But why had Silver Moon Douluo said she was waiting for Gu You in the final test?
Shen Yi noticed the puzzled looks on the three's faces and explained, "Gu You has a special second-profession assessment of his own. As for the rest of you, your second-profession levels are already in the system records, and your scores are sufficient. After thorough review, you'll be admitted directly."
"So where do we go now?" Xie Xie asked curiously.
"After you take him to the medical ward, go report to the working-student office. Make sure you report as first-years — don't wander over to the third- or fourth-year side. And don't worry, Shrek has everything clearly marked; you won't get lost."
"And Gu Yue, you can go straight to study in the inner court. Anyway, what happens next is all up to you."
"Yes!"
Gu Yue also stepped away without saying where she was going — probably to the inner court, though Shen Yi didn't interfere. After all, it's not like someone could just get lost inside Shrek Academy.
Shen Yi led Gu You up one more floor, arriving at a small rooftop terrace.
By the time they arrived, two people were already waiting. One was Cai Yue'er. To the left, Gu You saw another familiar figure.
Feng Wuyu.
"What, don't recognize me after just a few years?" Feng Wuyu smiled faintly.
"Old lunatic! How could I not know you?" Gu You called out loudly.
"You little brat, I'm basically half your master, you know! Is that how you talk to your master?"
"Well, it's because we're close!"
The two looked at each other and laughed.
"Not something you see every day," Cai Yue'er teased.
Feng Wuyu, because of his position in the Shrek Forging Association, rarely even attended Sea God's Pavilion meetings — he could barely chat with the older generation anymore. Who'd have thought he'd open up so easily to a kid like this?
"So? You apprenticed under Zhen Hua — how's your forging these days?" Feng Wuyu got to the point. 'It's been nearly six years; with Gu You's talent and Zhen Hua's teaching, he should be at soul forging level by now.'
"I've fully mastered spirit forging," Gu You admitted awkwardly. During his three years of closed-door cultivation, he really hadn't practiced much forging. Even now, he was still only at peak rank five as a forger.
"What! Still just rank five? What the hell's Zhen Hua been teaching you?" Feng Wuyu shouted, clearly worked up.
"It's my fault — I focused too much on cultivation."
"Fine then. What's your cultivation level now?" Feng Wuyu calmed down slightly.
"Peak sixty-third rank, Soul Emperor," Gu You said evenly. Thanks to absorbing the Golden Dragon King's power and gaining the auspicious beast's blessing, his soul power had surged from rank sixty-two to sixty-three.
Feng Wuyu was speechless. Thirteen years old and already a Soul Emperor? That was downright unbelievable.
"Even if your soul power is insanely high, you can't neglect your second profession. You're destined to reach the top, but second professions don't come by destiny. No matter how talented you are, if you don't study and practice, you'll never become a divine craftsman. All I want before I die is to see a student I've trained — even if only informally — reach the nine-star forging level!"
"I'll do it!"
Gu You gave a firm, steady answer.
"That's what I wanted to hear," Feng Wuyu said with a satisfied smile.
"Alright, let's see it. Forge any spirit-forged item — let me see your technique. And be quick about it!"
Shen Yi watched all this with a gentle gaze, feeling quietly warm inside as she listened to their conversation.
"Let's begin."
With the help of the three elders, Gu You soon entered a room where the staff quickly set up a forging platform and brought out various rare metals.
Gu You stepped up to the platform and closed his eyes.
He stood there silently.
He knew the method for soul forging — Zhen Hua's notes had covered it — but he'd never actually tried it. Strictly speaking, he wasn't yet ready to forge at that level. Although he had a chance of success, the odds weren't high. But Gu You wasn't afraid.
No, this time, he wanted to attempt fusion forging.
That's right — fusion forging.
Gu You pulled out the remaining Dragon Abyss Meteorite and Dragonbeard Crystal, placing them on the platform. He pressed a button, lowering them into the furnace to begin heating.
With a flash of light, two spirit-forged Life Essence Hammers appeared in his hands.
"Long time no see, buddies," Gu You murmured, greeting the hammers. Almost as if they understood, they gave off a faint purple glow in response.
"Why hasn't he started yet?" Shen Yi asked in confusion.
"Little girl, just wait and see," Feng Wuyu chuckled. "He's probably preparing a surprise."
Fusion forging, as the name suggests, involves fusing two metals. Before spirit forging, this is the hardest step. Mastering fusion forging means you're basically locked in to advancing toward soul forging.
At his current level, Gu You could only attempt fusion with two metals — these two. He'd researched it last time while making battle armor, but had failed.
Normally, fusing unfamiliar metals is extremely difficult. When there's precedent, it's simpler — like fusing jade stone and sinking silver to make jade-silver alloy. But the combination Gu You was about to attempt had never been recorded before. This would be his first try — and the forging world's first as well.
'Could it be…?'
Feng Wuyu instantly realized what Gu You was attempting the moment he saw the two metals. His anticipation only grew.
Normally, only when you've fully mastered spirit forging and reached rank six as a forger do you begin learning fusion forging. Technically, Gu You was already at that threshold — as long as your spirit forging is consistent and your material purity is high, you qualify. But to truly be a six-star forger, you must be able to fuse metals.
While they were talking, the two rare metals finished heating.
The forging began. Gu You swiftly entered a state of total focus, each hammer strike resonating with his own spiritual power.
Only by mastering fusion forging can one truly be called a forging master — at least from the Federation's official perspective.
In the Federation's military industry, fusion-forged metals are vital for creating weapons, armor, devices, and modern military equipment. Fusion-forged alloys boost strength, hardness, and durability, making them far better suited for combat applications.
Only once you master this skill does the Sun-Moon Federation government consider recruiting you — offering state salaries, national positions, and outstanding benefits.
