Chapter 18: The Eightfold Scripture

The inner sect library stood like a temple of silence nestled within a sheer cliffside, its stone walls inscribed with cultivation seals that shimmered faintly under the morning sun. Only those with inner disciple tokens could enter.

Lin Ho walked past the bronze guardians flanking the entrance. As he held up his new jade token, the stone doors parted with a low rumble.

Inside, the air was thick with the scent of old parchment and refined spirit ink. Rows of jade slips hovered in glowing stasis fields. A few inner disciples sat cross-legged on meditation cushions, deep in study, their bodies wrapped in a faint halo of Qi.

Lin Ho bypassed the basic and intermediate levels and made his way to a section labeled:

> "Obscured Path Scriptures – Tier IV & Above"

A small pedestal awaited him at the end of the corridor. On it rested a single jade slip — glowing with silver script.

> "[Eightfold Body Scripture] — Fragment I"

He placed the slip to his forehead.

The world shifted.

In his mind, he stood within a great hall made of starlight and shifting constellations. A voice echoed without source:

> "The body is the vessel. Eight gates lie within. Only by tempering all eight can one become the bearer of cosmic force."

He saw a body suspended in space. Its skin turned golden. Muscles rippled like flowing rivers. Bones glowed with internal constellations. Blood turned crystalline. Marrow pulsed with power. Internal organs floated weightless, surrounded by formation diagrams.

The vision exploded into pain.

Lin Ho gritted his teeth as searing heat burned into his soul. Chaos Qi surged on its own, trying to stabilize the flood of knowledge.

Then… calm.

He opened his eyes, still kneeling in the library, and exhaled deeply. Steam drifted from his skin.

> "So this is it… the first gate. Skin."

His Chaos Bloodline had already tempered his body beyond normal standards — but now, with guidance from the scripture, he could forge it even further. Slowly. Precisely.

And without triggering tribulation.

---

Over the next few days, Lin Ho isolated himself in his cliffside courtyard. He soaked in marrow-healing fluids purchased with contribution points, used formation-threaded needles to stimulate meridian flow, and circulated his Chaos Qi through the mapped eightfold points described in the jade slip.

Every cycle sharpened his control. His skin grew harder, yet lighter. Flexible, yet unyielding.

By the fourth night, his senses expanded. Even with eyes closed, he could feel a spider crawling along the stone ceiling above his head. The wind brushing against the leaves outside.

> Skin Tempering — Perfected.

---

Meanwhile, word spread through the inner sect.

> "That new disciple — Lin Ho — he chose the Eightfold Scripture?" "Is he insane? People go mad trying to understand the first fragment."

But those same voices grew quiet when Lin Ho emerged five days later and sparred with a fellow disciple during morning drills.

A single strike.

That was all it took for his opponent's weapon to bounce back as though hitting spirit-forged iron. Lin Ho hadn't even used Qi.

---

Far above, the elders continued observing through mirrored formations.

> "He's using that scripture as a supplement. His real strength lies elsewhere." "And yet he advances through our techniques with no conflict." "That shouldn't be possible…"

Elder Mu narrowed his eyes.

> "Let him continue. The more he grows, the clearer the truth becomes."
