The traverse of worlds was unobservable. In an unconscious state, Shirou once again began traversing worlds. But this time, unlike before, he had a dream. In his dream, he transformed into a blacksmith, tirelessly forging weapons, all in pursuit of crafting the supreme holy sword—the ultimate sword capable of cutting through everything.
But the dream quickly shifted. This time, he stood before a lakeside. Beyond the water, a golden-haired maiden conversed with a fairy emerging from the lake.
"Do you desire this sword, or this scabbard?" the Lady of the Lake inquired.
"I desire the sword!" the maiden answered resolutely.
Shirou observed these scenes with great clarity. So, it was the legend of King Arthur. In his dream, he was like a ghost, following King Arthur's side, watching her grow step by step into the great hero admired by all. Then, he watched her kingdom decline, and finally, witnessed her death. The dream felt so real. Looking at King Arthur sleeping beneath the tree, Shirou sighed deeply.
---
"Where am I?" Waking from his slumber, an unfamiliar ceiling met Shirou's gaze. Slowly sitting up, he surveyed the strange surroundings. The distinctly modern style of the room was clear—Shirou had left the DanMachi world and entered a new one, one that was set in the modern era.
Looking at the bookshelf, wardrobe, desk, computer, and other items around him, Shirou stood up and drew open the curtains. A familiar landscape greeted his eyes.
"What a familiar architectural style. Is this modern Japan?" Bright sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow on Shirou. He sighed, and then a mysterious knowledge filled his mind.
Sitting back down on his bed, Shirou reflected for a moment before sighing, "So this is the so-called perfect integration into another world?"
Shirou was perfectly clear about his trump card:
[Distant Time Scale], which had two abilities. The first was the ability to traverse worlds, something he had already experienced twice. The second, the ability to perfectly integrate into another world.
While Shirou was familiar with the first ability, he had never truly understood the second one. After all, this ability had not been necessary in the DanMachi world—no one there would check his identity.
But now, in this new world, it had become his perfect aid. With its help, Shirou's identity was flawless.
To the people of this world, he was not a traveler from another world, but an ordinary person who had lived here since childhood, with a verifiable identity and background. His existence in this world was seamless.
This was especially important in future worlds, where household registration and identity were crucial. In such worlds, without proper identification, one could easily be mistaken for a spy or similar entity and would struggle to move freely. Thus, this function became extremely vital to Shirou.
But the most significant part of this ability was its power to integrate into the local power system. In the myriad worlds, many systems of cultivation were unique to their respective worlds. For example, in the Naruto world, only natives could use Chakra, a power spread by Kaguya Otsutsuki. Similarly, in the One Piece world, Haki couldn't be learned by outsiders due to differences in body structure.
However, under the influence of [Distant Time Scale]'s perfect integration ability, Shirou could learn any system of cultivation in any world he entered. For instance, in the current world, the cultivation system was known as "Blazers."
"So, it's the world of Chivalry of a Failed Knight... Ikki Kurogane, the 'Failed Knight'? I'm truly looking forward to it!" Shirou smiled faintly as the memories in his mind stirred.
Chivalry of a Failed Knight tells the story of Ikki Kurogane, known as the "Failed Knight," who rises to become the Seven Stars Sword King. In this world, there exists a profession called Blazers—special individuals, one in a thousand, who can manifest their souls as weapons, called "Devices," and use magic to manipulate anomalies. In ancient times, these people were called mages or witches.
The abilities of Blazers cannot be observed by science or technology. Those with high abilities can manipulate the flow of time, while those with lesser abilities can enhance their physical capabilities to superhuman levels. Their power far surpasses that of technology and martial arts, placing them in high regard in police, military, and warfare.
For Blazers, two things are most important. First is the Device—the materialized form of a Blazer's soul, akin to a mage's magic staff. The Device serves as a medium to unleash Blazer techniques. Every Blazer possesses both a Device and an anomaly, existing in tandem. Most Blazers cannot use their anomaly without manifesting their Device, but there are a rare few who can.
Second is the Total amount of magic power. In this world, the Total magic power of a Blazer is innate and cannot be increased through training. It can be likened to the weight of a person's destiny. Those destined for greatness naturally rise to greatness. Magic power has broad uses in this world. It can protect the body, imbue weapons with power, or enhance speed. A Blazer with higher magic power could defeat an opponent who wears magic armor, while someone with less magic power might struggle.
The protagonist of the original work, Ikki Kurogane, has a meager amount of magic power, yet he embarks on a path to become a Magic Knight despite the odds. To become a professional Magic Knight, one must graduate from a National Magic Knight Academy. To do so, Ikki must defeat all student knights in the Seven Stars Sword Art Festival and become the Seven Stars Sword King—an underdog story of the weakest triumphing over the strongest.
