I woke up feeling warm and safe, snuggled against something firm yet comfortable. As consciousness fully returned, I realized I was nestled into Kaelen's chest, his arms wrapped protectively around me. The events of yesterday—reconnecting with Ronan through our mental bond—had left me exhausted, and I must have fallen asleep in Kaelen's arms.
His deep blue eyes were already open, watching me with a tenderness that still surprised me.
"Morning, sleepyhead," he murmured, brushing a strand of hair from my face.
I stretched against him, savoring the contact. "Were you watching me sleep? That's creepy, Headmaster."
His lips twitched. "I prefer 'protective observation'."
"Mmm-hmm. Sure." I sat up, rubbing my eyes. "What time is it?"
"Just after nine." Kaelen shifted, propping himself up on an elbow. "How are you feeling? No nausea?"
