Chapter 69: Di Tian

"Truly… we don't dare!" One of the staff members almost burst into tears from fright.

Gu You covered his face, saying nothing more. Honestly, it didn't matter whether they spread the word or not. Even if they did, what could anyone do? Even if someone came after him, with his divine abilities he could hold out for half an hour, and by using his communicator to call for help, at least one Limit Douluo would show up. There was no way he'd be afraid.

Gu You walked up to Wu Zhangkong and gave an awkward smile. "Old… Wu-teacher, didn't scare you, right?"

"It was definitely a big surprise," Wu Zhangkong sighed. "You're probably not just a member of the Eastsea Blacksmith Association."

"Mhm."

Gu You knew Wu Zhangkong would figure it out. Now that his strength had been revealed, he wasn't going to keep hiding his identity, but there was no need to lay everything out either. As the saying went, leave some room when dealing with people — you never know when you'll meet again.

That wisdom applied not just to others, but to himself as well.

"We'll talk later. Let's wait until Tang Wulin finishes in the spirit ascension platform." Wu Zhangkong passed by Gu You calmly.

Strangely, this kind of conversation felt very comfortable to Gu You. No unnecessary chatter, just a few simple words to get the point across.

Gu You headed to the waiting area near the spirit ascension platform, which even had an emergency treatment room — truly no lack of backup here. He was honestly curious: how did they even treat spiritual injuries?

The underground space was still quite lively. After all, the spirit ascension platform wasn't just for their Eastsea Academy group. Other prominent families and forces also sent their children here for training. So even though the area seemed cold and metallic, it was actually full of noise.

Zhang Yangzi and Wang Jinxi huddled together, not daring to meet Gu You's eyes. It was just too terrifying. That earlier pressure… it didn't even feel human.

Especially Wang Jinxi — his martial soul had violently trembled under the pressure, and he could still feel faint cracks!

Hmph!

Oh?

"Well, isn't that Gu Yue? Only gone a few minutes and already acting so high and mighty." Gu You heard a cold snort. He didn't even need to look to know it was Gu Yue.

Strangely, Gu Yue's temper seemed oddly good this time. She didn't retort at all.

Seeing this, Gu You waved his hands dismissively. Boring. Better to check on Tang Wulin and Xie Xie's progress in the platform…

Gu Yue watched Gu You walk away, then quietly faded back into the darkness.

"Lord."

In the pitch-black space, Gu Yue looked up into the shadows where a figure couldn't be seen.

"Di Tian, did you sense that aura?" Gu Yue's gaze pierced into the darkness.

"At least dragon-king-level bloodline aura… could it be one of the old dragon kings still surviving?" Di Tian's voice carried a hint of excitement.

"No. Even with my fragmented memories, I'm sure. He doesn't belong to any dragon king's bloodline. That overwhelming aura of destruction and annihilation reminded me of the Violet Flame Extinction Dragon."

Violet Flame Extinction Dragon!

Di Tian's heart trembled. He had once fought alongside the Dragon God himself, so he naturally knew this story. That beast was the progenitor of the sub-dragon species, born alongside the Dragon God. It eventually ascended to the God Realm, but because its destructive nature was too overpowering, the Dragon God had personally been forced to erase it.

"But something about his aura feels… off. It's like many things happened, but I just can't remember them clearly," Gu Yue murmured, pressing a hand to her forehead.

"Shall I personally intervene?" Di Tian asked gravely. If this truly involved the Violet Flame Extinction Dragon, it was a blood feud. The Dragon God's slaying of that ancestor was a story that could never be erased — an unending hatred.

What's worse, the title of 'lord of the sub-dragons' had not appeared again in the current era. Instead, the Dragon had more or less inherited that role, becoming the king among earth-bound dragons.

If the Violet Flame Extinction Dragon had somehow reemerged in this world, their great plan to revive the soul beast clans would become unimaginably difficult.

"No need. I'll keep a close eye on him. Our plans may need to shift slightly, but overall, this leans in our favor. Since he's a member of the dragon race, he can't possibly forget the glory and duty of revival." Gu Yue's tone was cool.

"I understand. If it's true, then perhaps we can use him to boost our success rate," Di Tian murmured, full of admiration. His lord truly was brilliant. Perhaps the revival of the soul beast clans was within reach after all!

"But still, stay alert. Keep watch on him from time to time, and whatever you do — don't let yourself be discovered," Gu Yue warned.

"Yes!" Di Tian's presence faded, the dark space collapsing away, leaving only the quiet of the waiting room once more.

"Xie Xie, look! So much energy!" Tang Wulin pointed excitedly at the glowing patches scattered on the ground, bouncing with joy.

Watching the scene play out on the monitoring screens, Gu You nearly spat out a mouthful of curses. This was classic protagonist's luck. How far away had he been from Tang Wulin? And yet somehow, all the residual spirit energy ended up being found by them. Fine! He'd take this as a learning experience. Although his experiment had shown some results, in the end, he'd only ended up setting the stage for someone else's harvest.

Wu Zhangkong, watching Gu You's frustrated expression, gave a faint, amused smile.

"Whoa! This whole area's packed! That's definitely the energy from a thousand-year soul beast, right? Wulin, we're super lucky today!!" Xie Xie's voice came from the screen as he sat down cross-legged to absorb, with Tang Wulin following suit.

Gu You took a deep breath and closed his eyes, forcing himself to calm down. The failure this time was because he'd been too careless. Who would have thought that condensing the beast's form into his mental sea would consume soul power instead of spiritual power?

There was no doubt the Eastsea Academy would give them another shot at the spirit ascension platform. Next time, he'd be ready — bottle in hand from the start. Gu You refused to believe he'd get drained dry again.

On the screen, the two boys finished absorbing the energy and pressed the distress signal to exit.

After a brief moment of darkness, the world around them lit up again. Tang Wulin practically burst out of his metal capsule, shouting, "Xie Xie! We were so lucky today!"

The surrounding light was a little harsh, making him squint as he looked around.

He saw Zhang Yangzi, saw Wang Jinxi who was still trembling slightly, and saw Gu Yue sitting calmly nearby, her face faintly flushed.

And then… he saw Gu You, standing beside them with an expression of sheer exasperation.

Once again, Long Hengxu appeared. Even Gu You hadn't noticed when the man had entered. He stood quietly next to Wu Zhangkong, noticeably more restrained than before. Wu Zhangkong remained as impassive as ever, but Long Hengxu's eyes were already brimming with astonishment.

A staff member from the spirit ascension platform spoke with heartfelt admiration. "Such promising talent… truly promising talent! Are you sure these kids are only nine years old?"

The staffer's gaze was nearly burning as he looked at Tang Wulin and Gu You in particular.

As for Gu You, he set aside for now. The boy's background clearly seemed too complicated, and the staff member was too afraid to say the wrong thing.
