Lin and Max started at each other. They both had the same feeling of annoyance, looking at each others mugs. Specifically Lin. He looked disgusted that he was facing Max, an irritating development to Max.
Max: Why the hell are you here?
Lin: Can ask the same thing to you..
Melissa: Let's not engage in hatred, shall we? We don't seem like we have problems with each other. So it's better if we get along...don't you think?
Melissa as usual was trying to ease the tension between the two men. Max wasn't aware why Lin hated him, but it was sure to him that he hated Lin for absolutely no reason. There was just a bad vibe between both of them, that wasn't easy to comprehend.
Lin: Why would I ever wanna get along with ...HIM..?
Lin made the argument with the utter disappointment in his face obvious to everyone, whilst stating that. This pissed off Max to the point that he wanted to deal a blow, but suddenly Chuck stopped him.
Max stopped in his tracks looking at Chuck's hand stopping Max's arm. Slowly, the shy Chuck stepped ahead. Lin also confused, was looking at him. Melissa was dumbfounded when she finally realized that she recognized the young boy.
Melissa: Oh it's you....the young kid...
She pointed at him, making the kid blush. He lowered his head down wanting to say something. He still looked ashamed to face her for some reason. He slowly voiced his thoughts, in a slow whisper, baffling Max because this was the same kid who wouldn't shut up a moment ago.
Chuck: Umm....I think you are good guys, because you shared your food with me, the last time you were here. So thanks for that.
Chuck expressed his gratitude with a bow. Max was aware culture like this exists in Japan or the Asian countries...but Chuck doing it felt so out of place to him. And the content of his words, meant that Chuck was talking about the time they initially met, prior to them meeting Max.
Chuck: And...I think Max here is also a good guy....and maybe we should all be friends...
Suddenly out of nowhere, Lin grabbed Chuck's collar dragging him upward away from the ground. Lin was taller and intimidating, compared to Chuck.
Lin: You are NOT my friend and no one is.....DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?
Lin was practically screaming at this point, his eyes filled with fury. Max was intelligent enough to understand that there was something going on behind his eyelids of fury, but he didn't care for now. Whatever the reason was, it was stupid to pull a move like that on Chuck.
Max grabbed Lin's arm and pulled him back, forcing him to let go of the grip he had on Chuck. It was obvious that Max was physically stronger, for some reason. Lin and Max were about the same height, and both were now face to face. The tension was rising in the atmosphere. Max's eyes started glowing blue, as a sign of inducing fear in the opponent. But Lin wouldn't back down. He just straightened his back staring directly into Max's soul. Both men now face to face, were pretty much ready to fight each other.
Max: I don't care what kind of an asshole you are, but showing it on a child is shameless behaviour punk...
That was the best line Max could think of to be imposing to Lin. How ever Lin retorted back.
Lin: You wanna go at it huh....punk?
Just as they were about to clash, they heard a small voice. The voice of a woman who everyone were familiar with.
Melissa: Lin....
Lin turned to look at her, and what he saw was the red haired girl smiling at him, her eyelids closed. Max wondered what this was about. But her expression turned to anger and she immediately threw a punch to him knocking him unconscious, to the surprise of Max and Chuck.
Melissa: Now that should do it....ya okay kid?
Melissa asked that while dusting off her hands in a sense of accomplishment. Max was bewildered that she actually knocked him out. She turned towards the both of them and smiled again, while at her feet was the unconscious Lin.
