The story is told from the perspective of a cynical and hyper-articulate narrator who lives in a motel and co-runs a resale business with his father, buying and selling the contents of abandoned storage units. He sees himself as a walking contradiction and a retired writer, a keen observer of societal hypocrisy who chronicles the sagas of the forgotten lives he sorts through. The plot is set in motion when he learns that a local horror poet has committed suicide and mysteriously left him her storage unit.
