While Mikey hesitated, his older brothers' expressions grew stern.
"Mikey, you need to understand," Sparky said, his voice laced with disappointment. "You're going to be a trainer soon. Do you honestly think an unevolved Eevee can win its first battle?"
"We all evolved our Eevee for our first battles," Rainer chimed in. "It's the key to victory."
"That's right," Pyro agreed. "We won all the way because of it."
"I… I don't think battles are what matters…" Mikey stammered, his voice barely a whisper.
"Too naive!" the three brothers scolded in unison, and their Pokémon—a Jolteon, a Vaporeon, and a Flareon—all echoed their masters' sentiments with assertive cries.
"As older brothers, you shouldn't force your ideals onto him," Red said, his voice cutting through their lecture. He could see the obsession in their eyes; this wasn't about Mikey's success, but about proving that their own chosen evolution was the strongest.
"You're right, Professor Red," Sparky conceded immediately. He wouldn't dare argue with the world-renowned Pokémon Professor standing before him.
"Look at Ash's Pikachu," Red said, gesturing to the yellow mouse, who was happily licking ketchup off his paws. Pikachu looked up, confused. "At the Vermilion Gym, Ash's Pikachu defeated its evolved form, Raichu. That proves evolution isn't the only path to strength."
"I didn't realize this Pikachu was so exceptional," Sparky said, his eyes widening in surprise. He had clearly underestimated it.
"No, it was all my big brother's training!" Ash said, blushing and scratching the back of his head as the brothers turned their admiring gazes on Pikachu.
"If Mikey doesn't want to choose one of our forms, he can still consult your paper, Professor," Sparky offered, relaxing his stance slightly but still clinging to the idea of evolution. "He can choose any form he likes."
"Actually…" Mikey began, stomping his foot in frustration. They were completely missing the point.
"Sparky," Red said, his voice firm. "As the eldest, I will battle your Jolteon. I will use my Eevee to prove that she possesses strength comparable to any of her evolved forms."
Seeing the brothers were still fixated on evolution, Red decided a practical demonstration was the only way to get through to them and encourage Mikey to stand by his own convictions.
"I understand," Sparky replied, a flicker of suspicion in his eyes as he glanced at his downcast younger brother. "Since it's a challenge from Professor Red, I would never refuse."
'Could it be,' he thought, 'that Mikey doesn't want Eevee to evolve at all?'
"The battle will be between Red on the red side and Sparky on the green side!" Brock announced, stepping into the center of the field to act as referee. "Each side will use one Pokémon. The match is over when one Pokémon is unable to battle. Begin!"
"Jolteon, use Pin Missile!" Sparky commanded.
"Eevee, break through with Swift," Red said calmly.
Eevee, also possessing the Adaptability ability, unleashed a storm of golden stars. The two attacks met, but the powered-up Swift instantly overwhelmed the Pin Missile and slammed into Jolteon.
"How is this possible?!" Sparky exclaimed, unable to comprehend how a mere Eevee could overpower his Jolteon.
"Mikey," Red said, his voice deep and resonant, "ideals must be upheld. Don't let temporary confusion make you doubt your true intentions."
Mikey nodded, his eyes suddenly filling with a steely resolve. He shouted at his brothers, his voice clear and strong for the first time. "Brothers! I don't want Eevee to evolve into any form! I just want to be his trainer, just as he is!"
"So that's it," Rainer murmured, a look of understanding dawning on his face.
"It's alright, Mikey," Pyro said with a relieved smile. "The choice is yours. We were only offering advice. If this is your ideal, we'll support you."
"Professor Red, thank you," Sparky said, a look of profound gratitude on his face. "You helped Mikey find his courage. I never imagined the boy who was always too afraid to speak his mind would tell us his true feelings today."
He and his two brothers bowed deeply to Red in unison.
"It's nothing," Red replied. "I look forward to seeing what Mikey achieves. But for now, let's continue the battle."
"Right! Jolteon, Thunderbolt!"
High-voltage electricity erupted from Jolteon's body, snaking across the field toward Eevee.
"Use Dig."
Eevee vanished underground, easily avoiding the attack. She then burst from the ground directly behind the startled Jolteon and struck with a powerful Quick Attack.
"Press the advantage. Swift," Red commanded.
Eevee swung her tail, and another barrage of star-shaped energy waves battered Jolteon, draining its stamina and forcing pained cries from the electric Pokémon.
"Jolteon, hang in there! Use Thunderbolt again!" Sparky yelled urgently.
"Iron Tail into the ground," Red said calmly.
Eevee's tail glowed white and stabbed deep into the earth. The high-voltage current coursed through her body, but she expertly channeled it harmlessly into the ground, completely neutralizing the attack.
"Hey, that's my move!" Ash declared proudly, a wide grin spreading across his face. "I can't believe my big brother learned something from me!"
"Ash, I think your nose is growing," Brock teased.
"You really do get carried away easily, Ash," Misty sighed, shaking her head.
"Let's end this," Red announced. "Take down!"
"Bui!" Eevee cried, charging forward with astonishing force and momentum. She crashed into Jolteon, sending it flying into the center of a nearby pond, where it floated with swirling eyes, unable to battle.
"Jolteon is unable to battle! The winner is Red!" Brock declared.
"I can't believe an Eevee has such strength…" Sparky said in awe.
The victorious Eevee leaped joyfully into Red's arms, nuzzling against his chest and purring affectionately. But as Red reached up to stroke her head, she began to glow with a brilliant white light. Her body shifted and reformed.
The light of evolution faded, revealing a beautiful new Pokémon in his arms.
Its body was primarily white, with delicate pink fur on its head, ears, and tail. It had a bow on its left ear and another around its neck, each adorned with flowing ribbons of pink, dark blue, and light blue.
