After the sudden death of their parents in a car accident, 17-year-old Ren Amakusa and his twin sister Sayuri move from Tokyo to the quiet countryside town of Hoshigahara to live with their reclusive grandfather. The town, wrapped in gentle winds and crimson maple leaves, holds warm memories from their childhood—and haunting secrets they left behind.
At Hoshigahara High School, Ren reunites with old acquaintances:
Aoi Tsukimori, the gentle girl next door with a hidden bitterness.
Kanna Yukishiro, a cold perfectionist who once had feelings for Ren.
Haruka Miyazawa, a cheerful underclassman with an odd fascination with death.
And Nao Inoue, a childhood friend Ren shared a confusing, almost romantic moment with years ago.
As the twins adjust to their new life, old emotions resurface, and new bonds form—some pure, others twisted. Sayuri, once fragile and quiet, begins to grow distant… and oddly possessive. Ren is torn between the warmth of these new relationships and the deepening connection with his sister, who is the only one who truly understands the loss and loneliness they share.
But in Hoshigahara, the past never truly stays buried. As memories return and choices are made, Ren must decide:
Will he move forward into the light—or fall into the shadows of forbidden love?
Mysterious, spooky, paranormal are a few of the tags i would give it. Highly recommend this book even though only gave it a 3.8. the reason I gave such a low score are because the world is not given descriptions. we can guess it's on earth due to names of towns or cities, but buildings are left descriptionless the environment is described as rainy most of the time bit not much else to go on. the Updating I always leave at a 3. finally character designs are not really give for most people we have no clue what the Mc looks like or even the majority of other characters, however this only adds to the eerie feeling. why would I still give the story a highly recommend? simple because it gave me chills and that is not something that happens often enough. Just going back over some of the information and what could potentially occur brings chills up my spine. if the novel does not come to completion I hope the author will at least explain somethings and show me how it would have ended. I am hooked at this point and want more badly.
