Chapter 5

Seraphina lay on the soft animal hide, nervously stroking her belly.

"Kaelen, is our baby alright?"

Kaelen pulled her into his embrace, his tone gentle.

"He's fine. The herbalist examined him; he's very healthy."

"Oh, good. Yesterday, when Ella rushed onto the altar, I really thought I was going to die. All I could think was, it wouldn't matter if I died, but the heir in my womb..."

Seraphina said, a few tears rolling down her cheeks.

Kaelen froze for a few seconds, as if only then remembering me.

The image of my face, pale as a sheet when I gave blood, flashed before his eyes, and his brows furrowed deeply.

He offered Seraphina a few words of comfort, but his mind was elsewhere.
