**Chapter 227: The Death of Nick Fury**
When the Glock 26 handgun in Black Widow's hand fired the first bullet, the unsuspecting Nick Fury was shot in the back of the head and fell to the ground.
The bullet entered through the occipital bone at the back of his head, and the powerful force carried a spray of red and white brain matter from his forehead, leaving an egg-sized hole.
*Thud!*
Nick Fury fell heavily onto the carpet, his eyes still holding a look of disbelief and shock.
This kind of close-range back of the head shot, almost like an execution-style shot, let alone Nick Fury, even if Steve Rogers were here, he would be instantly killed by a single shot.
But Black Widow didn't stop. She lowered the muzzle of her gun and fired several more shots at Nick Fury's head.
By the time she emptied the magazine, the head of the infamous 'Motherfucker' exploded like a ripe watermelon. Red and white liquid splattered onto the ground, instantly soaking a large area of the wool carpet.
Before anyone could react, Black Widow casually tossed aside the empty handgun, rolled to Nick Fury's corpse, drew the handgun from his waist with her right hand, and simultaneously fumbled in his chest area with her left hand, pulling out an old-fashioned pager!
"Grab her!"
By the time Black Widow stuffed the old-fashioned pager away, the people in the Helicarrier's command center had just started to react.
Hill was the first to react. She drew her handgun with a backhand motion and fired several shots at Black Widow.
"Bang bang bang!—"
Black Widow rolled on the spot, dodging Hill's bullets, then lunged and tackled a French Councillor from the World Security Council.
"Nobody move! Let me leave!"
Black Widow pulled the white-haired old man in front of her as a shield, the gun in her hand pointed at the back of his head.
"Agent Natasha, do you have any idea what you're doing?" Hill raised her gun at Black Widow and demanded with a frosty look on her face.
At this moment in the command center, a crowd of Agents also raised their guns at Black Widow. The piercing alarm echoed throughout the Helicarrier, and large numbers of armed security personnel swarmed into the command center.
These armed security personnel held up bulletproof shields, protecting the Councillors and high-ranking officials behind them. While covering their retreat, the modified Chitauri energy rifles in their hands were all aimed at Black Widow.
Black Widow's left arm was clamped around the hostage's neck, and the gun in her right hand was pointed at the back of the hostage's head. She watched coldly as the people in the command center evacuated, making no further moves.
"Agent Natasha, I don't know why you're doing this, but you'd better surrender now!" Hill stood behind two Special Agents and shouted at Black Widow.
A hint of a smile appeared on Black Widow's lips. "Is that so?!" She slightly opened her mouth towards Hill and mouthed the word: "Boom!"
Hill was somewhat confused. Just then, the ground under her feet shook, and a strong vibration came from the Helicarrier below.
Several armed security personnel and Agents lost their footing in the earthquake-like vibration and fell directly to the ground.
"What did you do?" Hill struggled to regain her balance, looking at Black Widow with shock and anger.
"Just some time bombs. I estimate one of the Helicarrier's engines is already damaged. Hill, you have one more chance! I'll give you ten minutes to consider: mutual destruction or let me go!" Black Widow had the smile of a victor on her face.
Because of the Convergence of the Nine Realms, Earth was overrun with creatures from the Nine Realms. The powerful forces originally stationed on the Helicarrier had all been dispatched elsewhere on missions.
Black Widow, having just finished her review, happened to remain on the Helicarrier, which undoubtedly gave her an opportunity.
Hill didn't know that Black Widow was being controlled by Boss Tang. She didn't dare gamble… After weighing the pros and cons, she could only choose to have her Agents clear a path.
Under the muzzles of numerous S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents' guns, Black Widow retreated to the Helicarrier's hangar deck, holding the unfortunate French Councillor hostage.
Two of the latest model Quinjets were parked there. In front of the hangar, it was surrounded by S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents.
Meanwhile, in the Helicarrier's command center, the man who held the title of humanity's strongest Agent, the one who suspected everything, had now become a forgotten corpse.
His cause of death was meddling! One wonders if, given another chance, Nick Fury would still choose to investigate Boss Tang.
...…
Svartalfheim, the world where the Dark Elves live, a pitch-black, lightless zone. This is the paradise of dark creatures.
In the darkness, where sight was useless, a bat the size of a house silently pounced on a three-legged cow that was gnawing on moss.
In the dark Svartalfheim, due to the prolonged lightless environment, the creatures of Svartalfheim had evolved uniquely acute senses of hearing.
The three-legged cow, with a shoulder height exceeding four meters, had senses spread across its hooves beneath its thick legs that could detect vibration, allowing it to discover enemies instantly.
The Dark Demon Bat, a creature naturally equipped with radar senses, was a dominant force in Svartalfheim. In the lightless Svartalfheim, creatures like bats undoubtedly had a huge advantage. Their hunting senses, evolved over millions of years, allowed the Dark Demon Bat to reduce the vibration sound of its bat wings to almost zero.
By the time the three-legged cow sensed the sound of breaking air, it was too late! The Dark Demon Bat's sharp, hollow teeth had just pierced inside the cow's body, and it was devouring its flesh and blood in large gulps.
*Boom!* The space wrinkled like a water surface, and a tattered spaceship appeared in this canyon. Its bow directly ran over the Dark Demon Bat, crushing the Dark Demon Bat and the half-dead three-legged cow into a paste of flesh.
Malekith's expression was grim, his heart filled with rage. Before they could even invade Asgard, they had been driven back from Midgard.
Damned Mephisto had tricked him. The people of Midgard were not as weak as he claimed. They possessed energy weapons no less inferior to theirs, and those extraordinary humans who wielded supernatural powers.
Damn it, if the Aether hadn't disappeared, how could he have been ganged up on by a bunch of Midgardians.
Malekith clutched his shoulder with his hand, his entire body aching. That green-skinned monster, and that human who could shoot laser beams, just you wait. As long as I get the Aether, one day, I will let you see what true darkness is.
Before Malekith could adjust his mindset, the space rippled like a pond after rain.
Dozens of S.H.I.E.L.D. armed security personnel, riding Chitauri imitation airships produced by the Tang Group, pursued them through the Dimensional Space.
"Damn it! This is too much! Kill them!" Malekith roared in rage. He appeared outside the spaceship. The Dark Elves' innate ability allowed Malekith to be like a fish in water in the darkness.
Streaks of black energy seemed to transform into tentacles in the darkness, stealthily reaching out. Sharp black spears pierced the chests of the Agents on the airships.
Dozens of Dark Elves coordinated, emitting silent shrieks from their mouths. In the canyon, a dense swarm of Dark Demon Bats flew out.
Thousands of Demon Bats attacked the airships. Malekith chanted under his breath, and masses of black mist, thicker than the night, enveloped the entire canyon. Within the black mist, the infrared devices on the airships seemed to malfunction.
The pale blue exhaust flames from the motorcycle airships were like beacons in the darkness. From time to time, explosion sounds echoed in the air.
Under the attack of these Dark Demon Bats, the Human Soldiers who had lost their sight quickly became food for this swarm of Dark Demon Bats amidst screams.
"The lightless environment is very disadvantageous for us!" At the border between Svartalfheim and Earth, on the Human World side, the Superheroes who had just repelled the Dark Elves' invasion looked at the picture transmitted before the flying motorcycle/skiffs were destroyed, exchanging glances.
"Since the enemy has retreated from Earth, we just need to guard this Spatial Channel to prevent them from coming back. Fighting on their home ground is very disadvantageous for us!" Captain America, holding his Vibranium shield, looked at the pitch-black environment on the monitoring screen and shook his head. "According to Professor Erik's analysis, the astronomical phenomenon of the Convergence of the Nine Realms won't last too long. We just need to hold out during this time, and when the Nine Realms separate, our mission will be complete!"
"Perhaps we can take the initiative to attack!" Tony Stark raised a dissenting opinion. "Passive defense has never been our style!"
"Since these long-eared dark-skinned creatures dared to invade Earth, we definitely have to hit them back hard! Captain, don't forget our name, the Avengers! Just now, our comrades-in-arms were eaten alive by these bat-like monsters! We must seek revenge for them!"
"I think Mr. Stark is right. We shouldn't let the battlefield be on Earth. Instead of passive defense, it's better to take the initiative to attack!"
The speaker was Black Panther T'Challa. The reason he sided with Tony Stark was naturally because of the Nine Realms Development Plan formulated by Boss Tang.
This plan was only circulated among the high-level staff of the World Security Council. However, because Wakanda's relations with various countries had eased over the past year, Wakanda had also successfully become a member of the World Security Council.
Several complete worlds awaiting development were an irresistible temptation for any qualified leader.
Tony Stark's words about seeking revenge for their comrades-in-arms seemed to move Captain America. He raised his shield and looked around.
At this moment, the open space near this space wrinkle was surrounded by extraordinary forces on alert. Among them were Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye from the Avengers, Cyclops and Human Torch from the X-Men, Thing from the Fantastic Four, and a team of mutants led by Sabretooth, the Presidential Guard of the former Brotherhood of Mutants, now Utopia.
On the other side, Frank, the Punisher and Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who had arrived with reinforcements, was briefing Lucien, the special agent captain of the action team. Behind Lucien were dozens of fully armed, burly soldiers who had come as reinforcements. Among these soldiers, several tall figures, fully armored with not an inch of skin showing, were subtly mixed in.
Looking at the powerful forces around him and the high morale, Captain America also felt that the advantage in this battle was theirs. He raised his shield, just as he was about to say something.
A series of urgent phone calls suddenly rang out. It wasn't just one call; the first to receive a phone call was Frank, the current Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
"What? How is that possible? Who is the killer?" Frank said, while his gaze swept over the crowd of Avengers.
Captain America and Tony Stark were somewhat baffled by the wary look in Frank's gaze.
It wasn't until Hawkeye Barton received a phone call. "What? Impossible? Agent Natasha, how could she betray us? How could she attack Director Fury!"
Soon after the information about Black Widow Natasha attacking Nick Fury spread, the scene descended into chaos.
Captain America had no choice but to take Hawkeye aboard a Quinjet and rush back to the Helicarrier to handle and investigate the truth of the matters.
To prevent the Dark Elves from counterattacking, Hulk, Thor, and Tony Stark, the three major forces, remained behind to assist with the defense.
Frank, who had taken command authority of the scene, immediately issued the order to attack Svartalfheim.
"Boom boom boom!" After the space wrinkled, dozens of unmanned Iron Soldiers charged into this dark land.
After these Iron Soldiers rushed into Svartalfheim, they immediately opened their weapons bays, and hundreds of mini missiles instantly bombing in all directions.
Many of the mini missiles, mixed with flashbangs and concussion grenades, landed among the dense swarm of Dark Demon Bats.
Violent explosion roars echoed in this silent land. The noisy explosions instantly disoriented the swarm of Dark Demon Bats.
Seeing this scene, Malekith was enraged. His dark mist instantly enveloped the dozens of Iron Soldiers.
"Sizzle—" At the junction of Earth and Svartalfheim, in front of a Quinjet, Frank, the Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., looked at the static on the command screen before him. With a toothpick in his mouth, he decisively pressed the self-destruct button on the Iron Soldiers.
An electromagnetic signal, enhanced by Ivan Vanko, traveled through space and activated a hidden software program on the Iron Soldiers.
"Boom boom boom boom boom boom—" Red light simultaneously glowed in the eyes of dozens of Iron Soldiers. Malekith felt a sudden panic in his heart, not yet understanding what was happening.
A strong light flashed, and dozens of fireballs, like suns, simultaneously rose in the Underworld, transforming into mushroom clouds soaring into the sky.
Strong light explosion and radiation vibration shook Svartalfheim for over a hundred miles. For countless native creatures of Svartalfheim living in darkness and relying on faint light, the strong light was like a sharp sword, instantly blinding their eyes, which had already degenerated to near uselessness.
"Obstacles cleared, second wave advance!" After clearing the obstacles using the Iron Soldiers' self-destruct, Frank issued the order, and the second wave of attack personnel entered Svartalfheim aboard flying motorcycle/skiffs.
Malekith was indeed a powerful person of the same generation as Odin's Father. Even at the epicenter of the explosion, the self-destruct of dozens of Iron Soldiers did not take his life.
However, that weathered spaceship was directly reduced to a pile of debris in the explosion.
Black mist permeated Malekith's entire body. A continuous stream of black mist spread from all directions, healing his injured body.
Just then, a ball of firelight surged into this Underworld.
Human Torch from the Fantastic Four stood in mid-air in the Underworld, his entire body radiating light and heat, transforming into a human form torch. While providing illumination for the follow-up forces, he hurled fireballs at Malekith with his hands.
Iron Man, piloting his Iron Suit, followed closely behind, followed by Hulk, wearing Vibranium gauntlets, and dozens of human soldiers piloting flying motorcycle/skiffs.
"Whoosh whoosh whoosh—" Tony Stark, controlling his Iron Suit, fired several missiles at Malekith. Hulk leaped directly into the air, smashing his massive fist towards Malekith.
Malekith controlled the dark mist, transforming it into sharp swords that shot towards Human Torch on the horizon. At the same time, he tanked the missiles fired by Tony Stark and threw punches, engaging in battle with Hulk.
Boom boom boom… The missiles fired from Tony Stark's Iron Suit landed on Malekith's body, instantly blasting his body full of craters.
However, the surrounding dark mist instantly enveloped him, and the wounds on his body healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Bang bang bang… Malekith and Hulk traded blows, punch for punch.
Malekith was indeed one of the top powerful ones in the Nine Realms. Even without the Aether, under the siege of numerous superheroes, he still fought back and forth with Hulk, not falling into a disadvantage.
"Malekith!" A roar echoed in the air. A figure rapidly swung a hammer, drawing down a thick bolt of lightning that blasted towards Malekith.
In the hidden darkness, no one noticed that Lucien, leading his Ghost Wolf Soldiers who had charged into the Underworld with the main force, disappeared into the darkness.
