Chapter 44: Into the Abyssal Sea

The spirit ship glided across the water like a phantom, barely disturbing the surface. But the ocean was far from calm. The deeper they sailed, the more unnatural the sea became. The sky dimmed, clouds thickening like bruises in the air. Lightning flickered in the distance, but no thunder followed.

Lin Ho stood at the bow, his gaze fixed on the colossal plume of black mist in the distance. It twisted and writhed like a living thing, seething with ancient malice.

> "That's not natural mist," Mu Yanyan muttered, her eyes narrow. "It feels… aware."

Xu Liang said nothing. His spear remained in his hand the entire journey, even when resting. Yan Fei meditated with a flame dancing in her palm — not for cultivation, but for comfort.

The three elders stood on the upper deck, constantly reinforcing the barrier formation surrounding the ship. Even they looked grim.

> "Prepare yourselves," Elder Qiu said. "We're nearing the boundary of the old seal."

Hours Later – Beneath the Plume

The ship halted. Before them stretched a vast whirlpool — not made of water, but void. Sea creatures floated lifeless near the edge, their corpses twisted and drained of essence. Black mist spiraled around it, creating a dome-like veil that obscured everything below.

Elder Mo unfurled the scroll he'd kept sealed until now. He chanted a few ancient words, and a formation disk hovered into the air, humming with ethereal light.

> "This will allow us passage. But once inside… the rules of the world may change."

The disciples nodded.

One by one, they stepped through the veil.

Inside the Abyss

Everything turned silent. The sea here did not roar or crash — it whispered. The water above no longer shimmered with sunlight, but reflected the image of a sky that did not belong to their world. Stars pulsed overhead… yet they were submerged.

> "This place defies natural law," Xu Liang muttered.

Elder Qiu led the group down a crumbling path of coral and obsidian bones. Strange structures lay in ruin—pyramids, temples, all sunken and fused with the seabed. It was a dead city, forgotten by time.

Suddenly, Lin Ho stopped.

> "Something… is calling me."

The others turned.

His Chaos Bloodline pulsed violently in his chest. The air around him shimmered with distorted Qi.

> "It's not just a ruin," Elder Qiu said. "This was once a kingdom."

> "And it remembers its enemies," Elder Mo added, staring at Lin Ho with a knowing look.

The black mist began to stir like a living tide.
