Chapter 94: Possession!

Hiss… Is it really that simple?

Looking at the Golden-Armored Divine General's dead-serious expression, Lin Yun immediately spotted the catch.

He had faced all sorts of powerful enemies on his journey from the Meta-Realm. It was the kind of place where one careless mistake could get you killed. But now, in the Chaos Forbidden Land, the solution was this easy?

Was this a joke?

He walked over to the central platform and fiddled with it a bit. "That's all there is to it?"

The Golden-Armored General snorted. "Consider yourself lucky that I am still here, guarding this place. You saw those exotic beasts outside, didn't you? They want to break through. My duty is to protect everything here."

He seemed quite proud of himself as he said this.

Lin Yun continued to probe. "I see. I heard that after the expeditionary force was defeated, the Grand Marshal, fearing a loss of control, established a forward outpost. This must be it, right?"

The General nodded. "I didn't expect a boy like you to be so knowledgeable."

A cold smile touched Lin Yun's lips. Heh, you little punk, I've got you now, haven't I?

He took two steps closer, his gaze sweeping over the Golden-Armored General. He couldn't see any of his stats. This guy's strength was likely far greater than his own.

According to my panel, I'm supposed to be killed by the 'Ezu,' Lin Yun muttered to himself. And there are no other living creatures here to attack me. By that logic, this Golden-Armored General right here must be the legendary Calamity Ancestor.

Adding that to the guy's clumsy lies, even an idiot would know there was something wrong with this platform.

This has to be a formation seal, he deduced. And it seems to be suppressing something underneath it. Perhaps that is the real reason the Chaos Forbidden Land exists.

He glanced at the other golden-armored statues surrounding them. They stood in various poses, but from their eyes, Lin Yun could see a look of grim determination, of viewing death as a return home. It was as if these men had used their last ounce of strength to forcibly seal some powerful entity.

His intuition screamed at him: the General before him was the Calamity Ancestor. Even if it wasn't his true body, it had to be connected to him. He just couldn't figure out why this version seemed like such a weakling. His initial worry about not being a match for the Ezu was now completely gone.

"What are you muttering about?" the General asked impatiently. "If you want to leave this place, now is your chance. The beasts outside likely haven't informed those other, more troublesome ones yet."

Lin Yun was in no hurry at all. You want me to open it? I'll do the opposite.

"What troublesome ones? I saw plenty of exotic beasts on my way here. Do they want to leave this place too?"

The Golden-Armored General looked at Lin Yun, a hint of desperation in his voice. Are you going to get out or not? Why are you asking so many damn questions? He had thought this newbie would be easy to fool, but he hadn't expected the boy to be so chatty. This was not part of the plan. He just wanted to get this over with. Was that so difficult?

"This is the only way to leave the Ancient Forbidden Land," he said, trying a different tactic. "This world is about to end. Many beasts are trapped here, and their only fate is death."

Although the General hid it well, Lin Yun accurately caught the flash of sorrow in his eyes.

What to do? He definitely couldn't touch this platform.

"If this world is about to end, how come I've never heard anyone mention it?" he asked innocently. "Senior, why don't you come with me? We can leave this place together."

As he spoke, he reached out and grabbed the General's wrist. "My vital energy alone definitely won't be enough. But if Senior joins me, we can surely do it."

The Golden-Armored General tried to pull away, but Lin Yun even used his movement technique to stick to him.

"Enough!" the General roared. He glared, rebuking him with righteous indignation. "What do you take this for? A game? It is my mission to guard this place."

Lin Yun pouted. "Fine, don't go then. Why are you being so fierce?"

The Golden-Armored General returned to his seat. "I have told you the method. Whether you leave or not is up to you. This General will not meddle in your affairs."

Lin Yun celebrated internally. It seemed there was a trick to this platform; not just anyone could touch it. If he could get this guy to touch it, he might figure out how to solve the problem.

For the next few days, Lin Yun went into full salted fish mode. When he had nothing to do, he would simply sit to the side and cultivate, not a hint of urgency on his face. The Golden-Armored General, on the other hand, having declared he wouldn't meddle, couldn't bring himself to rush Lin Yun. But every time he looked at the boy, his eyes betrayed his growing frustration. How can this kid be so damn patient?

After a few more days passed like this, the General's patience was wearing thin. But he couldn't actually do anything to help.

Then one day, Lin Yun suddenly announced he was leaving.

The Golden-Armored General was overjoyed. My little ancestor, you've finally come to your senses!

He watched as Lin Yun placed his hands on the platform and carefully injected a sliver of vital energy.

BOOM—

A tremor ran through his body. A terrifying suction force erupted from the platform. If Lin Yun hadn't stopped in time, a huge amount of his vital energy would have been passively absorbed. He had to admit, this formation was incredibly powerful.

"What's going on?"

The General watched as Lin Yun injected a 'large' amount of vital energy, yet the platform showed no reaction. He began to suspect the thing was broken. That shouldn't be possible. Even after tens of thousands of years, it should have been unaffected.

The moment the Golden-Armored General moved closer to inspect it, Lin Yun suddenly flashed to the side. Then, with a great heave, he shoved the General onto the platform.

The entire Chaos Forbidden Land trembled. A terrifying beam of light erupted from the platform, sending the Golden-Armored General flying. His body traced an arc through the air before crashing heavily to the ground, motionless.

He's dead? Lin Yun frowned. He shouldn't have been that fragile. A guy who could survive here for so many years ought to have been a formidable opponent.

Lin Yun summoned his Frigid Flame Sword. His intention had been to seriously injure the General, not kill him. After all, there were no other living things in this place. He couldn't very well ask the statues for directions, could he?

He nudged the General's body. "Hey, Senior, are you alright?"

"Senior, I'm leaving now, okay?"

Lin Yun poked and prodded for a long time, but the General remained still. He sighed. It seemed hopeless.

Then, he glanced at his own panel.
