In the bedroom, Hades Quinn, the man expected to be paralyzed from the neck down was sitting up right. His personal doctor was examining his legs, pinching them as their owner flinched.
"Feeling has been restored, you will be able to walk in a month at least. You can go around in a wheelchair meanwhile or use a walking cane."
"Got it." Hades responded.
"Congratulations on your wedding by the way." The doctor said as she got on his feet.
"There was no wedding." Hades replied gruffly as his personal assistant Owen Jones helped him lay back down.
"Wedding or not, it is good that you are married. Now your wife with soft hands can give you a sponge birth instead of poor Owen here." The doctor chuckled.
Hades glared at the doctor.
"Too soon?" Doctor Friedman raised his eyebrows.
Hades did not respond. Doctor Friedman guessed it was too soon, and he left.
Owen shut the door and then sat beside the bed on a small chair. He squeezed a small bath towel, preparing to wipe Hades's body.
"Has she done anything that warrants my attention?" Hades asked Owen. The she in question was his wife, Sunshine Raine.
"No. She did beat up Moon Raine when she found her searching through her bedroom. And she is in the garage right now fixing some old cars." Owen answered neatly in a British-ish accent.
"She must be letting me know that she needs a car. Send her two new cars. You don't need to worry about the budget. All I can do is throw money at her as compensation for the unfairness she suffered." Hades closed his eyes, tired as if he had just completed a ten-kilometer run on a treadmill. He thought that the two sisters had fought over the unfair marriages, especially Sunshine that was forced to separate from her boyfriend. "Get her account details too, as the mistress of Quinn manor, she should have money."
He fell asleep, wondering how much money and what else he could give her as compensation.
******
Breakfast at the Quinn manor was an extravagant affair. Because they were wealthy, they only ate the best and they had varieties. Some of the things they ate had to be flown in daily. Which was not a problem as the family owned five helicopters, and their property was large enough to house them.
The vast wealth of the Quinn family had been made by Hades Quinn. He started out as a co-owner of a candy and food company with his mentor. Then, on his own, Hades branched out into real estate, e-commerce, media, oil and gas, telecommunications.
From a small household that living paycheck to paycheck, the Quinn's turned into multi billionaires and with the change in status came the change in attitude among some relatives that became proud and arrogant.
Those relatives were the ones that were most opinionated about the marriage between Sunshine and Hades.
"It is 8:05 and she is not here yet. For the new mistress of the house, she sure is lacking in etiquette." Brigitte Quinn sneered.
Fifi Quinn let out a soft sneer. "What mistress? I saw her bolt out of the house last night instead of caring for her ill husband. She spent the night in the servants' quarters. Clearly, this marriage is a joke to her." She aggressively put down a glass of wine.
Fifi Quinn was Hades's aunt. She felt disturbed because she was against her brother, Hades's father and his wife's move to have Hades her marry a servant girl.
She cared less if the fool Cassius did it but for Hades it was different. There were many girls from good families that could jump at the opportunity to be his wife even in his current condition.
But her brother and his wife had insisted that Sunshine was such a good hearted and hard-working girl that would care for her paralyzed husband without prejudice. Well...they were wrong. She abandoned her husband the first chance she got.
Her other worry was their family's reputation, the people in the city of Babel gossiped about everything and everyone, not just them_ everyone in the country was going to laugh at the great Quinn name. Their reputation was never to recover when the gossips find out that Hades married a maid.
"She needs time to accept this." Larry Quinn, Hades's cousin spoke on Sunshine's behalf.
"She is the mistress of Quinn manor, wed to a billionaire. What is there to accept or deny?" Lisha Quinn flipped her hair back arrogantly. "Instead of mopping the floors, she gets to step on them in expensive pumps that cost as much as her annual salary."
More voices were raised and then lowered as Moon walked into the dining room, dragging Cassius with her. Her parents, the Raine's followed behind.
Fifi snorted. She looked rather miffed to see them, and she thought they lacked the qualifications to sit at the same table as them.
"Here comes the thief." Warren Quin muttered.
His daughter, twelve-year-old Carola snickered.
Then, Sunshine entered the dining room. She walked in very under dressed as compared to everyone else. The blue shirt which was wearing had a grease stain. She was still wearing the tool belt around her waist and her boots were two years out of fashion.
A very big crime, in Lisha's opinion.
To everyone's shock, Sunshine walked straight to the seat where Hades normally sat, and she parked her ass down on it comfortably.
"Fudge!" Someone whispered.
"What are you doing?" Fifi screamed.
Sunshine picked up a fork and pointed it at the food. Her eyes seemed to say, "What do you think I am doing? Of course I am here to eat."
"That is not where you sit." Fifi told her.
"Sister Suni, you can come and sit next to us." Moon said in coquettish voice, batting her eyes and smiling like she was the most beautiful and nicest angel on earth.
Sunshine glared at Moon, stabbed the fork into a grape as if she was stabbing Moon's head, and she sent the grape to her mouth. Ignoring all the curious eyes on her, she helped herself a large serving of bread, eggs, bacon and all the cloud berry creme pastries that had been flown in.
"She is crazy." Dido Quinn a seven-year-old whispered to Earl Quinn, Hades's seven-year-old son.
The little boy blinked. The crazy person was his new stepmother, and he did not know how to handle the situation.
"Listen up you two." Fifi's eyes moved back and forth between the two young Raine women. "My brother married you into our family because we need more heirs to further the Quinn name....."
Moon raised her hand and interrupted. "I am already working on that Aunt Fifi." Her face lit up as if she wanted to be praised.
However, Fifi's fingers folded to form a fist. "The heir that you will give us will not have the Quinn blood running through his veins, so your news barely excites me." She spoke through pursed lips.
Moon's smile crumbled, and she gritted her teeth.
Richard and Rori, Hades's parents did not appreciate Fifi's rude remarks.
Rori Quinn's sharp disapproving gaze found her sister-in law. "Fifi! How dare you say that my grandson is not a Quinn! My son adopted him the right way and therefore he is a Quinn." Her lips trembled as she spoke.
Clucking her tongue from disappointed, Fifi perked her hand dismissively. "I will never accept him; you cannot force me to. Even if Hades wanted to adopt a child couldn't he find someone normal? Did it have to be an idiot that can barely speak and drools at the dining table! Look at him, even a dog drools less than he does." Her eyes widened, displaying the hatred she felt on the matter.
She did not know why Moon had brought Cassius over. Was she trying to disgust everyone?
