The dining hall buzzed with activity as I grabbed another slice of pizza from the serving tray. I placed it on Rhys's plate before he could protest.
"You need to eat more," I muttered, avoiding his eyes.
Rhys smiled, a gentle curve of his lips that made something in my chest ache. "Thanks, Jax."
Earlier, I'd stepped between Rhys and a group of Ruby House assholes who thought they could talk shit about our bonds. I didn't throw a single punch. Just stood there, staring them down until they slunk away like the cowards they were. My hands still tingled with the restraint it took not to smash their faces in.
The old Jaxon Ryder would have left a trail of blood across the dining hall floor. Maybe the Headmaster's constant lectures about control were finally sinking in.
Or maybe I was just too tired to fight anymore.
