Chapter 2: Driven Out Of The House

Rayna stood from the floor and went over to the coffee table to sign the papers. She had to sign this for her brother, if not he would die. He was the only one in this world that she had left.

She signed her name on it and wiped the tears away from her eyes. She would get it back!

The paper was snatched from her hold, immediately she signed. She looked up and saw that it was her father.

"Good that you signed it." William said coldly.

"What of Liam?" Rayna asked as she clenched her fists tightly.

"What about him? He is not responding to any treatment, so why should I waste my money on someone that is dead?" William said and walked away.

Rayna stood frozen not believing what her father was spouting from his mouth. She went after him.

"You said if I signed the papers, you would continue his treatment, what are you saying now?!" Rayna shouted.

"Do not raise your voice at me, young woman. When did I ever say such? I didn't know you now spout lies from your mouth." William said and flung her hand away and walked past her.

Rayna held the wall for support but she decided not to cry. She went up to her room but found the mother-daughter duo in front of her room.

"And where do you think you are going?" Lily asked Rayna with a smile on her face.

"I don't have time for your nuisance. Just move away." Rayna said and was about to walk past them to open her door, but she was pushed away.

"No, you don't." Samantha said with a smirk.

"Leave the front of my room, Samantha."

"Or else what? Answer me, or else what? This room no longer belongs to you neither does this house." Samantha said.

"What is the rubbish you are saying?" Rayna asked with a frown.

"I thought she graduated with a first class; how come she is this stupid?" Samantha asked with a fake worried tone.

"I think your father just wasted money sending her to school." Lily replied.

Lily clapped her hands twice and two maids came immediately.

"Take her bags and herself out of this house. I am going to have a nap; by the time I wake up, I don't even want to see her shadow inside this house. I hope I am clear?" Lily ordered.

"Yes, madam." The two maids replied.

"What do you mean by that, Lily? This is my house and I am not going anywhere." Rayna said.

"We will see about that." Lily replied and walked away with Samantha in tow but not before she smirked at Rayna.

"Father! Father! Where are you?" Rayna called out to her dad but there was no response.

Good. Very good.

"Don't touch me!" Rayna said coldly and the maids backed off, not because they couldn't touch her and throw her out of the house like they had been instructed but because there had never been a day she had been mean to them. She had always been nice to them and helped them if she was capable.

She entered her room and packed her clothes, shoes, bags, and everything that belonged to her in that room. She guessed that, Samantha might have forgotten to take anything of value from her room because the girl always wanted everything that belonged to her.

The room was bare, not even toothpaste could be seen in the bathroom because she packed everything. She dragged her bags behind her and strode into her brother's room and then did the same thing. The bags were many, and she could not carry them out by herself; the maids saw this and helped her out.

She ordered a taxi and decided to drop all the bags in a hotel before heading to the hospital.

Minutes later, she was on her way to the hospital after dropping the bags at the hotel room she had booked earlier.

She rested her head against the car's window and stared at the passing scenery reminiscing about what had happened just hours ago. It was nighttime already. She sighed and decided not to think about anything for now.

The car suddenly came to an abrupt halt, interrupting her train of thought.

"What happened, mister?" She asked worriedly.

"It seems the car has run out of fuel." The driver replied apologetically.

She decided to get off and just walk the remaining distance, since the hospital was no longer far.

"I'll get off here, mister."

"Ohh alright. Sorry about this." The driver apologized.

"It's alright. The walk to the hospital is not far." She came down from the car and then paid the driver before walking away. The road was deserted and there were no coming vehicles.

Rayna could see a blaring light from the vehicle ahead that stopped in the middle of the road. "Who would park their car in the middle of the road?" She muttered.

But as she approached the car, she almost screamed in shock.

She approached the car and noticed that the windscreen of the car was shattered. And in the driver seat, a grey-haired man had his face down on the steering.

Rayna was so scared, "Are you alright, mister?" But she got no response as the man was unconscious.

She looked inside the car and her eyes caught an old man in the back seat who had his eyes open staring right at her and he was bleeding from his head before he lost consciousness.

Rayna looked at the old man in shock. He had scared the hell out of her. "Right! The ambulance!"

She pulled out her phone and input a string of numbers before dialing it.

Some minutes later, they got to the hospital, and the old man with his driver was taken into the intensive care unit.

Rayna was about to go to her brother's ward to check on him when she heard the nurses say, "It seems like they are homeless. Is it really okay if we take them in?"

"Let's just wait and see. If anything, we can send him elsewhere."

"They said the old men didn't have a guardian, though. Someone found them by the roadside."

Rayna turned back, "Excuse me!"

"Yes?" The nurse answered politely.

"I'm... the guardian of the old men they brought inside now." Rayna said with a small smile
