Kenji's POV:
The 4th day of Walpurgisnacht.
I was waiting to watch from the spectators' seat as I watched Aiko's and Shinji's matches. After a day's rest I managed to get out of bed. The doctors say I should still wait a day or two for the wounds to properly settle in. Normally an injury like that would take months to heal on its own, but thanks to the low-grade healing potions they had on hand, my recovery time was drastically reduced.
I was currently watching the projector screens floating above the arena that showcased the different matches. However, the individual screens were still a bit small. I had to squint my eyes to tell what was going on. I could see the people around me using some kinds of magic items to enhance their vision, as they too struggled to make out the details from this far away. I struggled to see what was going on, but from what I could tell, Shinji seemed to be doing well as he just hit his opponent with an air burst and fire shot combo.
Meanwhile, Aiko seemed to be struggling as she was dodging for her life while trying to utilize some poorly structured golem made from swords and daggers. It seemed to get easily knocked down due to a lack of feet, as it was trying to balance on the tip of the two swords it had instead of legs. Her opponent had realized this and was using it to his advantage as he would quickly knock it over with his wind enchanted bow before aiming for Aiko while she was scrambling to get it back on its feet.
She eventually just gave up on having it walk on two legs as I could see it scurrying towards the enemy from behind while crawling on all fours. After the first hit it was pretty much over as the opponent quickly started losing blood after failing to dodge the sneak attack from behind that relied more on speed then stealth.
"THE WINNER IS ENCHANTER AIKO FOR HER ENCHANTED: SWORD MAN!"
I cheered as the two won only to feel embarrassed as the people around me started giving me looks. Shinji and Aiko's matches might have ended, but there were still plenty of matches going on down there.
I moved to congratulate them as I headed towards the entrance to the arena. That's where I saw a group of four teens surrounding my friends.
"Could you move?"
"We are just standing here! What? Do you Shiro bastards think you're better than us?! HUH!"
"No, we-!"
"SHUT UP! You guy's only got this far because you got lucky!"
"Come on let's just go." Shinji said as he grabbed Aiko and tried to push past them, but…
*Thud*
Just then, as he was trying to walk past, one of them tripped his foot and he fell forward while clutching Aiko's hand, pulling her down with him.
"Oops! Looks like you Shiro trash need to watch your steps! We wouldn't want your pretty little faces getting damaged right?" One of the guys said as he grabbed Aiko's chin to look at her face.
*Smack*
Just then she slapped his hand away with terror etched on her face.
"Ouch! You just hit me!? You Bitch!"
*Bang*
Just then, the one who appeared to be the leader of the group kicked Aiko in the stomach. Shinji tried to intervene, but the other two guys restrained him while the last one started using him as a punching bag.
*Bang*
*Bang*
"HAHAHA! Ugh!"
*BANG*
Just then I couldn't help myself. After seeing my friends being bullied, I charged them. They may have had numbers on their side, but they were all mages. That means they aren't suited to a close quarter's confrontation.
After pushing one of the guy's off Shinji, I punched the one who was whaling on him, before charging at the guy kicking Aiko. Shinji quickly escaped the grasp of the other guy grabbing on to him and started throwing some punches too.
I had just finished breaking the nose of the leader as I could feel a sudden impact on my lower back as a loud boom followed. My vision started going dark as I fell to the floor. My body was going numb while my ears were ringing as my stomach started burning.
When I woke up, I was back in the infirmary, where I was greeted by a doctor.
"What happened? *cough* *cough*" I coughed out.
"Mr. Kenji? I don't know how to tell you this, but-! Wait don't get up!"
Worried for my friends I rushed to get out of bed to look for them but…
*Thud*
I couldn't feel my legs as I flopped on the floor.
"I was trying to tell you! *Huff* I am sorry, but we couldn't fix the damage to the lumbar spine!"
"What do you mean?"
I could feel a chill running down my damaged spine as the doctor continued.
"It means you will never walk again! I am truly sorry!"
