Kat's POV
"Sawyer, it's none of your business what happened. Get over it and get out of here, or else you will be kicked out permanently." I said sternly.
"I'm not leaving until you tell me what I want to know." The sheriff came in glaring. "No this is an everyday thing get your butt out of here now."
The sheriff came over. "Is there a problem here?" He asked. "No." "Yes." Sawyer and I said at the same "I'm going with her word on this. Let's go, Sawyer." The elder gentlemen around the store looked over.
Once Sawyer and the officer were gone, they started talking. "Glad he's gone." One said. "If I had to hear another word out of his mouth, I would have taken him outside and whooped him like he was my son." Another replied.
Zach came in with lunch for the third time this week. The past two weeks, he's been bringing me lunch. "How's your father, Zach?" Mr. Delle asked him.
"He's doing good," Zach told him, setting my lunch on the counter. I peeked in the bag wondering what he brought today. "So are you two what they call dating?" Mr. Delle asked.
I nodded. "Yeah. It's been about what? A month?" Zach said. I nodded before trying to get into the bag. Zach reached into the bag and handed me my lunch.
I kissed his cheek before eating whatever he made. It was good. He makes the best sandwiches too!
"If she trusts you to bring her food then you've got my word to stop my wife from bickering about you two." He said as I rang up the merchandise.
"Oh and the rust is starting to show under the hood." He added. I pulled out several pocket knives for him to see. He selected one and bought it also.
Zach looked amazed at that. All the elderly men knew the phrase to buy a new pocket knife. Dad told them the phrase when his brother tried to steal pocket knives from the store one day.
The rest left and the afternoon became slow. More like it looked like a ghost town. "Kat you need to hurry over to Triple R. Take Dillard with you." I grabbed my keys and hurried out.
Dillard jumped into the front seat before I got in. I almost ran a red light driving out there. Before I got to the gate I slammed on my breaks missing my horse. He stopped in front of my truck just standing there.
I got out and grabbed his halter. He was skittish and I could see fear in his eyes. I got a hackamore out of my truck after pulling it off the road. My phone rang.
"Kat Zach just tried to mount your horse and he bolted. We don't know how bad Zach is hurt. It's not your fault or anyone else's." Buck said over the phone.
I grabbed the bridle and took it off. Then almost ripped the saddle off his back. I put the hackamore on him and got him to kneel in the grass. He knelt so I could get on his back. He stood and backed up close to the fence.
I got him straight and he shied into a run. So I let him tire himself out. Once he was tired I loped him up to the barn. That's when he went wild. I pulled him to a stop and turned him back to the truck.
He calmed down completely. Ok maybe I'll have to ask Zach if he can come over to my house to train him because if this is going to happen I can't be coming to get him when he's ran or accidentally got someone hurt.
I took him over to the truck and tied him there. I can't leave him out here because he's an abused high dollar horse. Nothing good comes out of that.
Colt came with a trailer for my horse. "Follow me to my house." I told him as I got my horse into the trailer. I turned around and drove straight to my house with Colt right behind me.
Once at my barn I got out and unloaded my horse quickly. Then placed him in the back pasture. "I'll get him in the morning. He loves it out there anyway." I told Colt.
He glared at me. "If Zach dies because of that horse your paying for every single bill on his death. Edwards." He said coldly before leaving.
Yeah I get him and Sawyer being enemies and all, but I'm nothing like my cousin. I jumped back into my truck and went to the hospital. If Colt hates my cousin that much just wait until he sees how much I'm not like my cousin.
I parked next to Buck's truck and went in. Both older brothers were there. I sat down away from them scared for Zach's life.
I looked through the photos of me and him. I smiled when it came to the one with him holding the baby's picture and smiling.
My smile dropped once I ran out of photos. I went back to the baby one and set it as my lock screen. Someone sat next to me. I looked up and saw Buck next to me.
"Don't listen to a word Colt says about you. He thinks all Edwards are bad news." He told me. "And most of the Edwards hate the Rays. Including my brother. My parents have done business with your ranch since it started. Before this whole feud was even started. That's what I go by."
"So Zach's not just a pick up? Let's go out for a drink guy?" I shook my head. "No he wants to stop the alcohol and that. That's why we started going over to each other's houses on Friday's." I told him.
