.

Suppressing the doubts in my heart, I fairly distributed the snacks I brought home to my nephew and daughter.

Hanhan, as always, was greedy, opened her favorite box of chocolates, and happily dug in.

Before I could react, Yangyang, who had just finished his share next door, suddenly snatched the candy box away.

My mother-in-law laughed beside them, "Oh my, Yangyang is so clever! His box is gone, and he knows to grab the new one."

I was stunned, "He's grabbing Hanhan's share!"

But my mother-in-law didn't care at all, "What's the big deal about grabbing chocolate? If they finish it, just buy more for them, won't you?"

"This isn't about buying or not, it's about fairness."

Once he's finished, he's finished. Why should he snatch Hanhan's?

I wasn't going to indulge him. I snatched the candy box back for my daughter.

Yangyang was taken aback, and immediately sat on the ground, rolling and crying.

My mother-in-law was heartbroken for him, hurriedly picked him up to comfort him, and complained about me.

I stated that it was the rule, and my mother-in-law huffed without saying a word.

Yangyang stubbornly kicked and glared, insisting on snatching the candy box back!

Hanhan was frightened, clutching the candy box with her head down, too scared to take a bite.

"This is yours, sweetheart. Eat as much as you want, no one can take it from you."

I held Hanhan in my arms, opened the candy box, and fed her by hand.

Hanhan carefully licked at it, and her tense expression finally relaxed.

"Is it good?" I asked.

"Yes. It's very sweet."

My daughter's little face blossomed into a smile again.

Yangyang got so upset that he cried and screamed, and while I was chatting with Hanhan, he frantically lunged over, grabbed the candy box, and was about to raise it high to throw to the ground!

"If you dare throw it," I glanced lightly and softly said, "I'll toss you just like you toss the candy."

Yangyang was spoiled, and no one had ever dared to be stern with him.

He glared and cried out twice, holding the candy box but dared not make another move.

I put my daughter down gently and said, "Go ahead, take it back."

My daughter was very afraid of him, hesitated a bit, but walked over and retrieved her candy box.

I couldn't understand, how in just half a year, had my daughter become so timid?

Even my mother-in-law seemed to have become a different person.

Before, she used to hold my daughter and tell her stories, even washing her hands several times before feeding her.

Because she did a lot of farm work when she was young, her hands had many cracked wounds and calluses.

She was afraid of scratching Hanhan's delicate skin with calluses and specifically wrapped her fingers round and round with tape.

Now, only a year later, everything was completely different.

All her affection was given to Yangyang, and she couldn't even be bothered to glance at Hanhan!

Unfortunately, Yangyang didn't appreciate it. Since he couldn't hit me, he vented all his anger on my mother-in-law.

I didn't care for them, I held my daughter and went back to the room.

But to my surprise, I found the room full of Yangyang's clothes.
